Hi All,

BT Name Turner100

Real Name: Rob D

Bib: 582

This is my first tri, let alone HIM, so let's start with finishing and then anything under 6 hours. But, I will tell you that fear has been a fantastic motivator for me, lol.

Woohoo.. so, looks like the forecast for Saturday has some rain.  Where do our bikes go after bike check-in?  Are they racked outdoors in transition (I assume)?

If they are outside in transition and it rains, are people cleaning their chains race morning?  Oh, the things I don't know.

And I saw the question about the bike aid stations.. these are standard bottles that we can throw in our cages?

Anybody have any information on spectator parking options assuming arrival well after the start of the race? The web site has nothing on parking options.

I am looking for some additional advice. Yesterday I cut my index finger and thumb. I received 6 stitches in my finger and the glued my thumb. The doctor said no swimming until the stitches come out and obviously the race is this Sunday and it will not be healed by then. I am wondering if anyone else has swam in Lake Michigan with stitches and if I decide not to compete is there anyway that I can get moved to another race? I am leaning toward competiting Sunday. I know there is a risk of infection but as you all know we all put a lot of time, effort, and money to compete in the Tri's. BY the way this is / was my first Tri ever. Torn with what to do. How clean is the water in the Racine area. Thanks for any input or support and good luck to all Sunday.

Hey Potters, that sucks! Since you're leaning towards racing (which I would too), could you wear a latex glove on your hand? I'm not sure if it's legal, but maybe they'll let you.  Or, maybe, just something on your index finger.  As far as I know, the water is really clean-but I'm not a doctor.

Either way, best of luck!

LOL Cyndi... It worked!  Can you see my racing top a few posts back?

I think I'm in Amy's wave (our bib numbers are certainly close).  Not sure if we will be close at all in any of the race but I'm hoping to be out of the water in 38:00ish (from my 7:38 start time)... pending waves & current etc... I know I can do the bike in well under 3hrs. but will hold back a to save my legs for my worst leg (the run) so I will be purposely over 3hrs... On my snail of a run/walk I'll do a run/walk ratio... probably giving me an average of 11:30/12:00per mi (pending heat) for the 13.1... when I run, I do around 9-9:30per mi but then I walk every 3-4 min so that pulls that down tot he 11-12... which will have me at around 2 1/2 hrs. or more.   All that being said, I'll be slower (I'm guessing, than most)....  I'm going for 6:30ish total... My local friends think I'll be quicker, I say not so much... My over all goal is to still be vertical and feeling well enough to want to celebrate at the end of the race Wink

they make finger cots, kinda look like mini condoms for fingers, one of those should work. They are common for cuts in the culinary field. maybe some food establishment might give you one.

I'll be the guy with a shaved head, goat tee, and the red Super Sport 1999 Schwinn bike.  My goal time is to finish.  I weighed 300 pounds January 2nd, and this morning I weighed 205.  My first exercise in 3 years was a one mile run in 14 minutes January 9th, so just finishing will be plenty for me.  Good luck everyone!!!

Turner100 - 2012-07-12 9:00 PM LOVE your tri top, Leslie!!!

Thanks!  I think it turned out pretty cool.  I wouldn't typically draw attention to myself on purpose but for some reason this seemed to be a good/fun idea... I don't look forward to my birthdays (I don't dread them either but they just kind of are another day)...Doing THIS 70.3 thou... WILL make it memorable to say the least so I figure I'd live it up!

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!

Quick question for those who have riden the bike course: how risky is using latex tubes for this race given the rough road conditions? (I posted this question in TT as well.)

I always use latex.  I used them on the course last year with no flats.  The course is pretty good once you get out of downtown Racine.  It's just bumpy from expansion cracks downtown.  They are tarred over and smooth so it's not like rough edge potholes.

i made the switch to latex a couple months ago in my race wheels, then i broke down and put them in my everyday wheels too... i dont think i'll ever go back... ive ridden some crappy roads on them with no problem.

meulen is right though.. there are only a hand full of "bad" spots on the course. you'll be fine on latex tubes.

I've been fighting a lot of illness' and injuries this year so I'm just approaching this as a 70.3 mile training day for IMWI.  I'll be happy with anything under 7 hours.

you'll do way better than 7 hours, let me know if you need a training partner to ride with leading up to IMWI. I live in waterford and know theres not a whole lot of people train with around here.
