The Mac - 2007-02-07 1:03 PM Why go to all the trouble of doing something over-the-top.  The divorce rate stands at 50%.  Play the odds and do something meaningless since your marriage has a 50/50 shot at being equally meaningless.
Probably even less than 50% if you go into it with that attitude....

A guy proposed at the end of IMWA this year - ended up broadcast nationally in the package the other weekend. The couple were bot hracing - he finished and waited for her tocross the line then proposed, over the mike infront of everyone.

Her comment after just finishing an ironman? Something along the lines of how hard he made her work for it!

I saw it happen to,  we were wondering what he was waiting for on the finish line and then she crossed the line!  It was a perfect proposal!

Proposed on January 6th, 2001, we were in Playa del Carmen, Mexico for my friends wedding. The day before was the wedding and on the 6th we all headed out to Mayan ruins and ended up at COBA.

Slight hi-jack - I've visited Coba. That was the greatest place we visited while in the Yucatan!

Back on topic:

I switched it up and actually proposed to my husband... midnight, Jan 1, 2005 on the shore of the lake while we were staying at the house I grew up in. A year and 3 months later, we got married on the back porch. It was awesome. The neighbors across the lake put on a big fireworks show for us.

My story is kind of funny...

We went to a concert and then headed over to campus to go to a coffee shop. Except that it was a Tuesday in the summer so they were all closed.  He keeps driving around and finally I get annoyed and tell him to go home.  He's like, "no, why don't we go walk around on Bascom Hill".  For those of you unfamiliar with the University of Wisconsin, it's a big hill that overlooks a street running up to the Capital.  If you're on the top, you can look down the street lit up to the Capital Building.  Pretty cool.  Anyway, we get up there and park and get out to walk over to the building and he says he locked his keys in the car and has to get them.  At this point I'm pissed so I stalk away.  Well, he gets back and proposes.  Turns out the ring was in the car.  No, I wasn't mad anymore.  All his being stupid all night finally made sense.

OK, my non-cynical response is:  when I proposed to my now ex-wife, I took her to a very fancy restaurant on Palm Beach.  The tables had long white table cloths.  At some point during the dinner (between courses I think) I took the ring outta my pocket and felt for her hand under the table.  I then slipped the ring on her finger.  When she pulled her hand out from under the table and table cloth, voila!  Not very original and not very dramatic, but it seemed to fit the personality of our relationship at the time.

I gotta say, I was glad it was over with cuz I had been sweatin over the "how do I do this" thing for weeks.  In fairness to the "I'm getting married soon" crowd, to this day the two best days of my life were the birth of my son, and my wedding day.  Both were stressful as he!!, but man they were both so awesome to experience.  Hopefully everyone gets a chance to have the same.

Derreck proposed via email.  It was very poetic and formal.

Cesar proposed one morning in bed - no x-rated stuff happening at the time - I thought he was joking but said yes. that afternoon we went and picked out a ring - again i thought he was joking until he paid for it. almost 2 years later we got married. Not very romantic.

I rented a room in this castle in France, and proposed to her in the garden in the moonlight. (on the anniversary of the day we met)
