Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nice work on the swim Carrie75 mins on the trainer this morning and more of the Lake Placid course with Coach Troy. Still impressed with that course but the roads look like they are in horrible shape in some areas. Tough winters up there I am sure. |

![]() | ![]() uhcoog - 2011-10-27 5:26 PMStop all this talk of bum shoulders. My left has been clicking for the past couple months. Given the history of RA in my family I really don't want to go to the doc. Dislocated left twice, right once, pretty much a dull constant pain. Sometimes I lie in bed and take stock of whether by ankles, back, hips or shoulders hurt more, I feel like a 80 year old sometimes........ On a much less silly note, I learned last night that one of my best friend's prematurely born twin daughter's died. Born at 30 weeks, they were 2 pounds each. Samantha contracted a bowel infection and died during surgery. She was 2 weeks old. I cannot even conceive of what to say to them. They live in California so I cannot even just go over and be there for them. About as bad as it gets. |

If it's a guy, then he probably won't want to talk much about it, but you can at least make the effort and touch base. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jeff (rizer) - sorry to hear about the shoulder. I think PT might be the right way to go if you are committed to it. I think it's great that you're racing the HIM for someone else, too. Are you going to try and raise money? |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've been sick this week, so not as much surfing around on the web. Throat feels like hell. Lost my voice. Slight cough. I'm really hoping that if I rest a lot this weekend, then I'll be good to go next week. The weekend is looking pretty chill anyway - pumpkin carving, roasting pumpkin seeds (yummy), and Puss in Boots with the 3 older kids. My best friend's aunt took her own life earlier this week, so I may take a veggie lasagne and bottle of wine over to her house and just hang with her. I think she's pretty emotional. So sad! |

I can't think of any situation that would kill me more inside than that. Only thing you can do is offer an ear really. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Was going to have a nice leisurely swim this morning, but my goggles are in my race bag. DOH!!!
Speaking of swimming and off season, I have some friends that are Endurance Nation clients and/or team members. They prescribe no swimming during the off season: http://www.endurancenation.us/blog/swim/another-reason-against-year-round-swimming-plus-a-challenge/ Edited by uhcoog 2011-10-28 7:57 AM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jeff - that's horrible news, so very sad. I never know what to do or say, but I have learned that doing or saying nothing is not good. Even if you say "I don't know what to say", they know you're thinking of them and will appreciate it. Often times people do not make contact because of that reason, they just don't know what to say. But IMO that makes it worse because they may think you just don't care. I'm so sorry to hear that. I cannot imagine how they must feel right now. ='( |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() rizer - I hate, hate, hate hearing about kids with cancer. You're a good man! My daughter has two 10 year olds in her class this year with leukemia. In fact, one of them just had a bone marrow transplant on Tuesday. We are praying that it works as she has been out of remission 3 times in her short life. I also have a friend in TX who's 3 year old son has ALL. When I run, I think about how strong they are and that all I have to do is try to be as strong as them. They are very, very strong kids!!! I can't imagine what these parents have to endure and hope I never will know. I was so thankful when *I* was the one who got cancer, and it wasn't my kids!!! Jeff - That is so sad. I agree with Karen. Do something. Send a fruit basket with a heartfelt card. But mostly, keep in contact AFTER all the initial shock wears off. They will need a friend in a month and a year, probably more than now. |

One of my closest friends had a stillbirth at 27 weeks pregnant, and every year I send her a card around the time that Carly passed away. I think the fact that I make an effort to remember her loss every year means a lot to her. **edited to add... Michele - you are one strong mama! I can't imagine going through what you have gone through while parenting 4 children. You're amazing. Edited by jarvy01 2011-10-28 8:13 AM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jeff, very sorry to hear that. Like I said yesterday, most of us if not all, are very fortunate to have healthy families. I could never imagine having to deal with that. |
