I used your new spreadsheet and realized my original post for the week was calculated incorrectly, when I put "calm" in for the wind it gave me a multiplier of 4 and when I put zero in it took all my points away. So since I am not as savvy with excel formulas, I just took out the multiplier on Sunday and got a new point total. And changed my Tuesday run to an 8 multiplier since it was 0 degrees out. (Also I dont think I have to worry about this one but fyi...if I pretended it was warm here and put in a temp 36 or higher it also takes away your points.) Sorry I dont know how to put a spreadsheet with the corrections together but hoping you know how to do that bcuz I do like the spreadsheet.  Thanks.

Oh, that's just great!  Those of us who thought we were hard core are going to get kicked around all winter by people in Alaska!  Great.  We can't complain to the Cajuns about the heat in the summer and now we can't complain to the Alaskans about the cold in the winter.  And Mesteren (Iceland) hasn't even thrown his 2 cents in yet.

Sorry everyone, I'm no pro, just enjoy farting around with numbers and these formulas.  It is amazing how something simple like this can suddenly get complex.  Anyway, I think I figured out my errors and I've attached a new spreadsheet that corrects the problems in the previous post.  version 3.0, if you will...

Wind must be a number, fyi.  Calm, put in 0.

I will be out of town the next few days and have little if any web access, so the spreadsheet for week one will more likely be posted Tuesday this week.  I am also starting a thread for week two postings.  Hope you had a sucky weekend!!

Im in on this. Put me down for 220 pts for my ride today.

Edit:  Oh I guess I should put a break down for this on here:

 110 min x ( 0 pt for temp + 1 pt for winds (9mph) + 0 pts for precip + 1 pt for bike sub 40 deg) =

110 x 2 = 220 pts of suckerage!

Great Challenge for the Quality Cold!!!!!!!!!

I need things like this to keep the body going through the next 19 weeks. It will be tough focusing at times, but training will have 2 goals - 1> IM CA 70.3 March 31 2007 and 2> this little challenge. I think it will be fun since I have origianally planned on doing ALL running/Walking outside and trying to bike at least once a week outside through the winter. So far so good, I spent 3 days outside this week and have a few more planned for the upcoming week:

WEEK 1:
Day Time B/R Temp Wind Wet Bike Points
Sun 57 B .5 1 1 125
37 R .5 1 55.5
Thurs 20 R .5 1 30
Sat 43 B .5 1 1 107.5

Total 318

Let's have a good ole time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Okay, so since the upper limit is now 50,  I DID get some points for my ride yesterday:

45 Degrees / 8 mph winds / 94 mins

94 x (1+1) =  188,  right?

This is fun, but maybe we need a web app to caculate points!!

I forgot about my other ride this week so here's my weekly total:

11/18: 45 Degrees / 8 mph winds / 94 mins = 94 x (1+1) = 188

11/16:  45 / no wind / 65 mins = 65

Total  = 253

Here is my list for last week.  Looks like it is warming up this week. Still makes for some crummy weather but not quite as sucky, which actually is a good thing!

does walking count? or just running & biking? sparco, double check my math?

nov. 16th: running 69 mins, 31, light winds = 103.5
nov 17th: walking, 55 mins. 34 = 27.5
nov 18th: biking 25 mins, 32 = 37.5
nov 18th: running 102 mins. 32 + light winds = 153
nov. 19th: biking 190 mins. <30 @ first hour, 30+ last 2 = 120 + 195 = 315

total so far = 636.5

am i doing this right????

Hee hee!  This cracks me up!  This is what its all about.  I love it.  I'm always been disappointed when I go outside to run and its not raining or snowing, now I have a reason for it!  I can't believe it's been balmy (30's) and dry since we started this challenge!  Grrrrrrr, bring on the snow!!!!

Heck yeah.  The 10 day forcast shows "low point" weather for the next 8 days.  After that it's going to be 8 degrees/snowing, time to rack up the points.
