Decent mtn bike race today.  Didn't cramp until I crossed the finish line.  Had a crappy start though.  Placed 9th out of 12 riders in my AG.  High dewpoint, 67, 90 degree race start at 9:00 AM.  Heat index of 96 right now.  No wind.  Brutal out there.  I tried www.FirstEndurance.com EFS drink for the race today.  I had to consume 48 oz. during an hour/45'ish race, and 24 oz. before the start of the race.  Still cramped (quads) as I crossed the finish line.  A few  bananas and Gatorade post finish allowed me to walk again.  I sweat like a stuck pig; I'm not meant to go anaerobic for almost 2 hours in the heat.

Sprint tri this coming weekend!  On road.   300 yard pool, 16.5 mi. road bike, 5k run.  Our 11 year old son is doing it with me.  Should be a blast.

Sitting here tracking Caius and Kathy G (#2471, another BTer).  Wow, what a mudfest!

I was just tracking those very same people!  It will be fun racing with your son.  My kids want to do what they call a 'trathlon' but there are no more in the area for kids till next summer.  We are going to make one for them when we are on holidays!

Go Caius and Kathy!

Great race Terry! Congratulations on getting to the finish before the cramps set in!!! Sounds like it was a hot and humid day for sure.

You must be excited to do a tri with your son. That's fantastic! My son was supposed to do a kids tri last weekend, but it was unfortunately cancelled due to the floods this year.

Pic from yesterday.  Trying not to kill myself on that jump.

I hope Caius and all of the other BTers are drying out today!

After a week away without real online access, I'm finally back.

Congrats on the race Caius - that took an incredible amount of guts and determination. I'm sure it will take the next week or so to recuperate, but that is an amazing feat that few people can say they've done.

Truly impressed.

Neil

Here's my race link from Sunday. Went fairly well, with only a couple of minor hiccups along the way.

Hi everyone! Thank for the messages of support!

Weather wise, it was a horrible day with rain beating down the entire time. Between the rain and the cold it was relentless and a true test of mental toughness. My finish time wasn't what I was hoping for but considering the circumstances I'll take it!

I will try to post a race report and pics as soon as I can but it may take me a day or so. I'll my best.

Thanks again everyone!!!

The Alps stages of the TDF inspired me to go search out some local hills. Found a particularly "nice" one. The first quarter of the hill I was thinking, gee what a great idea I had. The second quarter my thoughts were, gee those professional cyclists are incredible to be able to do this for hours at a time (I had only been on the incline about 30 seconds!). Three quarters of the way up I'm thinking, I didn't realize I was in this poor of shape!. The last bit of the climb I'm maxing out my heart rate trying to figure why this is presenting so much of a problem! Then as I crested the top I looked down and realized I was still in the big chain ring I got a nice chuckle and a great workout out of the deal...

Make it a fantastic day everyone!!!!

P.S. Great avatar Neil!

Timmeh - happy to say I have not had that problem before, nor would I want to. I have however seen others do it, and can imagine that your face was as priceless as theirs when they figured it all out.

Thanks for the avatar comments from you and Tracy - I've been meaning to add one for a while, but to this point didn't have one that I was happy with.

Caius - those are some awesome photos. The swim pics really give you an idea of just how crazy it must have been in the water.

I can't believe how much rain was coming down on you guys for the race. I think the two pics that really sum it up are the one of you running in the rain, and then running into the finish line. Quite the contrast.

Once again - Congrats.

Caius!  Dude!  For some reason, I thought you had done several full Ironman competions in the past.  WOW!  Tough conditions for your first one!  Way to go!  Was tracking you online later in the afternoon (after mtn bike race).  The pics were great!

Great job in that horrible weather!!!!!
