Lumber Dad - 2010-02-14 8:18 PMSpent another day on the couch, driving me crazy. I don't go back to the doctor until Feb 23rd, so that means no working out until after that :-(

That sounds sad. When do you get to unpack your nose?

I'm off to Disney World for a week.  No running and dessert every night.  I'm sure I'll pay for it later, but at least it will be fun.  Hopefully 60 degrees is better than 30.

Disney sounds nice, hope the weather is great!  We were graced with YET MORE SNOW last night and the roads are very slick, so I'll be running loops on the little track at the Y this evening.

Hope everyone had a nice Valentines Day!

We did the Disney thing last June, a little hotter in June. You will probably get enough walking in that you won't miss your run. I could never get the family moving before 8am so I would usually go out for a short run.

I've never been to Disney World - Disney Land yes. I don't think my kids would do welll at Disney.

We took the girls skiing yesterday. The hills are so small here!  But they had fun and they are getting to be really good skiiers.

Also....today I did my very first BRICK! Yes  it was trainer to treadmill but hey it counts

We've got a pretty aggressive schedule so hopefully we can get them up and around.  My wife who is training for a 25k and a marathon in May is going to keep running.  I say good for her!

When it worked out, we used the speed pass. At Universal you can buy a speed pass which was great. Since you are going during the off season you might not need it was much.

We could do a Wednesday weigh-in, anyone weigh in this morning?
Didn't want to after Fat Tuesday, that I have been doing a lot of sitting around.
Anyone giving up anything for Lent?

I did not get on the scale today, after this weekend's Valentines Day binging and just general slothitude (is that a word?), I was afraid to go near it. Yell .  I did start a pretty strict Zone-type diet on Monday that one of my Crossfit buddies has used with great success, so maybe that will help things. I'm so busy weighing and measuring food that I don't have time to eat. Perhaps that is the secret of the diet.

Just got back from San Fran today.

Glad to hear that your surgery went well!  I know being laid up is a pain the a$$ for active people.  You just have to tough it out and recover well so you can train hard.

Only got a couple runs in this past weekend.  Trail running is great!  My left knee is bothering me though.  Can't seem to get that to go away .  I am doing the 15 minute runs to get used to the new style of running.

Finished "Born to Run" yesterday aslo....great book.  Gave me a ton of motivation and I feel great that I am attempting the same type of running technique.

Weighed in this morning 194lbs.  Not sure what I was last time...pretty sure it was about the same.

Hey folks-Most everything in Mobile was closed yesterday for Fat Tuesday.  Mardi Gras actually originated in Mobile and it is still very big.  Not quite the numbers as New Orleans but still a big deal with lots of Mardi Gras Balls and parades (I try to avoid both) almost every night for 10 days or so.  We headed out of town and spent the long weekend in Chattanooga.

Did not get a workout in Saturday but been able to do something everyday since.  Still limited due to slow to recover right leg problems but able to bike some and finally able to do the elliptical without causing a flare up.  Got a quick swim in tonight and saw that the pool is closed next week for annual service.  Been averaging 10,000+ swim yards a week and was hoping to hit 40k or more for the month-will have to find somewhere else to swim next week.  Silver lining in the leg/piriformis problem has been the unplanned swim focused training over the last month.  More frequent trips to the pool has really helped me get a better feel for the water and work on some specifics.

I was actually visiting my little sister who just had the baby.  She sure is a cute one!

My aunt actually lives in Kentfield and my cousin took us running on the trails up there.  The weather was beautiful.  I came back to 10" of new snow in NH on Tuesday.

Great job on the swimming. Time in the pool is the best way to improve your swim times. I have trouble getting more than 2x per week in the pool, wish I had time to get at least 3x.

Randy, you're a machine!  How many times a week does that take!?

How close do you guys live to Milwaukee?  I had to stay the night there on the way back from CA.  All I know if that it was cold, windy, flat, and the people have funny accents. Wink

Milwaukee...I always remember driving through there on the way to Elkhart Lake and getting stuck in some really, really bad traffic (construction or something), then getting flipped off by some jerk for driving too slowly for his taste. Embarassed

jgerbodegrant - How many times a week does that take!?

I will usually have 3 "planned" swim workouts  a week each of 2300-3000 yards.  Sometimes I will do a 4th but most of the other yardage has come from doing 1000-1500 in drills and/or pull sets on the days I have been suffering through aqua jogging.  I figure since I am at the pool I need to do something constructive.  I suspect once I get back to biking and running consistently my swim sessions will decrease.  Although, I have enjoyed seeing the improved times and feel that I have made alot of progress.  Before I would swim 2-3 times a week and sometimes less.  Seems all that did was allow me not to lose ground.   Helps that the pool opens at 5:00am, is only a mile from my house and is never crowded early in the morning.

No doubt "the jerk" probably had IL plates and was on his way to Door Co.

No kidding!  Wish I was that lucky.  Our pool is filled with serious swimmers at 5 am and they mean business.  A little posessive of their lanes too.
