kimk - 2009-09-22 5:53 AM Finally caught up! Will ride to work/home, take tri stroke and maybe a run...need to see how the lungs are feeling. I have had this sore throat, that has moved a bit of heaviness into my chest Hope it is better before Sunday! I wanna feel good for my last race!!

Take care - hope you feel better soon.  Good luck on Sunday

What is "tri stroke" ?

Dee

Dee tri-stroke is a swim class geared for triathletes, we focus on sighting we attempt mass starts(all of us in one lane, take off together) practice running through the water.... and endurance. It keeps me honest in my swim training!!

That's sounds way fun actually! I tried to get some folks to do that our pool but no luck! Good for you to have the resource!

We have a great Tri-club too! Trying to get more group workouts in, with meeting/trainings once a month right now. Would love to grow this bigger! It has great potential!

deehtz - 2009-09-22 8:59 PM A core workout today and a run session.

This time DH went with me.  He can walk fast ... I have to race walk to keep up with him.  I decided to jog but keep pace with him.  So I jogged a lot slower than before.  I could jog a LOT longer than my other sessions and felt a lot better after than I have after my last couple of run sessions.

I think that I had better do more sessions like this ... run easier for longer time.  This must be the sort of thing you were talking about earlier, Tracy, when we were talking about intervals vs endurance.     .... on my small scale of courseLaughing

Absolutely Dee!!!!!  Yippee!!!!!  So glad you did this!!!!  No, this is not a small scale.  This is a HUGE breakthrough!!!!

Hello DAN.

not sure what you mean by mix but...

i start out w 10 mins easy/long run pace

then 20 mins at my tempo pace which is slightly faster than my 1/2 marathon goal pace

and then finish up 10 mins at my easy/long run pace.

what i was jazzed about is that the last time that i did a tempo run, the tempo pace felt like a bit of reach ie i had to work really hard to maintain it...

this time, though i was still working, it felt MUCH more manageable to maintain.

a sign of progress i'd say.

that sub 2 hr 1/2 Mary goal is looking like its w/in my grasp more and more of the time.

if i can just maintain, not push too hard....run up to that 'edge'....but not over it, ya know.

SUCH a delicate balance.

Thanks Stacie.   That was exactly the answer I was looking for - not something I'm planning to do for a while, but I do want to add this into the mix in the future.   Right now (as I mentioned in my previous post) I'm going to build my baseline using an easy pace.   I want to get up to the half mary level for my long run and hold there for a while before adding any kind of intensity (tempo, hills, etc.).

DAN.

the way your going about it, super duper smart.

i had 12 mos of consistent running (4xs a week) before i added any sort of speedwork into my regime.

and then when i did, i added those types of workouts in VERY gradually.

GRADUAL being the KEY word....ive seen it time and time again, people doing too much, too soon, running too fast.  inevitably they get injured.

i might not have made the same 'progress' that some of my 'swifitier' friends made in the beginning, BUT im still running persistently and consistently.

incremental progress may be slow, but its STILL PROGRESS.

even now, after three years, im still using an intermediate running plan that only includes tempos and intervals  ie no hill workouts and mile repeats that the advance plan includes....

next year we'll move up to one of those

youre one SMART runner!

Got a 2.6 mile run done with baby in the running stroller.  I think that should count double miles!

Way to go!....you will be really speedy without the baby!!

You're not kidding!  That workout counts as my hard running workout for the week!

Today's saga.  No workout for me.
Went to Rotary at 7:30
Left at 8:15 when a staff called to say no one at the branch.  They wanted to know if they missed a closing.  I said no, that I would leave Rotary and be there in about 20 minutes.
Well, over an hour later I made it to the branch.  Hwy 78 closed to flooding.  Five Forks closed to flooding.  Hwy 29 closed to flooding.  Killian Hill, Lake Lucern, etc all closed to flooding.  I had to go about 10 miles out of my way to get to work.  Even had to leave the county and come back in on another road in order to get around the darn river that was causing all this problem.  My branch was basically cut off from the rest of the county.  LOL

Most of the roads are now open except for the direct route from my house to work.  It is permantly closed due to the weather.  I think that means the road is washed out, but I haven't gotten anywhere close to it to find out.

Now tonight is the Library board meeting that might decide the fate of the libraries in this county.  Who will close.  Who will stay open.  How many hours will they cut.

holy hannah KENDRA.

how long do they suspect it will take for the waters to recede and things starting opening up again?

be safe while youre getting around.
stacieb

Several of the major roads have opened up and some of the smaller roads.  So we are on the road (no pun intended) to recovery here in Gwinnett.  The road between work and home though, I'm not sure how long that one will be out.  It needs major repair, but I can get to work on othre less direct routes.

I am guessing all the interstates are doing OK... I will be passing through on my way north about 11:00 am on Friday, I20, then north on the by-pass and then 85 north... I haven't seen any reports about road blockages in those areas.

I sure hope they got your road fixed soon. Boy that area was hit hard!

You should be fine on 85 and 285 around ATL.  85 was closed for part of Monday, but it's been good since then.  I20 was closed by Six Flags.  Haven't heard anything recent in that area today, so it might be good by now.
