charge4brendan - 2007-12-01 9:14 PM Hi team! My name is Dave and I live out in Japan (Land of the Rising Sun). I'm really looking forward to this challenge as I could use the water work. It'll be interesting to see how it all pans out. Went for a goal of 30,000 meters. Since I'm spending the entire month of December (leave on Tuesday) in Singapore for work, all my swimming will have to be done at the hotel pool. I'm counting on it remaining open and accessible. I look forward to interacting with you all and trying to figure out exactly what's so terrifying about a turkey...
Hi Dave.  I'm in Costa Rica right now, also using a very small pool to swim.  I've got the ocean, but I gotta tell you, I just don't get thrilled swimming in the ocean.  My son in law is in Singapore for a few years working for Dell.  I've heard the water there is quite scary.  Best to dizzy yourself with the flipturns in the hotel pool.

Donto - 2007-12-03 10:52 AM

Hi everyone,

Donto here, (lead Elf).  I need to talk with Cat about our team name!

I'm catching up from the weekend so please bear with me on any delay regarding the team.

I pledged a goal of 15k yards, but I decided to forget all knowledge and wisdom I've obtained over the 42 years of my life and played flag football on Sunday.  Pulled my hamstring pretty good (grade 2 tear) and based on what I've read on rehab, I shouldn't attempt to swim for at least a week, found another source that said no swimming for up to 3 weeks.  I guess it'll all come down to how well I heal. So far now I'm going to change my swim goal to 10,000 for now and take the next 7-10 days off to heal.

I hope everyone is off to a good start, I was as I got in 1,000 on Sat...

Sorry about the hamstring Donto.  Hope you heal fast.  I'm with you on the team name.  Terrifying Turkeys, what'd we do to tick off Cat?

It could have been worse. She might have named you the TERRIFIED Turkeys.

Sorry to hear about your hamstring. Ouch!

BTW, I have my team's spreadsheet up on Google now. (Create account. Upload spreadsheet. Publish. Allow everyone access. Done!)

I did a 1/2 IM in Singapore and can vouch for their water. Very murky. As for the pool, I'll just have the make the best of it!

Dave, I "lived" in Singapore in 1994 for 4 weeks there, 3 weeks home, 4 weeks there.  Between 1991 and 1999 I was there 2-3 times a year for a week or two.  I miss the place and wish I could visit again.  Do the best you can for the swimming and safe travels.

Hi team,

Late member checking in. Donto, sorry about the hamstring. Feel better soon.

I am joining the vote to lose the Turkey name. Nutcracker is more in line with a December challenge. (Charge4B....I didn't know why I was called out as a turkey in my blog. Now I get it. Should have checked the forum before reading....)

My goal is now 15K based on holiday commitments and anticipated pool closing but hope to best that number easily.

Gina

Good morning team mates! Hope everyone is swimming. I like Nutty nutcrackers also!

Donto: I picked up a challenge from Dexter (my brother) of the putrid puddings and need to up my challenge to 15000 yards. I have to do that in the first three weeks as I am out of town for Christmas week. I hope my pool is open during HanukkahSurprised, otherwise I will have to join the swim team and I can't keep up with them!

OK team, threw down another 2000 yds this AM...am hoping to get another 3K+ done prior to Sat., which'll put me at close to 50% for the challenge...despite having a laughable team name, hope everybody's getting their yards/hours/minutes logged...
