There's a 20 week plan here on BT that I plan to use.  I used a 16 week plan for the Chicago Olympic this past summer, and it worked really well- I wasn't terribly fast, but was able to almost enjoy the race and not have a sufferfest.  If my math is correct, 20 weeks begins on 20 Feb '12!  In the mean time, I'm trying to keep a base with S/B/R mixing it up for ~5-6 hours a week total.  No sense over doing now with what lies ahead!

I am signed up.  This will be my first 70.3.  For training, I am getting coached and invested in a indoor bike trainer.  Need to get my running and biking mileage up during the winter months.  I have never done a half-marathon before, let alone doing one after biking 56 miles.

Great - this has the makings of an epic adventure!

I just finished the Jamaica triathlon, albeit slower thin I expected due to lots of factors, but mostly needing more training. Since then, I have spent the thanksgiving break swimming with my daughter.

My plan is to loosely work out through the new year, focusing on swimming and gearing up on the bike. Either way, I am extremely excited!

I'm planning on signing up soon to do it again (what an amazing experience last year), and I can't wait. I suffered from fairly severe IT Band Syndrome all of last season, but still managed to complete the race. I think I finally have it under control, and plan to mostly just get back into running shape while throwing in some hours on my trainer.  Maybe a couple of spinning classes, but mostly just trying to get a good base before the spring. The winter months is where you can really get better.  I'm just happy to start training again and doing everything I can to keep my IT Band healthy.  I can't wait to hear how everyone's training progresses.  Good luck everyone!

I will be signing up for this race in the next week or so. Last year Racine was my first HIM and I learned a lot. Things I need to work on are running in the heat, plus just more running in general. Also could have pushed it harder on the bike but with it being my first, I just wasn't sure.

I got in when it was 175 like a couple months back. I have BOMBED the run the last two years, this year is revenge. Hell, my full marathon mile avg. split at Kona this year was faster than my half split in Racine.

Just signed up tonight!  I'm really excited - this will be my first HIM and my "A" race of my first tri season.  I'm also planning on the Galena (IL) Sprint tri in May and the Capitol View Oly tri in Madison in June as my training races.  I've been riding my trainer loosely following Jorge's plan and also following the BarryP running plan for a few weeks.  I'm planning to start a more official training plan around the first of February.  Anyone else racing Galena or Capitol View?  I'm looking forward to following everyone's preparation for Racine - in the mean time, Happy Holidays!

I'm signed up!  194 days to get into race shape, but who's counting?  This will be my 2nd HIM, I did Racine last year as well. Hopefully it's not quite as hot as last year.  Newbieathlete it's a great swim course. Nice and spread out with the all the waves and the water last year (about 66 degrees if I remember correctly) felt great after you got going (assuming you wear a full wetsuit).  Luckily I remembered to book my hotel room earlier this year so I don't have to stay so far away.

Thinking of signing up as well. What can you tell us about the bike course? How were the roads? Pretty weather checked or not bad?

Thanks!

I'm in!

Trying to figure out if this is my first or second HIM...raced Poconos 70.3 in October but the swim was called off and bike shortened a bit d/t road flooding.  I followed the BT HIM 20 weeker for most of my training last time but was wondering what plan are folks looking into.  For those of you with a few 70.3 under your belt, what do you look for when selecting a plan?

Happy training to all

Bike course is pretty flat. There are some areas where the roads aren't too good. Mostly about a 1/4 mile section that's pretty bad. Last year there was a couple mile stretch of new asphalt that I heard was the worst part of the course the year before but was nice and smooth this year.  There are 1 or 2 places where you have to avoid the rumple strips before the stop signs. A few people weren't paying attention and blew tires out last year.

I plan to follow this plan too- I was thinking it started on Feb 19th, but I took another look and it should in fact begin on Feb 26th.
