Just because you guys can appreciate this stuff.  Terrible day - doctor's appt., haircut, got in a car accident (hit from behind).  Ugh.  Luckily fairly minor damage (and not my fault).  So I'm pretty pissed at life at this point and head to my "fast pre-race swim."  Got my good suit on and hit the pool.  The times I managed to post - all from push starts:

100yd - 1:07
200yd - 2:23
500yd - 6:14

The 200 and 500 were personal bests by a good margin.

Race preparation is complete.

LostSheep - 2010-08-12 5:07 PM It may or may not help pilot, but I'm riding a 52 on the roadie and the Trinity is a S (Giant). You're welcome to try them out and see what you think. I surely don't mind.

PS - you've really been daydreaming! (I like the Trek TTX and the Cervelo will take some effort, but it'll be what you want and you could quite possibly get it much cheaper if you do your homework and don't get in a rush).

No doubt. This fall there will be lots of nice 1 year old bikes for sale.

Why's that?

Happens every year. I guess a lot of folks just buy a bike, ride it for 1 season, then sell it. maybe they upgrade, maybe they go back to the couch. Same thing happens with boats. They are always cheaper in the fall.

The Trek Speed Concept is worthy of some wood.

Don't make me drool any more than I need too.....  I'm definitely in no rush.

My last tri of the season will be Rocketman, then the fall HM training starts.  I've got plenty of time to look.  My goal would be to possibly have a tri bike at least 2-3 months prior to my HIM, but i'll take sooner.  I haven't decided which HIM, but leaning towards next fall, maybe Augusta.  Spring just seems too soon to properly prepare, as I still feel like i have a lot of work to do.  Gulf Coast, Florida 70.3, Galvastin 70.3 and New Orleans 70.3 all look interesting though.

I hate haircuts, but I have more aero head now.

Race went well.  No splits yet, but I got my stupid stuff done on the swim (got off course a tad), but still never got passed.  Bike was 23mph+ and run was ~7:45/mile or so.  Pretty happy with the bike and run.  The swim was short, so no telling how I really did until the times come out.

Edit:  Full race report here.

Nice Sand!

2 things folks:
I need talking off the ledge. A friend is trying to persuade me to join him in his effort at the Ashville NC half marathon Sep 18. My long runs are in the 8mi range right now. My weekly is around 20mpw. I'm not really trained for it, but I could probably do it. Either way, it'd be ugly.

However, the price is cheap, they give out shirts & medals, and we'd go down the lazy river afterwards, and possibly throw in a whitewater trip. Am I setting myself up for a major injury or disappointment (i already do have a broken toe)?

And #2
I need a wheel (rim). Cheap. I managed to find a cassette cheap, but now I need a rim to mount it on. It's going on my trainer so I don't care about brand, weight, or speed. Just a rim. Used is fine as long as it isn't garbage. I have a tube and tire for now. Any suggestions or know anyone who has any that you'd be willing to share with me?

ok, that is all...

You put together a good race.  The 23mph avg on the bike is strong.  Good race report.

I think if you are in the 8mi range right now and 20mpw, you can build your long run to 12 miles before Sept 18, without much problem, adding 10% week.  Only question, would be the toe.  Can it handle the extra mileage and recoup at the same time?  You could also work in a run/walk combo if needed...... May not be the best HM time for you, but the trip sounds awesome, might be worth a look.

Thanks!

If you didn't have the toe I'd say go for it.  HM easily done with your state of fitness.  With the toe I'd skip it, honestly.

On a cheap rim I'd look at Nashbar during their sales times (one and off all the time).  Performance Titan rims are made by Neuvation and can be had cheap.  Neuvation was having a sale not too long ago, as well.

If the toe isn't healthy then I'd say no.  But you just ran an unoffical PB for a 10K, so I'd say go ahead.

Run one or two 10 milers and you'll be ready to rock!

Thanks for the wheel recomendations. I'm eyeballing that Nashbar wheel, just b/c it's $10 cheaper. This wheel will be lucky to see more than just the trainer. I think they'll be married by the time I get done w/ them this winter.

This will be the winter of the bike!

And also, thanks for clouding my head with confusion on the half marathon. Part of me wants to be smart, stay home, race a local 5k hard, and call it done; mostly so I'm not destroying that toe. The other part of me wants to go rafting, & racing, and then have a great weekend...

...oh the choices...

This got better reviews than the one on Nashbar though.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing, as I see a winter of training on my bike.

Of course, I'm also throwing around the idea of a cheap Cyclocross bike to have fun and commute...what better way to bike in the fall/winter than getting out on a muddy course and mixing things up.

I'm sorta thinking that. There's a 5k up there in NC too. So that'd be a long hard drive just for a 5k, when I can do the same here...

A local running club sponsors a low key race every week and this week it is a 10k.  My plan calls for a tempo run on Thursday but I'm thinking about replacing it with 10k.  I'll end getting a harder workout then scheduled (my plan calls for a 10 warmup, 25 minutes at tempo pace and 10 minute cool down) but I think it's worth it.  I just started the peak phase of training for my A-race (an Oly in mid-sept) and I don't feel like I've been pushing myself enough.  I think the race will help me do just that.  Plus it will give me some more experience at that distance.  Thoughts?
