Good pick on the 135. 130 would give you some wiggle room. Yes you will be there this year. You should be training about the same pace as Gem & me as far as that goes.

New user 13 | Subject: RE: Saling4's Group - Open Hi Brian, I'd like to join your group, if I may. I'd like to join this group because it looks like people have a variety of goals and the general feel is that we all want to encourage one another in what we are doing. I also like that we have people from all over in this group! How great is the information age?? I have never run a triathlon - I used to sign up for 5 and 10 km runs, but have not been doing much of that lately. My swimming is ok, but I've signed up for a swim class to improve my stroke and endurance. In terms of biking, I did my last two vacations on bicycle. The first trip was 450km done over 5 days (we could have gone faster, but it rained for three days and we got tired of it and threw in the towel early). The second was 320km done over three and a half days. These trips may not be best for determining my biking time as I was carrying a lot of gear on my bike, but I've never raced on bicycle, so that's what I've got for now. For details about me, I work at a desk all day with a computer so I need regular exercise to offset the long hours sitting. I live in Toronto, Canada, which doesn't get too much snow and cold weather as far as Canadian cities go, but we get some and sometimes the weather can discourage me from getting out. I am currently looking to buy a pair of those shoe grips that clamp onto the soles and add picks to your shoes so you can walk/run on ice and snow without falling down. Otherwise, I'll only likely get out running during a thaw, until winter's done. I don't care much for running on a treadmill, but if you recommend it, I can give it a try. Here are the other details: Age: 29 (female) Height: 5'5 - 5'6 Weight: 135 lbs last time I checked (which was a few months ago) Best time running (in 1999) 9:53/mile I'm still looking around to sign up for races, so none officially on the horizon right yet. My big goal is to do a sprint triathlon in 2008; I might sign up for other races (like a 5km) for practice and training. That's it. Thanks for being a mentor - I think this is a great idea to have this forum. I look forward to being a part of this group! Cat |

These are set up to keep you from hurting yourself and work back into running. |

I'm pretty much stating from scratch right now, except for the 5K I slowly ran in December. Although I thought you lived in Spain; how are you going to swing coming to Vegas 2x in a year? Member 43 | Subject: RE: Saling4's Group - Open Here is my data: Height: 5'11'' (178 cm) Weight: 166 (75 Kg) Age: 46 Sex: Male I used to run in highschool, but did basically nothing for 22 years. Started jogging 2 years ago. In 2007 I did two sprint triathlons, and I love it. My goals for 2008 are: at least 2 sprints and one olympic. I started biking 1 1/2 years ago. That is my weakest sport. In terms of each sport: 1. To improve on the bike a lot (improve speed, improve endurance) 2. To improve somewhat on the swimming (would like to improve speed). Running can stay the way it is for the time being. I think your idea of consistent baby steps is the way to go. I have had knee and hip injuries, and I definitely do NOT want to be there again. Regular 85 Eastside Seattle WA | Subject: RE: Saling4's Group - Open Wow am I excited for this! I am a 36 y/o mother of 3. 8 y/o boy 6 y/o boy and 4 y/o girl. I will start with info about me and my backstory and then fill you in on the stats. I was very active in competitive sports in H.S. State 3 years in track. Lettered in Varsity Basketball 3 years. All region 2 years and multiple MVP awards at tournaments. I LOVED sports. I went to Brigham Young University and continued intramural sports didn't feel confident enough to try the sports there with over 30,000 students and a Div. I school I was intimidated to say the least. I did continue in the sports "arena" as I worked in the Sports Information office at the University during my Sophmore and Junior years. I entered the Sports Medicine program and graduated in 1997. I continued to work in the Physical Therapy clinic and also spent a summer as an athletic trainer for H.S. camps at Gonzaga University. Then our family started to take priority. I will skip to this June. Our family went to a reunion with our extended family and one of the activities most of us cousins chose was rockclimbing and repelling a 50 foot rock wall. I was so excited to do this and got to within one hand hold of the top and just couldn't make it. I was so disappointed. I knew it had to do with being 70 pounds overweight, but I had never let my weight stop me from doing ANYTHING!!! The next day I went for a hike with my "fit" cousins again and they wanted to run the trail. Again I didn't let my weight stop me. I ran (and walked) up to the falls. About an hour later I went back to the climbing wall and BEAT IT!!! I laid on the top of the platform and just cried. I felt so AWESOME!!! I then did a ropes course up in the tree tops and repelled down. When I got down my husbanc who had been filming all of this, took me in his arms and said "I don't know what that was but you have GOT to figure out how to do that again. You need to find somethinig that will make you feel like that more because I have never seen that determination in you before." Well about 3 weeks later I heard someone mention doing a sprint triathlon about 20 miles from our home. I thought why not? I just climbed a rock wall and I can do anything now. I went to the gym the next day and got a membership. I started training. I have tried to workout before but I HATE working out. But this was different I was TRAINING!!!! I had 8 weeks! yep in 8 weeks I went from the couch to the sprint tri. I had a 3 friends doing it with me (there 1st too) and 4 others who were veterans. We trained a little together maybe 3 weeks 2 times a week. It was fun, but I was in it for me no matter who was competing. In 8 weeks I lost 27 pounds and finished the tri in 1:50:07. 1/4 swim, 14 m bike and 3.5 run. It was brutal and I loved it. The triathon was in August and I have continued to train until December. I have lost another 5 pounds but am looking to follow a REAL program this time not just "winging it". My goals...April 20 mi Tulip Festival Bike May 30 mi. San Juan Island Bike race June Danskin sprint tri July Lake Chelan sprint tri Aug/Sept Sprint tri (possible Olympic not sure yet) Nov. Turkey Trot 10K I would like my weight to be 170lbs. I am in excellent health low BP, low cholesterol just need to lose weight. My stats: 36 y/o Female 5'10 212 BMI 30 (just had it checked today) % Body Fat 33 best mile 13:30 dont' know my best mph bike I can do 15 miles in 45 minutes...but that was 15 miles! don't know swim info I can get my best bike mile info Monday and I can get my splits from the race if you need them. Also I don't have a HR monitor yet but am planning on purchasing one in the next couple of weeks. Will let you know, until then I am using PFE. So there I am and I am ready to GO!!! Thanks tons Brian I am so excited to be in your group you are exactly what I need!! |

I've had real motivation issues over the last couple of months, due to getting sick, and difficulty connecting with my coach over here. I've now opted for a programme that has me out on my own a bit more. I'd really love to be part of a group of people who are working and staying in touch. Training can be a lonely business, even when you live in a town that is sports-mad. I'll wait for a response from you before I send you all my info! Thanks so much, Jacqui |

Member 130 Colorado Springs | Subject: RE: Saling4's Group - Open Hi - Can I join in? I'm 41, live in Colorado Springs, 2 kids (1.5 & 5), stay at home mom (right...) Lots of endurance sports background, marathons & ultras, but quite frankly I'm sick of all that long distance running. I enjoy the challenge of training up for something but it's hard to work around the kids sometimes. Gotten better at that now that the older one is in kindergarten - can get lots of gym time in, anyway. Strengths: Like to work out, strong legs, no injuries, supportive husband, good bike, pools available, lots of cute running skirts, like to bike, lots of endurance experience Weaknesses: Like to eat and sleep, 10 extra lbs of really extra fat (5'7", 155, lots of muscles - BMI isn't a good measurement for me), busy schedule, weak swimmer, not good at keeping a log, don't have a plan 2008 races: RnR marathon next weekend (baaaad training - I'll survive and my fallback plan is to find some fun people to hang out with for 26 miles of bands), SilverRush 50 MTB race, 24 Hours of Triathlon (team) labor day weekend, DipNDash (swim/run) training series this summer, 1 or 2 springs, not selected yet. I'd say my 'A' races are the 24 Hour team (4 ladies - figuring almost a 1/2 IM for each of us w/in 24 hours), and the MTB race (50 miles in the mountains - summer). I like to have fun when I race and push myself, but when things go bust I just like to finish. On bad days I've made friends with the back of the pack Accountability helps. I did my first tri's last year. A sprint (Tri for the Cure) and on an 8 hour relay team. My bike legs were always great, slow swim, mid pack runner usually, but getting slower. Hope to join your group! I'll check back in later - do you need more details? Kids are waking up |

Champion 5807 Henderson NV | Subject: RE: Saling4's Group - Open Helen, Sounds more like we can use you more than you can use me. What a monster... Your more than welcome to join this little tribe. I agree that BMI and a few other things that get used are not always the best. They just give us something to use until we have a better understanding of what is going on within us. One thing in my weight loss group that I stress is that weight itself is not always a good measure. If you replace 1 lb of fat with 1 lb of muscle you didn't lose weight, but you will look and feel better. I like to have them tell me how their clothes fit, if looser than you are doing better.
Again, Welcome aboard the train to insanity. |

Extreme Veteran 462 Auckland, NZ | Subject: RE: Saling4's Group - Closed for now. Okay, here are the details: I'm 35, female, live in Taupo, NZ, did my first triathlon, a mini-sprint, in September 2006 in England, where I was living at the time. I decided after completing the little tri that the Ironman was the natural next step! So, when I got back to NZ I joined up with Endurance Coach and got into the training. An ear infection led to a blocked eustacian tube in late August, and I have been struggling with that ever since. I am looking at having a grommet put in, but will have to see how that pans out when I see the specialist at the end of this month. This has impacted on my swimming severely. I am generally pretty motivated but struggle if things go wrong for a few days, like I have to miss training or I get an injury. I'm currently training for an off-road half marathon on 16 March. My training for that is going really well at the moment. I'm 5'7", about 175lb, could do with dropping some of that, but I'm fairly stocky, so will never get to be a skinny, svelte number, more's the pity! I'm Head of Maths at a secondary school and I'm blessed with really supportive colleagues and students who all cheer me on when they see me out running or biking. I also have a really supportive partner, David, who is good for encouragement when I need it from another source. He's an excellent road cyclist and mountainbiker, so I follow him around a bit! I'm looking forward to participating with this group; it's great to have people to keep in touch with and explain myself to if my training gets wobbly! Jac Edited by mathsgeek 2008-01-06 12:17 PM |
