Scott-good work on the weight loss. Keep it up!

Who has big plans for the weekend?

Jason: Bravo for getting through it! It's not easy, but you adjust, as you've done well.

I was struggling with fatigue for a couple days there. I took Thursday off, carb loaded and went to bed early. Today I was able to put out 8 pretty darn strong miles for 90F mid day. I don't think I was eating enough to support the training, and it's been mostly due to being so busy at work. I need to make sure I don't miss or shortcut my meals.

Tomorrow I'm doing my usual 16-18 mile bike ride and 3-5 mile run brick. Depends on what time my husband comes home from his long run. Sunday I have my super sprint. It'll be more of a social thing as there are a couple of my training friends doing their first full triathlons!! I'm excited for them.

Have a great Friday!

No big plans for me. Just catch up with the family and get in some training.

Looks like today may be a long day at work.

I need win to win the lottery so I can train full time (I say that a lot so you may hear this again).

I don't have a lot going on, just the regular long bike/long run, which aren't too long since I'm just in the beginning of my training plan. I'm hoping the rain stays away and I can enjoy the nice warm temperatures we're having. Saturday is supposed to be close to record-highs.

Nothing much for me either.  Will get some biking and running in.  Hopefully a swim tonight if I get done with work.  I work Sat and Sun so its not going to be an exciting weekend for me.  Good luck to all the racers!

I am a bit discouraged. Rough work week so squeezed workouts into less days. Now I am sick and am going to miss some of those. I am only in week 2 of my sprint plan so maybe it won't matter so much.

The workouts have really helped with the stress of a new job, travel, working on meeting a certification requirement for the new job etc etc etc.

Look forward to getting back to workouts.

On a brighter note I got a new swimsuit, cap, sports ladies thing and gym bag so I will be styling.

Mary-plenty of time before you race. Don't worry about missing a couple of days or a workout here and there. Hope you feel better.

Anybody out there use compression socks/sleeves? If so, what brand do you like and how often do you use them?

Swim done at lunch and another easy run tonight. Running legs are slowly returning....still a ways to go though.

I'd like to know about compression wear, also. I've wondered if they're actually useful, or if most people wear them for the placebo effect.

I have worn the compression socks intermittently. I wore them at Boston last year and I am not sure that they helped that much---but that race was such a disaster that I am not sure how much take away I got from that one experience. I have done probably a dozen runs with compression socks on. I really think they are a solution to a problem I don't have...... Not sure that they are really doing anything for me.

On the other hand I have found that I really like the compression socks at work when I am going to be on my feet all day. They make my legs less tired after 12+ hours of running around. However, I am always glad to get them off at the end of the day. I wear CEP socks and whatever that brand is that you can get at 1/2 off all the time through mass emailings (try to find them later). I see no real difference. I also have some Zoot and CEP compression tights. Again, I like them for recovery although I do occasionally run in them. The CEP tights are so hard to get on that I am almost always sweating by the time I get them on.

My 2 cents.... I wouldn't spend too much on compression. Others feel differently.

Don't know if any of that was helpful.

Horribly busy day today, but I had 25 minutes (including changing ad showering!) and did one of my favorite workouts, which I call 'broken 5K' which is basically a 5K done as 1mile, quick break, 6x1/4 mile with a short break between, 1/2 mile, break, all very hard, then easy for the final .1. Fun times (but injury potential is high -- you must be feeling frisky to do that workout!).

Compression: I have worn it for recovery and I think it helps. I use it mainly after very long sessions. IME, the tighter the better. I've found that the Zoot and Sugoi are both pretty good.

Holy crap! Last swim of the week done....13,450 yards and thats with cutting yesterday's workout short by 600 due to time. That's way out of my "comfort zone" when it comes to swimming. Although sometimes I think we have to push beyond that zone to improve. Hopefully next week will be a bit lighter.....if not I may not be able to shave or comb my hair

Was planning to swim last night, but couldn't find my jammers!   Not sure where they ended up (or if I left them at the pool)

Did a 30 min treadmill run this morning.    My calf is still acting up a bit -- OK to run, but quicker to get sore -- so avoiding longer / harder runs.  (Maybe for the best anyway!)

Nice bonus -- we got a cold snap around here, so outside temps are around 0F -- makes the pain cave nice and cold when I open the window!

Good weekend all

Scott.

Good start to the weekend so far. Got a nice and easy 2 hour bike ride in today ... after 20 miles it started to rain ... oh man does it sucks riding in the rain. We rode very slow and we were in an area where barely any cars are driving which was good.

After my daughter had her swim practice I jumped in the pool for some nice drills ... 2400 yards all together.

Getting a 90 minute massage tonight ... oh I can't wait ... it will be great ...

Another swim scheduled for tomorrow ... than I am done for the week ... starting over fresh on Monday ... :-)

Warm weather has returned for a couple of days! Got in a 26 mile ride today. Nice to be back on the bike after a month off.

Got back to the car and Strava decides to crap out on my phone. Ever since the last update it has been crashing. May push me to go ahead and get an Edge 500. Been wanting one for awhile and I've been getting by with my phone until now.

Randy, You're the king of the swim this week. I came in at 13,396. Now if I could only swim as fast as you then things would be great!

It looks like everyone is putting in some serious workouts this week. Happy Weekend!

Had a good 28ish mile ride with Jamie this morning.  Road was in pretty bad shape, so there was a lot of rumbling which wasn't so comfortable in aero on my forearms. Got a little bit of saddle soreness too. Didn't notice it until I took a shower and felt the sting! OUCH!

Also, some jerk in a pickup truck didn't even try to give us space as he passed us. Scared the crap out of me. After hearing everyone's heartbreaking stories of vehicle/bike accidents it really pissed me off that someone would just take the chance to be a jerk.

Thankfully, all was well in the end. 1hr run tomorrow and then starts week 3 of Ironman training!

Yeah, +1 about that guy in the truck. He scared the hell out of me! Also, that road sucked...Otherwise, a good ride! Laughing

The weather was awesome here today. 60 degrees in Michigan on January 12. I should have gotten in some time on the road but alas, another trainer session.

On non-triathlon fronts; we had a dead tree fall in our yard right before Christmas and the beautiful weather was perfect for yard cleanup. The tree is about 80% cut up and the wood split for fires this winter (if it gets cold again). Nothing makes you feel as manly as using a chainsaw and an axe with some wedges for splitting. Anesthesiologists don't have many opportunities to grunt in their day jobs..... I will be sore tomorrow I am sure.

Yes. The sterile chainsaw is an awesome instrument for surgical procedures.

Jason - Be careful with the sharps or you'll need the help of one of us trauma docs Wink

I had to cover for a colleague with a medical emergency, so my ride will have to wait. I have a sprint in the morning and I haven't had access to a pool for a week so it'll be interesting. Sounds like a lot of you had great sessions today.

After two days on the sidelines on orders of my PT I got out for a ride today.  20 Miles in just under an hour.  There are a lot of cyclists here in town and I am fairly acustom to being passed on the road.  Today I passed 7 riders including five from a local tri club.  I don't think I was moving that fast but it was good for the morale.

Probably another ride tomorrow then back to the PT Monday morning.

Stuart-nice job!

Brian-glad its you climbing those towers. Not my thing. Got to take advantage of the nice weather when you can.

Dave-good luck tomorrow.

Jason-swimmer/cyclist/axe man...all in one day....impressive!

Rene-good luck tomorrow.

Really impressed with the training going on with this group. Especially considering its only January.

Steak, twice baked potato, a bit of red wine and a dvd on tap for the night with the wife. Hope we can stay up late enough to make it through the movie. The last Bourne movie.....should be exciting.

Great training going on in this group!

I got in a 29 mile ride, a ride that used to be routine for me, but really hurt today!  Then a short brick run afterwards.

I think it was 80+ degrees here today.  Crazy.

Best wishes to all racers!
