I may or may not make it out.  I have a couple of folks who want to do the Augusta HIM with me, but they are not sure about the group riding yet in the busier part of town.  I've got to work on getting them out with the tri group.

The particular route that was sent out is pretty light on traffic.  The only "busy" road is Hwy 78, and that is pretty tame on Saturday mornings.  Old Leeds, Rex Lake, and Sicard Hollow are not going to be busy.

Nothing like the traffic we see on Tuesdays getting out to Ruffner.

Anyway, hope you can make it.

This....  and the guy derserves everything he gets based on the law if found guilty.

It's rather interesting all the publicity it's getting.  It's a tree for goodness sake.  There is plenty of other news worthy things besides a nut job killing a tree.

This is on the heels of other things that have happened recently in the rivalry   The Cam jersey on the Bryant statue, Auburn fans putting Rye Grass with 28-27 on our stadium, and vandalizing Saban's (head coach at Alabama) house in Georgia.  Poisening the tree was a bit over the top, but don't let them think that other things haven't happened before this.

The irony is all the trees that have been killed to roll the dang trees with toilet paper for 50+ years.  They are worried about 2 trees, when they have killed thousands with waste.

Don't get me wrong, dude should get in trouble and suffer the consequences, but it's getting blown WAY out of proportion.

It's a rivalry that's gotten a bit too serious.  When I was a kid, most of the fun was all poking, but too many people take it too seriously now on both sides.  Part of me wants the game to end and move on.  I don't think half the Alabama fans want to play them anymore.

Cam jersey and rye grass - hysterical.  Love that stuff.  The painting of the boat house was a bit over the top, but heck it is a coat of paint.  Easily reversible.

A 130 year old tree?  I couldn't care less about the symbolism - killing a majestic oak like that really does me off.

Funny thing heard on the radio this morning's talk show (not a sports show).  The comment was made that this guy would probably serve more time for killing two trees than killing a person.  Not such a bad prediction, IMO.

Blasphemy sir! Chapel Hill is the southern side of Heaven! Innocent

Got my 1st real brick of the year in today. 42 hard miles, 19 mph average, in the wind, 195w average. Then a 5k. Finished off the brick by tossing back a few Sweetwater Pilsners outside the pub. Weather was a little windy, but sunny and near 70. Magnificent!

Well, I'm back from a wonderful cruise.  What amazing weather to return to!  I'm excited to take my bike off the trainer and get outside tomorrow! I'm embarrassed to admit that I spent a good deal of time on this vacation looking at a pool with a drink in my hand rather than swimming (or running, or biking...) but I'm back and so excited to buckle down.  12 weeks until my 1/2 iron, and I can't wait.

As for Toomers corner, I'm a season ticket holding Auburn fan, and I'm devastated....How did I miss the "BAMA" in the title of this mentor thread??  I'm definitely a blonde.... Tongue out

I hear ya! Our morning ride started close to 50* and within 15mi I was pulling the sleeves off and getting warm! I do believe it warmed to 70ish within the 2hrs I was out! Yea, couldn't have gotten much better.

Except that I didn't have a whole lot of headwind. And I topped the bike out at 40mph today on one of the downhills! SCARY STUFF!!

The story made the news up here too.  Pretty crazy.  I went to UVA and the rivarily with VA Tech is pretty intense.  People have some some crazy stuff over the years.  One year the UVA band poured Round-up on the field while marching during the half time show at Tech so that a week later there was a big "UVA" burned into the field.  Stuff like that is funny because it grows back but killing a great tree like that is pretty low.

Did a 17 mile group ride tonight.  My first "group" ride ever.  I've always riden alone or with my husband.  It was going great until the guys in front of me stopped short, on a bridge.  I had water to my right and cars to my left.  I panicked, and tipped over.  Ugh.  Nothing major in the way of injuries, but my pride is pretty bruised.  Oh well.

Bama - we cruised the Carnival Dream - it was wonderful.  You'll love the Disney, I'm sure!!

I agree.  You don't find many Oaks like that any more.

First ride of the season is behind me.  Close to 40 miles (which isn't bad).  I would have died last year on a 40 mile ride, so I think I'm making some improvement (although small steps).

Sheep, Sand:  I hate I missed y'all.  I don't think the newbie that was with us on the ride this weekend would have lasted long with the tri group.  A couple more rides and they should be up to snuff.

And, my question for the day:  I have the Joule 2.0 head unit for my power meter.  We rode close to 40 miles, yet my head unit only showed 19 miles.  How does it calculate the mileage?  And where are the settings to adjust?

Also, how do you zero out the power meter?  I think I set it to Auto zero, but I couldn't find how to manual zero the power meter.

Does it have a separate speed/cadence sensor?  My powertap (with Garmin) doesn't calculate speed or distance so I had get a separate sensor for that.  Is joule trying to estimate speed/distance from the power meter?

Last group ride I did I tore up my tire because someone stopped short and I locked up rear wheel.  *shrug* I have mixed opinions on group rides.  Some times I get a great workout because I'm pushing myself harder then I would by myself.  Sometimes I feel like I'm just tooling along.  There is bike club at work that I ride with pretty regularly.  Overall I don't like the whole group but I've found a group of about 4 guys that I like riding with.  We generally ride together during the larger group rides.  You just need to figure out what works for you.

I'll freely admit that I'm asking as an excuse to brag a bit.  My swimming is only doing slightly better than biking but I'm very happy with my running.  I'm 4 weeks out from my half marathon and I've had a couple of really great runs, including a fantastic 12 mile run yesterday!

It was a good ride. Of course, there were some speed demons that dropped the hammer coming back on sicard hollow, but there were still us "back of the packers" that hung together.

I did hit 39mph on the downhill out by the Outlet Mall on 78. That was one scary feeling!!

Mine wasn't too crappy, but I may have overdone it a bit after the half. My right knee is really starting to hurt, especially when pushing on the uphills. It was slightly swollen last night and painful to the touch.

What really scares me is that it's on the same spot as my scar from my previous surgery (2003).

Yep.  Last time I did that ride in that direction I hit 41 on that downhill.  In fact, on that same ride there are some steep downhills on Sicard Hollow - I hit 46.5 on one of those.

Have to admit I like the 78 one better, though - a good 5 minute downhill.  You don't get those around here much.  Heck, I even like coming back up that hill.  I wish we had more sustained climbs like that.

Yes, my joule 2.0 is paired with my Garmin speed/cadence sensor.  I don't know where it's pulling the mileage data from, estimate on the power meter or from the speed/cadence sensor.  The cadence appears to be calculating correctly.  Maybe my settings are incorrect for my wheel or something, but it's measuring like 1/2 the distance.
