Cat, in my house always plan too much food. We always have lots and lots of leftovers. Even when I think I have cut down on the amount of food, once I put it out I realize that I overplanned once again.

Mornin' Kendra! Mornin' Dee

Hmm, from all the posting Kendra, I'm guessing that you must have gotten all those books shelved

Seems that everyone's getting sick today, 1st Beth - now my boss called in.

Hope that you get feelin' better soon, Beth.

Yup, the gang worked hard on Sat & Sun, so we are in pretty good shape.

Congrats to Hector!  Yeah baby!!!

OK, so if I post my legs here like Beth did, you all can blame it on her!

BTW...I'm in for Ironman Arizona, November 2008!  Wooo Hoooo!

Yeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaawwwwww!!!  Congrats Max.  IRONMAX.  I'll be finnin' to join you there maybe in a few years.

Boy, Monday after Thanksgiving.  Rough.  Morning full of meetings.  Good to get closure on one of my projects.  I think the whole team realized that it didn't make sense (too much capital investment to get payback).  Project may die, so that's a good thing (more time on Twisnibbins ).

Let's see...

1.  BIG congrats to Hector.  Welcome TRIATHLETE!!!  Looking forward to the race report.
2.  THAAAAAAAANK YOUUUUUUUUU, Beth!

Uh, I'm going to try ease into this thing we call work.  I'll be checking in and out of Twisnibbins as I shake off being dazed and confused.

Well, this is our last week, I'm afraid I'm not going to make my weightloss goal.  But the run is surely coming to an end.  Still trying to build up the guts to get in the pool.

Better get to work... Coaches meetings are this week and gotta finished getting referees hired.

Later Gang!

Thanks Heather :-)

You'll get in that pool, I just know it

Have a great day!

Okay, so today's the day.  I'm going to get in the pool this afternoon.  LeGrand is going to get in with me, I told her that she can't let me back out.

1st, Hector, congrats.

2nd... I think I peaked too early for the marathon. My times the past week and a half have sucked, I'm struggling out there to even run under 10:00. It is so going to suck if I end up running a five hour marathon because I crashed and burned...

You may still be alright. Marathon is on Sunday, right? This should be primarily a rest week, so you will come back strong on Sunday. Don't dismay.

Hey how's everyone!

Nice long weekend indeed, I kicked the BT habit until now! Hector, great job on the tri, way to go. I didn't read all the notes but I hope everyone had a good weekend & holiday (if applicable).

Here' a pix of my son setting his 5k PR at the turkey trot with a 34:09, he came in 2nd place in the 10 & under AG! He already said he wants to do a 30 minutes for the next 5k run in Jan of Feb. So I have to become a coach now, not just Dad! BTW, his goal for this one was 11 min miles and we nailed it doing 5 min running and 1:30 walks.

Now I've really become lard over the weekend and need to get my cardio going again. I have rock hard abs but can't see 'em Embarassed !

Hi Nibbins

I'll be in and out today - in between naps and reruns.  (so probably more out than in)

I woke up at about 4 am this morning with horrible pain in my ear - darn it, I got an ear infection :-(

went to the doc, got anti- biotics and drops, going to take it easy today

Oh nooooo... poor Beth .  I'm sorry to hear.

I had an ear infection 2 years ago (Exhibit C was a newborn) and I swear it is absolutely the worst pain I've ever experienced... and I have a high pain tolerance.

Hope you feel better fast.  The drops should help a lot and the anti-biotics will work quickly.

Scott.  NO, NO, NO!  You've had considerably less volume the last 2 weeks and correspondingly your times will show that, but DON'T let that trick you into thinking you're not prepped!  You've done your miles DILIGENTLY!  Do not let that go to waste during taper.  It's all about body recovery and building up your glycogen stores (read: energy you're going to need during hour 3).

I know it's tough psychologically, but HANG IN THERE!  It's about rest and glycogen stores.  Take the time to read up on week prior nutrition.  I've usually done high protein the first part of the week before, and slowly gone to ALL carbs (and low fat) to right before the race.

Hang in there.  You can do it.  It'll be mental endurance from here.  Your body's ready.  Don't screw it up.

O.K. Scott, one more thing.  You are going to be VERY tempted to go out hard the 1st few miles.  My suggestion: DO NOT!  Set a time goal, and follow that pace.  For example, if you're shooting for a 4 hour finish, RUN THE CORRESPONDING PACE (in this case 9:09 min/mi) and do not deviate.  Otherwise, if you go out hard at the start, you may end up running out of glycogen reserves (hitting the wall) at anywhere from mile 18 to 24, and speaking from experience, IT SUCKS!

Suggestion 2:  You should have figured out a nutrition plan based on your training runs.  If you hydrated every mile with Gatorade/Accelerade or fueled up with Gu/Sports Beans every 20 min during your training runs, and it worked for you, DO THE SAME during the race.  If you are a run a mile, walk a minute runner, do the same during the race.

Yes I'm nagging.  Do it.  It'll keep you relatively sane until the race.

Heh.  The 'Nag' is back.  Here's what happens when you run just 20 seconds faster than target pace:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=46367

I could've sub-4ed this one, but I definitely ran faster than I should have at the start:

Averaged 8:48s for the first 6.2
Averaged 8:52s for the first half
Averaged 9:00s up to mile 20
HIT THE WALL
Averaged 10:48s for the last 6.2

Ya see a pattern here?  Pace.  [/nag over]

Hello & Happy Monday, Nibs!

THIS IS MY 1000TH POST!

I am back safely in Atlanta & have approximately 14 days to go - not counting the hours yet - but I'm getting there...

Since I promised you (last night) a post of substance for my 1000th, here goes. (I'm not promising the substance is good, but it's more than post-padding.)

I would like to extol the virtue of California rolls. I'm a midwestern girl and haven't quite come over to the darkside where I can eat raw fish, I mean heck - you can't really get "fresh" fish there. When we moved east, I started eating cooked fresh shellfish (mmmm MD blue crabs) but I still haven't gotten to a place where I feel ok about eating raw fish. Thus, the beauty of California rolls in my life. Where else am I going to put my wasabi?

OK, I think that's enough substance for today. Back to brainless posting.

Kristen
