Thanks for the thoughts guys.

Got in a short workout tonight.  Didn't have much time so I just did a quick 2k swim.  I really need to start working on my running.  I had a knee issue for a while and my running was sub par to begin with.  I think I'm just going to start over with a couch to 5k program that I have.  I think it would be better to build a base from the start instead of killing myself trying to get up to speed right away.  The swim felt good.  First time in the pool in about 1 1/2 months and I did the 2k in 35 minutes with average effort.

I need to think about some goals.  Weight loss is always one and I want to finish a 70.3 upright as opposed to crawling in September.  Other than that I haven't really thought about.  I'll put something together tonight and get on board with everyone tomorrow.

Excellent!  The momentum is moving in the right direction.  Welcome back.

Speed Play pedals came in yesterday. I put them on today and rode for a couple of minutes, one "mile" on the trainer. I REALLY want to do more, but I dont want to aggravate the knee. At least I know the pedals and cleats are installed corectly. I'm trying to get a good fitting scheduled for friday, which I'm hoping will help.

I think that's a very smart idea. Sometimes it's hard for us to let go of the ego and start with such a conservative plan (one of the big differnces between athletics as a kid vs adult i think), but in the long run it is often the best plan.

I've gone through my share of injuries and finally learned after doing it wrong many many times that this is the way to go, and you'll be much happier in the long run. Gains will come slower at first, but long term it will be better and you'll keep improving vs having an injury layoff.

Good luck!

Was able to get out for a run today...again, just to run.  Same route that I ran before.  Got to the turnaround point, (2.25 mi), and felt real good so I kept going.  Got to 3 miles, still felt real good.  So I kept going.  Got to the 4 mile mark, which is the half way point around the airfield, and kept going because it was shorter to keep going...and I still felt good.  Got a little bit of a runner's high around mile 5 and that stuck around for about a mile.  Then my legs realized what was going on and I got me to slow down some.  Ended up finishing the loop, (7.7 mi) in about 77 minutes.

Legs are going to be screaming at me tomorrow, but it's all good.  By the time I hit the 6 mile mark, I wasn't going to let myself NOT finish the loop around the airfield.  Probably could have done without the last mile, but I didn't over do it with an injury.  I'd like to try to make this a once weekly run until I leave (3 weeks), with some 3-4 milers sprinkled in there as well.

All in all, I'm real happy with the run, it's one of those runs that does nothing but encourage me to keep getting at it.

Well the delayed opening of work is going to allow me a double work out today--already done an hour on the trainer and will get a run in tonight after work.

_Deb_ - 2011-01-11 5:27 PM So, I had my first swim with the tri group yesterday and it was FANTASTIC.  I already feel like I've gotten as much out of it as I did from the entire session of the last swim class I took.  Most of the time was spent working on drills to help with body rotation.

Awesome!  I'm so excited for you Smile

In other news, the weather sucks, and I'm seriously falling into cold weather doldrums - both in life and training.

I hear you.  I know that if I don't get outside I can get into a winter blues pattern.  The weather that you are having right now truly sucks.  If the track is a drag, is using a treadmill an option?  I mean would a TM be less of a drag?   Can you rearrange your workouts for days that the weather is a better or does extra juggling just add more stress?

Any opinions on the Xterra Vortex3 wetsuits?  I (or anyone else on here) can get one for $150 with the survey discount.  I've done some searching around and they seem to get decent reviews.

I'm an Xterra sponsored athlete/coach, so take this for what it's worth, but i've not seen many suits and companies together with the quality of Xterra. They have a great return policy in case you get the wrong size, and are very helpful, plus the suits RULE.

If you do decide to go with it, let me know, i can offer you a discount similar and in some cases better than the BT one and it helps me out a lot.

Work is cancelled today due to the snow, so i get some serious lazy time and a bit of time to get caught up on my own projects:-)

FWIW I found that my Xterra wetsuit fits higher and tighter in the neck than my Blue Seventy (could just be my body).  You might want to take that into consideration when choosing fit.  However, it is a beautiful quality suit and I have no other complaints.

Best snow day ever.  Our kids made coffee this morning and brought it to my husband and I... in bed.  Then, they proceeded to prepare us a feast of fruit and flower-shaped pancakes.

Now, I just need to work off the pancakes before Monday's weigh-in!  My quads are absolutely screaming from the last two days, so I'll probably do another round of treadmill walking and either a swim or ST.

Thanks for the info.  Being 6'3" with a 31" inseam gives me a lot of torso so that might work out good for me.

from my experince they fit fairly similar. Before moving to Xterra i raced in a blue seventy helix and both felt very close to the same.

Same here....home from work due to snow.  They didn't cancel...I did.  We have at least a foot so far and still coming down.

I am also going to get a xterra full suit this year.  I have a 2Xu right now that I need to get rid of.  It just doesn't fit me correctly.  Newbz, which suit would you recommend.  I don't mind paying a bit more if it's that much better.  I'm still looking for the buoyancy, so maybe not the top of the line.  Is the Vortex 3 pretty much just as good as the next step up?  What kind of discount do you get?

Running late for work today, did a 20min spin instead of 30. Stayed around 95rpm and averaged 19.8mph.  Felt good.

On the wetsuit topic, I got a Vortex 3 fullsuit last year, and love it! I have only tried 2 different wetsuits before, and they were both a little outdated, but I think the Vortex 3 is great, and it is a crazy deal for that price.

Well, just got back from my "run".  I was supposed to just go out and jog for 25 minutes.  It's snowing so hard that my glasses kept getting clogged and when I took them off it was like needles in the eyes.  Awesome!  It was a bit slick, but so much fun.  I don't understand how I could possibly run in Zone 2 though.  My zone two only goes up to 115.  I can walk up the stairs and get that!!!

hahaha yeah, that's how last night was here, but it was a blast!!

Shoot me a PM about the wetsuit and we'll talk about the discount.

As far as suits go, they get more flexible as you go up the line, but frankly you wont be missing much with one or two suits down the line. IE get what you are comfortable with price wise. I raced two races in the 99$ volt before my suit came in and i'd have no issues recommending it to someone.

Well, I am proud to say that I sucked it up and ran outside today and I feel so much better then I would have if I went to the track.  I was getting all my stuff together and had pretty much decided to run at the track when I realized that I hadn't charged my ipod and it was dead.  Now, I've actually done most of my runs without it lately, but not 8km (5mi), by myself, at the track.

With no music, no way was I going to run in a bunch of circles, so I went outside.  It wasn't even that bad.  It was warmer then it has been lately: -19c (-2f), but there was hardly any wind.  I think it's actually the wind that I hate, not the cold.  I didn't even wear my face mask.  I feel fabulous now.

Exact same thing happened to me deb.  Usually i wear the ipod because I'm too hot with a hat, but the cold wind hurts my ears.  This time the snow sort of blocked them up anyway.  Good to hear you stuck it out.  I love running on the snow, so nice and soft!

Nice job Deb!

I find that the wind is the killer outside as well.  If it's too windy, I'll hit the TM.  But then again, this is only my first year outdoor running in MN.  Maybe I'll toughen up next year!
