Ice falling in Virginia tonight, but hopefully won't amount to much.  Had a good swim today... workout PB of under 17min for 1000.  Plus, if I can get in 3 hours of training tomorrow and Saturday, I will reach my 7 hour / week training goal for the month.  Next week I probably lose Fri + Sat, so realized today this is the week to hit 7 (though I will try to match again next week).   Hope everyone is doing well on their goals and that Michael is cursing me :-)  Speaking of cursing, I need to get my intervals in tomorrow or Saturday.  As much as I dislike them, they do seem to be improving my 5K training speed.  Hoping to get in under 25 on a hamster 5K run soon.

Guitar class was canceled tonight, so that means I am already prepared for next week... yippee!

I came home this evening to my daughter throwing up, so I'm not sure how working out tomorrow is shaping up, as I'll be watching her all day.  I'm about to hop on the trainer to get something in, and take tomorrow as it comes.

I don't curse you anymore, Stu.  I'm over that.  In fact, the other day I did 5x50 kick on 10s rest and although it was hard, it was doable.  (Three weeks ago I would have collapsed, overcome by cramps.)  So see:  just making yourself live through the pain actually works sometimes!  Seriously, though, the challenge thing was a great idea -- without publicly proclaiming 750m of kicking per week, I'm pretty sure I would not be where I am now on that point.

I hope everyone's had a good day.  Now, to find a movie to help get me through trainer-suffering...

Hmmm... I'll have to find someone else to curse me then... Phil maybe?  I've been slapping him silly recently ;-)  But yes, the 7 hours of training goal keeps staring me in the face too, and I'm sure the eating log would not have happened if I hadn't set the weight loss goal.  Glad I added in the secondary goal... my general philosophy is that weight loss is a by-product of better lifestyle (exercises, nutrition, lower stress, etc.).  But, the number helps me make better decisions (I think).

Just completed my speed workout. Goal was 2 x 1mile @ 8:15 and I hit the number, with warmup & cooldown did total of 6 miles. What I'm really happy about is the fact I didn't get any cramps (side stitch). Well time to get something to eat then rest and be ready for early morning swim.

Hey Phil! looks like my Sens beat your Blues.

More importantly (to me anyway) is that MY Flyers beat the STINKIN' RANGERS!

I have 3 favorite teams:
1 - The Flyers
2 - Whoever is playing the Rangers
3 - Whoever is playing the Devils

Rain, rain go away.  Looks like I'll have to paddle instead of pedal this weekend.  We haven't had this much rain in years.
Hope you all have good workouts this weekend, looks like mine will be in the gym.

I have two:
1. SENS
2. Whoever is playing the LEAFS

I moved from Ottawa to Oshawa (which is just outside Toronto) and friends are trying to convert me, but it will never happen.

Flyers pickup bad boy Emery. Is he keeping a low profile in Phily? Or did he actualy change his attitude?

He's been keeping his nose clean so far.  Either that or he is paying the media big bucks to keep it out of the papers!

Here too.  I think it'll be warm enough to run in the rain, but I don't bike in the rain, at least not by choice, so my long ride this weekend might end up being a trainer ride.  3 hours on the trainer.  Yuck!

Here's hoping everyone has a great weekend.  I'll check everyone's logs over the weekend.

OK, so I just typed this:  "Inspire me to inspire you!" then thought better of it, because it could come across the wrong way.  But you all know what I mean, right?  I love to see great stuff in the logs, and to be able to say 'great job!'  Gives me warm fuzzies. Probably just like Sylvain and Scout feel when someone on the 'evil' hockey team gets beaten and bloodied on the ice.  Wink

Last night I decided to skip my morning swim so I could get an extra hour sleep (got 6 hours). I thought since I did a hard run I better get the sleep and will try to get my swim in tonight (if the wife lets me). The extra hour was great, I actualy had a good sleep and felt refreshed this morning.

Stu - Thanks for slappin me silly. Everytime a dougnut calls my name I think about it.

Syl-  Blues loss was a heart breaker. We have a lot of "kids". They cannot seem to put together good outings back to back. It's been a long season. : ( Can't wait for baseball season.

Scout- Here in the midwest we HATE ANY STINKIN EAST COAST TEAM, WHATEVER the sport. ; )

Hopefully going to get some time on the bike this evening. Tomorrow I have a long run of 8 miles scheduled. We have had a little break in the weather. It should be in the low 40's and damp. If it is I'm headed to the local state park. I don't know if I can do another long run on a treadmill or indoor track. Last night I did 90 LAPS on indoor track. AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!

Got in 5 miles on the TM last night and an hour on the trainer this morning. Funny how much easier it is with nonstop coverage of the Jets on ESPN!!

StlPhil, based on your East Coast comment, I'm guessing you're not pulling for Gang Green this weekend.

Can't wait for the spring. Then we get non-stop Yankees and RedSox coverage on ESPN! See my point. LOL

More or less same here.  This morning I had the option of 90 more minutes of sleep or going to the pool.  I decided to push the swim off until tomorrow, as I've been pushing pretty hard the past few days, and I'm glad I did.  Sleep is good.

Just took the family out for pizza tonight.  I tried to be good -- but I guess I'll find out tomorrow whether I'll need to try amputation to make my weight goal this month.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Easy to do at the end of a long week.  I had been really good all day... two fruit snacks, salad for lunch... and my wife brings home honey roasted peanuts from the store... they were 10 for $10... and it's 8pm and I am just now getting dinner on.  Guess who ate 1/3rd the jar of nuts.

And on that note... tomorrow is check in day for January goals.  I would advise against amputation to make the goals, unless you're just amputating that second helping of pork roast off your plate.  Have a great evening and weekend everyone!

Went out for a 5.5 mile run this evening and didn' t really feel like I was runnning a very fast pace, but it was my fastest training pace yet.  Felt Strong.

Stu I met my goal for two Core Workouts this week; got my second in this evening after my run.  We'll see what tomorrow brings with the weight challenge.  It is a busy day tomrrow... Weight Watchers Meeting...Indoor Cycling Class...Tri Club Swim Clinic and meeting with a family type gathering after (little Pizza and soda).  Should be a pretty good time.  I'll spend some time with my son at this New Community Fitness Center when the clinic and meeting is being held.  I'll report on the weight loss tomorrow.

Hope to get in some football viewing this weekend, but I am sure there is a honey-do-list somewhere with my name on it.

That's great.  I love it when that happens.  I surprised myself yesterday too.

If it happens consistently for a couple of weeks, then you should readjust your training paces.  I like to use Daniels' "vdot" formula, but another very nice resource is the McMillan running calculator, here(Careful:  It plays loud music at you when you go there.)

Have a good weekend everyone.  I'm off for a long ride this afternoon, taking advantage of a break in the rain today.  It looks like Sunday will be back indoors...

Always a wealth of information; thanks for the links Michael.  I looked at the McMillan Running Calculator but haven't used it to plan out my running workouts.  I'll give it a go and look at the Vdot formula.

Got to run outside today. First time in a couple months. 8.25 miles in the local state park. I was really pleased in the difference that losing 20lbs and an additional 2 months of training makes. The loops in the park have a lot of hills. Two months ago they were a real challenge. Today they were actually fun.

It was low 40's and wet. Ah, the smell of rain, decomposing leaves, 15mph head wind and the "Beastie Boys" on the mp3 player sure is a lot better than a hampstermill. Felt like I could go forever.

Hey guys.  I hit the scale at 219 today, so just 2 more pounds to go for the challenge.  The weather's been co-operating here, so a long bike is in the plans for tomorrow.

Got out this afternoon and did 5.5 miler, my long run. Was supposed to be 7 miles but was lucky enough to be able to get out as it was a little hectic at home and things not goint as schedule. I missed my swim last night because of work issues, was dispointed since this would have been a new distance for me. Just means I need to wait until Monday.

This is my third season training for endurance and one thing that has been consistent is my thighs are done early but my cardio can take more. I take always go easy to start and gradualy increase to desired pace. I don't over stride, I keep a short stride. So, I"m woundering if this is normal for a rookie or do I need to be doing some strenght workouts. I can't see myself going any slower, I feel slow enough. Maybe my legs are built for short sprints only, always been a fast runner and skater, so I should just accept it.

Today, could also have been because only got one full day rest after my speedwork.

Oh ya! yesterday I picked up the The Triathle's Bible 3rd edition. I herd lots of good things about it so I thought I'd read it.

Thoughts?
Sylvain

Very nice to hear!  I was able to get outside today too, and felt the same way.  Alas, it looks like tomorrow will be infoors again.  You know they only let us out for fresh air for brief periods....

So how's this for a day of workouts...and it is still going at 5:33 pm PST.. 1.5 hr Indoor Cycling Class; 1hr long swim clinic; 1/2 swim time with my son after the swim clinic and now that I am  home I get to do a little crawling on the belly.

Explanation...every now and then we get a dead mouse (field mouse which are quite big) under the house that does not dry up and rot away like the poison says it should and I have to play army guy, go under the house in the crawl space, crawl on the belly, hunt down the dead mouse and bag it up to get it out of there.  Then it is back to fresh air, a happy family, a tried and itchy dad.

I think this day certainly calls for one, maybe two Michelob Lights this evening.  Sound good?

Tomorrow it is off to a long run/slow pace (probabaly 7.5 or so miles) in the mid morning.
