Expert 1022 | Subject: RE: November "Your Choice" Team FIVE rkreuser - 2007-11-01 11:41 AM Hey, welcome, Dave and Dan. It's gonna be a fantastic month... And workout #1 for the month is done - few miles at 8:30 pace at lunchtime. And as an added bonus, I got 60 suckage points (I'm entered in the winter suckage challenge, too, where you get points for s/b/r outside in crappy weather) for a run in 42 degree temps with a 15mph wind. Sounds like a nice fall midwestern day to me When I was living in Illinois, I would stop biking when it hit freezing. |

Do we get bonus points in the challenge for being nuts during the off season? Five for Fighting sounds good to me, now that I know what it refers to. I feel old. Hah! We'll show them that "old" doesn't mean "worn out"!!! Bring on those kids, the old farts will learn 'em a lesson or two!
I'm 26, that's a youngin', right? I look forward to learning a lesson or two from all the experienced/knowledgeable Five for Fighting members! Edited by naners 2007-11-01 1:18 PM |

Hopefully, we'll be official soon. Team, I've just looked through our logs...everyone is rocking it! There are very few yellow squares. Way to start off the challenge! Oh yea, all you people who are working out in cold weather are my heroes. I complain when it drops to the high 60's! |

Of course, that comes after the regular workout is done. You haven't lived until you've experienced the joys of Cabernet Sauvignon in your camelback. Party on!!

I look forward to learning a lesson or two from all the experienced/knowledgeable Five for Fighting members! Lesson 1: Don't get in a fight with a Cadillac a month and a half before you are supposed to graduate from college. Lesson 1a: Doing sprints down a busy road at rush hour, EVEN if you have been doing it for 4 solid years without an incident, is a REALLY bad idea. Lesson 2: You can still recover after 15 years of couch surfing. Lesson 3: Never repack your own wheel bearings the night before a race, especially if you haven't repacked your wheel bearings in 5 years. Nothing says oops like trying to race on a wheel that's one bearing short. Lesson 4: When creating a triathlon relay team, check if the rest of the team you are setting up are/were professional or college level athletes. If so... back away... quickly. Lesson 5: Don't pay for 10 years of swim lessons for your kids. They simply won't appreciate that 10 years of dedicated year round training means that they have a slight edge when doing athletic competitions against someone who has been couch surfing for 15 years. Lesson 6: Do your first triathlon after 15 year of couch surfing in secret. Your kids, for whom you have sacrificed 10 years of your life taking them to swim practice at 5 AM, will never let you live down the fact that you couldn't make it to the first bouy. Lesson 7: Don't remind highly trained kids that through sheer luck, you beat them in a half marathon. You will only be perceived as a bad winner. |

Each week, your Team Captain will fill out the spreadsheet, marking your progress towards your GOALS. The "week" will run Saturday to Sunday. (This will allow you to cram in all those weekend sessions!) I will start a thread called "Nov Challenge Team Leaders Thread." Please post your team's results there by Monday evening each week. (Sunday is fine, if you have them ready. But I figured I'd give you the extra day, in case you need to To attach a file to a post: While writing a post, look at the bottom of the box. You'll see options to include a signature and enable emoticons. Directly below that is "Attach a file after posting." Check that box. You will then be able to attach your spreadsheet to your post. If you have questions, or need better instructions about this, feel free to ask. (Contact me via the original November Challenge thread, at the very top of the screen. I won't be checking your thread often, so if you ask me here, I may not see it.... Or, you can always PM me. That'll work, too.) And most of all..... GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE! Expert 929 Hawaii | Subject: RE: 5 for Fighting Your Team Captain is naners. Hi team, For what it’s worth, I’m a co-captain. Rkreuser is the other captain. I am now starting a max and bhoover “pearls of wisdom for the youngins” document. So far, I’m very intrigued by this “couch surfing technique”, Cab. Sav. in camelbacks (that’s truly inspired), repacking wheel bearings, and fighting with Cadillacs. I have so much to learn! |

Subject: RE: 5 for Fighting Sorry I am a little late to the thread... I have been sick for the last two days so haven't had my BT time lately... My name is Robyn... I am 25 years old and live in Tulsa, OK. I just finished up my second season of tri training and I am now starting to train for the marathon season. I am coming off of some hip flexor injuries so my goals are a bit conservative but they are enough to get me moving again. 75 miles running 200 miles biking (or 11 hours - trainer/spin class) 20, 000 yards swimming Best of luck to everyone on their training goals! OH yeah, one more thing about me is that I think I am on Ricks not-so-nice list. |

But the original came from a hockey term for a 5 minute penalty assessed for starting an altercation. Usually you'll hear the announcer say things like, "He's got a two minute penalty for cross checking (or tripping, boarding, slashing, etc), plus five for fighting." Sounds like a cool name to me!
