I'm in the car anywhere from 2:45 to 3 hours a day. Well, it is also now taking a toll in another not so pleasant way. I'm starting to have what I think is sciatica pain on my right side. The spot where the thigh meets the a$$. Not good. I looked up some stretches and have started doing those, but am going to have to figure out how I'm going to deal with this. I have some ideas but need to talk to my boss. Not good! It could be sciatica, or you could be having piriformis issues. If your piriformis is in spasm it can cause pain like that, plus if it is in spasm it can also pinch the sciatic nerve. Talk to your boss! Are you thinking of seeing if you can work from home some? Good point about the piriformis. I'm going to try to get to my massage therapist early next week and have her work on it. I really need to be in the office and visible for the next few months (when I'm not traveling.) We are very close to getting our product approved and I'm leading all the launch preparations. I'd like to wfh on Fridays but thought I'd stay at a hotel 1 or 2 nights a week. My operating budget can cover it. I'd have to pay the cat sitter, but that is still less than the gas money I'd save. Basically I'd stay over Tuesday and/or Wednesday nights. Work late, then leave early on Thursdays and wfh on Friday. There is a nice suite hotel near the office where we have a good rate. It is right next to a very nice gym/aquatic center, so I could get my workouts back on track those days. More nights away from home isn't my idea of improved quality of life but neither is a burning butt. Sounds like you have a good plan if you can make it work. Get a note from the Dr. that says you need to cut your commute down to about 15 minutes each way. That might help with getting the hotel approval. |

MotoQueen 13195 | Subject: RE: Ghoulies Are Peachy in May! Did a killer workout for me this morning. 45 minutes on the bike, 30 minutes swimming and 35 minutes of strength with the trainer. He makes me work hard. I know, nothing like what Neal and Melissa do. Then took hubby's car in to get automatic locks installed. This is a surprise for fathers day, but got it done early. Going to see how long it takes him to notice. LOL He thinks I needed his car to haul pine bark around today because I didn't want to get my car dirty. He rolled his eyes at me for that, and I just batted my eyes back at him. And no, I didnt' get any pinebark today. Edited by kns57 2011-05-20 1:45 PM |

Champion 16743 Somewhere I can be nekidd | Subject: RE: Ghoulies Are Peachy in May! Good afternoon Ghoulies! Things seldom go as planned in my life, just so you know. Yesterday after field day I went and got groceries and my husband mowed the yard. We wanted to get those 2 things done because we wanted to go watch nieces and nephews play baseball last night, and we thought we'd be crazy busy with soccer today. No soccer today. The fields are swamps from the 5 inches of rain we had last week and they couldn't get them mowed. It has been awhile since we had a Saturday with nothing to do AND it wasn't raining. I ended up going about an hour south to Frederick, MD to a Walk and Wag thing at a park. I took Milo. HE WAS AWESOME! He had a lot of people up in his face and petting him, and he was GREAT! He met a lot of other dogs and other than doing some sniffing he was very non-reactive. Then we came home and napped. In a little while the kids and I are going to go check out the water levels and see how it looks for canoeing tomorrow. Have a slam dunk day everone! |

Champion 16743 Somewhere I can be nekidd | Subject: RE: Ghoulies Are Peachy in May! Good morning Ghoulies! We had a good time on the water yesterday. I was in a kayak, then there were 20 people in 6 canoes. Half of those people were kids. There were a few times when the canoes tipped over and people ended up in the water. My husband was able to keep theirs upright, despite having 3 kids in there with him who would paddle against where he wanted to go. Everyone had fun though. FYI - kayaking upstream is quite the workout. A few times I had to go back upstream to help people who had tipped, or to check on stragglers. Once I went after a shoe that got lost when someone tipped. We may go again in 2 weeks. I felt good all day in the water, but when we got home I sat down, and then couldn't stand back up. My back is killing me today so I'm at home, in bed, on the heating pad. I'm doped up right now, so I'll check back in later. |

stacieb 150 what? km or miles? My take is probably not to do it or be resigned to the fact that you will prob need to use the SAG wagon and not finish the entire thing. 150km is long...I pretty much did that yesterday and it hurts and I've been building my bike for months...150miles is an entire other game. Doing something for 6+ hrs isn't a good plan if you haven't trained adequately, IMO. There has recently been a lot of controversy over this issue relating to IMs (on BT and off) regarding people who arn't prepared "taking on the challenge". It relates to other endurance events as well. Training isn't merely to prepare your muscles and cardiovascular system relating to your heart...it metabolically changes the way your body responds to the physical stresses and how the body clears wastes. I think there is a big difference in going in not as prepared as you would like and completely not prepared. I went to a wilderness medicine day about a month ago and the doctor who was talking had recently been to a talk where the medical director for Kona was speaking. He said that every year there is still about one person who very nearly dies or dies from doing IM. I'm not saying this is due to being ill-prepared, but more as an example that undertaking an mega endurance event is not without risks and going into one ill-prepared isn't the way to make your chances of something bad happening better. Again, all my opinions and everyone is more than free to do what they want. |

MotoQueen 13195 | Subject: RE: Ghoulies Are Peachy in May! Okay weekend did not go as planned. Thu I was home sick with stomach bug. Hubby got it on Saturday, only way worse. I went to work the SAG stop by myself leaving him home by the bathroom. Got home and he was still not doing well. Sunday we did not do the 5K. He was doing better, but absolutely drained from the ordeal on Saturday. He wanted to do a motorcycle ride in the morning and I refused until he had eaten something. He agreed and I kept tabs on him all day. He finally commented in the early evening that we were smart to not go out on the motorcycles. Now he needs to regain all his energy for this weekend. Our motorcycle club is riding to Kentucky for a 3 day ride. Endurance is the word (and my butt will be sore.) |

Champion 16743 Somewhere I can be nekidd | Subject: RE: Ghoulies Are Peachy in May! Good afternoon. It was a quiet day in the village today. I forgot today was my daughter's field day at school. My husband was home so I rode in with him. There was a heavy mist this morning, but if they didn't do it today they wouldn't get it done. It did stop part way through the morning. I sat in the truck unless my daughter was doing an event, I just couldn't stand. They split the kids up into groups, we think they break them up based on size, then each group goes to a different event and they rotate. The kids pick which 2 of the 6 events they want to do beforehand. My daughter picked the 50 yard hurdles and the frisbee throw. She won the 50 yard hurdles for her group. GO KERI!!! I spent the rest of the afternoon doped up and lying on the heating pad. My son has a soccer game tonight. I'll be doped up for that, but I'll go watch him play. |

I've been awol, but thought I'd share my MS 150 good/bad. Because it's a two day ride, it's 75/75 per day or something close. I've done it fit and I've done it without training. If you can refrain from trying to ride fast and just enjoy the scenery it's doable unfit. Plenty of casual riders, at least at the ones I've done. Be prepared to have a VERY sore bum though. Day 2 is really bad if you don't have serious saddle time on the log. Personally, I wouldn't do it again EVER without the bum being seasoned. Not worth it. YMMV. Maybe you could call the organizer and see if they need any last minute volunteers. That way you could still be a part of what is a wonderful fundraiser for a nasty disease. |
