Zoya - sorry, I can't help on explaining how to do a RR. I always seem to just fumble my way around until I do it and definitely couldn't explain it to anyone. You can go to the forum on Training and Nutrition logs and someone can explain it to you. Good luck!

Kendra - AWESOME JOB on your race, so glad to hear you had such a great time. I enjoyed your RR.

Mel - very cute tri suit! I remember the first time I did a tri and I didn't have any of the "gear", I was definitely feeling like a newbie!

My sprint went great this weekend, I really didn't have much time to think about it as I feel like I have so many other things going on right now and I was mostly concerned with my dad doing it. It was his first tri at 76 years old and he did it in under 2 hours! Here is my RR if you want to hear more about it http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=74809&posts=1&start=1

Cathy - hope you had a good trip to SD!

hey girls, how do i submit a RR? I can't find a way to do it.

Go to your log, or to your post above and click on the box for "races"   From there, you click on the race listed and can start typing!

Congrats on all of your races this weekend!

Kendra, you can't put a caption on the pics in the RR, only if they are in your "album."  And what do you mean "walking through the water"  Was it very shallow?

Jill, your dad did the tri?  How awesome is that?

Zoya, can't wait to read the RR!

I'm back from SD, it was great fun!  I had never been there.  Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse were pretty darn cool.  And we stayed at the home of a BTer!  Even cooler.  Hope everyone is good!

Oh yeah, the other way is to go to the "Race Reports" forum and at the top it says "Create your own race report"....click that and go....BUT Zoya, you already have a draft started since you put the race on your calendar and use the other instructions above

WTG Zoya, Kendra & Jill!!! Woohoo! I am so excited to do my tri in 2 weeks after reading all of your race reports. I learned so much from reading everyone's race reports too. I was joking with one of the gals in my tri group we want to finish before they have the awards ceremony.

What is one piece of advice each of you can give us about doing a race?

Melissa

Know that something will not go the way you want it to, and just don't let it fluster you and throw you off. Also, practice your transitions.

You'll do great.

My biggest piece of advice is to remember to run your own race and NOT be intimated by the gear heads with bikes that cost as much as my car. It doesn't always mean that they are faster than you and even if they are, they were beginners at one point. Good luck and most important, have fun!

Hey, I cannot look at your photos. There is alot of information that it is asking me to input. City, State, Zip.... Location of your race....... phone number. I have put your bib # and Buford, GA, but that is about all I know. Can you give me more info so I can look them up?

My race is in 3 days........... YIKES.

Hope to practice some transitions today. I have been swimming in an indoor pool and the race one is outside. Forecast is looking good. I ordered me some tri shorts online and they should be here by Friday.
Erika will be in front of me in the pool. I put her 400 m swim time at 9:50, and my is at 10:50. When we have practiced, her best time is 9:40, then a 10:05.
Mine have been 10:53 and 11:10. I am hoping on swimming faster being in the race. I am getting so nervous just talking about it. UUGGHH

I finally registered on Monday night. I put that off for a while. Now there is no backing out.

I am excited and nervous all together. Only doing Sprint/Pool tris this year. I know I will love it, just have to get past this first one. The scariest part to me is getting out of the pool and getting composure to get up and get over to my bike. Deep breaths.........

I don't know why it is asking you all that info. It does not do that when I go in.
Anyway. My First Triathlon lake lanier,
Buford, Georgia May 5, 2007. 770-978-1085

Good luck with your race this weekend.

I haven't been practicing this week. I am involved with the ACS Relay for Life and it is this Friday. So my days have been split between work and going to the fairgrounds to set up. Team captains picked up their t-shirt bags last night. Today I will be setting up the Pet Luminary area and then back to work to do a training class for new-hires this evening. Tomorrow is the big day. I'm excited for I have been asked to carry the survivor banner at the head of the survivor walk this year. My friend Scott, who is also a survivor banner will be at the other end of it.

Anyway, good luck with all the races this weekend. Anyone else racing besides Christine?

Kendra, Jill, and Zoya - great job on your races! I really enjoyed reading your reports.

Good luck this weekend, luv2bike. Let us know how it goes!

Not much going on with me - just trying to get some more workouts in outside now that the weather is nice. We got a bike trailor for my daughter, so she will be joining us on a ride this weekend. I hope she likes it. The person we bought it from (on craigslist) said that his kids hated the trailor - they were scared. We tried one out at Dick's Sporting Goods last weekend and she was all excited about it, so we'll see. We told her we are going to take a ride to get ice cream, so hopefully that will distract her a bit.

My swim times are improving slowly. I need to turn in my 300yard swim time by Monday so they can put me in an appropriate heat. Right now it is taking me 7min. 42sec. - I am thinking I will turn in a time of 7min or 7min 20sec. Do you think that is smart? The race is June 10th, so I figure with one more month of training, I should be close.

Good luck with your races this weekend! I have been working with a personal coach for my biking, he took me on a biking trail the other day and I almost got killed by a jerk racing 35mph. He did not even tell me he was on my left till he was on my LEFT... I was learning how to use my shifters so I lost balance and wobbled to, my left just as he was passing me... I think he missed me by couple of inches. My coach Dave said if i can survive the trail at 6 PM with tons of people around then the race is going to be much easier :-)

Good Luck with your race this weekend Christine!  You are going to do great!  I'll be cheering you on virtually!

Thank you Kendra, Jill & Zoya for all the great advice.  I'll definitely keep that in mind next Saturday.

When did you stop training before your race?  Some people say the day before don't do anything and some people say three days before.

I'm going to do an OWS practice tomorrow morning.  I rented a wetsuit and there were a few of us in the store learning how to put them on.  It was pretty comical.  I just checked the water temp and it's 78.6 so it looks like I may not need a wetsuit afterall.

Hope everyone has a good weekend & a Happy Mother's Day on Sunday!

Just wondering if this group is still full....I too am just getting back into the swing of things after baby (Aug 06)...and would love some mentoring/support with training...especially since I think my trianing "zones" are all out of wack!

Any possibility of joining?

Happy Mother's Day everyone!  Hope you are all having a great day!

Kateri, I think 7:00 or 7:20 is good for your race.....you'll improve in the meantime, and then racing with several people in a lane will push you also.

carbongirlco, feel free to join in......but see below.....

My time has been really limited recently and I expect that to continue.  I have several large school projects due in the next month and my training time is increasing.  And of course, work and home need my attention!  So I already have been "missing" here....I will continue to check in here and answer questions, I just might be a bit slow at it.  Feel free to PM me also.  I think we have all developed a great rapport and this is a great group....you are all so supportive of each other and that is great!  Keep it going with the awesome training!

From Ron:

So right now we will allow the current mentors to 'disband' should they want to.  It is a lot of work to lead and keep track of 5-10 people and we thank them VERY MUCH for getting this first group of New-Years beginners into the triathlon lifestyle.

What happens next?

  • Your group can disband
  • You can join a new group with the new program if you still want to be mentored.
  • Your group can keep going should you like, even if the mentor leaves.
  • You can also still link your group thread and members into your training log to stay in contact.
  • Your old group thread will still be available to use and post on.

We are making a call for new mentors for the 2nd half of our program ...May through the end of August.  That should get anymore beginners through their late-season first triathlon.

Again, thanks to ALL the mentors for making the first program a success. It was a lot of hard work on their part to keep their group going, to check-in and to answer questions.  Our goal of this was to help as many New Years resolutionists as we can to get past that first month and to build momentum.  I hope we were able to help!

So my thought is that we can keep this thread here and feel free to ask questions....just give me a little time to answer, or if others in the group have something to say, feel free to chime in!  And if you feel like you need more guidance, watch for the new crop of mentors that are going to appear soon.

Hope everyone has an awesome week!

Cathy, Thank you for all of your great advice & wisdom. I really really appreciate it. I've printed out a lot of this thread and highlighted different pieces of it. Hopefully a lot of people in our group will still stick around and post. I really need all of your support the next couple of months. My first tri is this Saturday and my next one is June 17 Sunday. I would also like to support everyone else in their upcoming races.

I know I've been "absent" the past few weeks - but I'd love to continue the thread as well.

Thanks Cathy for everything. It's amazing that you find time to train while working, going to school and being a mom, let alone helping out this group with some pretty great advice and awsome motivation. All your descriptions of the weather out there in CO made me get off my CA butt and brave the "cold" mornings here. LOL!

Hey Mel Good Luck on your tri this weekend!

Mel, good luck with your Tri this weekend. You'll do great.

Cathy, thank you for all the words of wisdom on this thread. It has been awesome to connect with everyone. You have given each of us a great start.

I too would love to see the thread continue. I think that we have all been a great help and inspiration to each other in our venture into triathlons. Cathy has been a great mentor and we have all even begun to know enough to help each other out when Cathy had other demands on her time. I would miss hearing from everyone if our thread went away.
