Champion 6225 | Subject: RE: X-Men ebshot - 2009-04-19 4:40 PM After my rough ride yesterday, I have decided that I need to focus more on biking. So, I will be spending even more time on my bike. Not so much pool time and much more outdoor riding time. If it isn't pouring, I'll be riding! I got in another ride this morning. Probably too much chatting going on but it was fun! I'm a bit discouraged but thankful that I still have two months of hard training before the HIM. ERICA. you always seem to know just what adjustments need to be made to your trng. i think thats SUPER. your gonna be GRAND come your HIM! Edited by skrtrnr 2009-04-20 6:52 AM |

Champion 6225 | Subject: RE: X-Men wplummer - 2009-04-17 12:06 PM to today i conquered the mountain-both literally and figuratively. out of s/b/r biking is my favorite, but i havent been able to ride hills in a comfortable fashion until this morning. i live in suburban los angeles, and yes there are mountains 10 mins from my house. i have rode up glendora mountain road probably 2 dozen times, but i havent ridden it since october i think. glendora mountain road is steep and windy and if i can maintain 8mph i am happy. well this morning was my first attempt to try it with the new hardware in my knee. it was a tough climb, and i usually climb seated, but at 6mph this morning i am happy. the elevation increase is over 2500ft in about 5 miles. my knee felt great and still feels fine. it was a beautiful morning to conquer the mountain. A BEAUTIFUL MORNING TO CONQUER THE MOUNTAIN. AND CONQUER IT YOU DID WILL. what an amazing accomplishment considering all youve been through. id say YOUR BACK, whadya think? Champion 6225 | Subject: RE: X-Men ALRIGHTY THEN X-MEN. i had the most magnificent weekend. 100% kid free thanks to my brother, opening weekend of trout fishing, and our family fishing camp. he took all three boys for the weekend. sweet relief. friday i went on a urban soul ride. tooled around the city. cant say it was my 'favorite' thing to do - im not much of an urban/city girl - i much prefer my trail along the creek/lake, but, it was enjoyable nonetheless. i got to hang out at REI for a bit and met my husband for an early dinner at our favorite resturant (i biked there, how cool is that?) saturday i went running down my said fav trail. had to contend a bit w all the trout fisherman passing them by on the trail w their fish in hand, dodging a few fishing poles, but had a great time nonetheless. BEAUTIFUL day weather-wise. i was able to 'lay down' 6.5 miles running, so im feeling really confident that ill be able to do that 10K marathon relay leg come the beginning of May. saturday was an incredible day in another important way. my husband and i spent the afternoon helping an old friend of mine and his wife. there were a group of us that went to their house to help with yardwork and to celebrate my friend, DANs birthday. 11 months ago, while putting up a rope swing for his daughters, DAN feel out of a tree and broke both bones in his lower leg. they made every attempt to reconstruct his leg surgically, but he ended up contracting a stap infection during one of the surgies that he wasnt able to 'fight off' in attempt to save as much of his leg (and his life) they made the decision to amputate his leg below the knee. he just had that procedure done on April 2nd. i can tell you i was prepared for all sorts of things, but not what i saw when i arrived. here was a guy, that unless you knew he had a lost a leg, look active and vibrant and full of life. he was doing what he could to clearing out planting beds, driving the lawn tractor, and building a huge bonfire of leaves, branches, and other lawn debris. UNBELIEVABLE. i starting talking to him, and he share how before the accident he wanted to start running again. he was a HS and college track athlete, but had fallen out of shape and out of running. and he shared that INSPITEOF the amputation, he wanted to pursue that goal. im not sure how long it will take him to actually do it, but there is no doubt w an attitude like his, and unwillingness to allow to deter him in anway, that he WILL run! he meets w his PTs at Rehab this week, he'll be fitted w a prothestic, and then begin the Rehab process. but im telling you he is WELL ahead of the curve. so, at the end of the evening, when there was just a few of us still around, i asked DAN to sign my leg (the same one he lost) and i told him that i was gonna dedicate my first TRI and my marathon relay leg to him and his WILL to go on after this life-changing event. you know, after something like that, you can begin to think about all the things that you CANT do. i dont think the thought has even occurred to DAN. life might be different from here on out, he recognizes that, but life GOES ON. so its that INDOMITABLE SPIRIT, THAT I WILL SPIRIT that run my race on Sunday and then the ff Sunday. HERES TO DAN. quite the guy dont you think??? stacieb |

I was Standing next to Ryan Hall at the start line. I have some great pics on my phone ..one of Robert Cherriott starring at him. I stood on the start line last year and I was suprised to find that the elite runners appear to experience the same anxiety as I do on race day. I had to get there 3 hours before the race to secure my spot but ot was well worth it. When I figure out how to download my pics I'll post some. Today I have to swim!!! I have been doing my frozen ows..now its time to seriously swim. Raining today...so no biking I'll be out there running in the rain today too Erica. Cant wait for the 80's over the weekend!!! |

A win is a win is a win!! Big congrats to you! |

HAS ANYONE DONE THIS TO THEIR NON-ROAD BIKE?? just curious what your experience was? i have an itty bitty run today, that im actually considering blowing off. im thinking its not necessary what w the brick im doing. i may take today off, do my long brick tomorrow - BIKE TO RUN - work it out on my new swifty tires and then call it a week. im just not sure on what to do the two days before my race. ANY SUGGESTIONS?? i know i dont want to do much, but im not certain i want to take the two days completely OFF. WHAT DO YOU ALL FIND BEST TO DO THE TWO DAYS BEFORE A RACE? stacieb |

Master 1887 Loveland, Ohio | Subject: RE: X-Men Congrats on the new pimped-out bike, Stacie!!! I've never made any changes to any of my bikes before so unfortunately I don't have any experience to share. Depending on how ancy you are, I might go for an itt bitty run today and do an itty bitty brick tomorrow and quit training after that. If you're not that ancy, just do a short brick tomorrow. Whatever you do, have fun with the "new" bike! skrtrnr - 2009-04-22 8:43 AM ^^^^ it always feels good to feel good goin' into a race, doesnt it? im picking up my 'pimped out' bike today. corey called to tell us our bikes were finished. im so anxious to get on and ride. corey put on road tires (i have performance hybrid) ive been told they make a big difference in the ride/speed. I would do the run today and a small brick tomorrow. Maybe a short swim on Friday if you are bored. You want to be well rested for your race but not sluggish either!
