Not too shabby, but thoroughly sick of being a recluse.

Yuck.  Don't remind me on that one!!  St. Nick's is this week, E's birthday party is Saturday, her actual birthday is the 11th, and Christmas is 2 weeks later.  I'm not ready!

In interesting news, I discovered today that my little sis shares a birthday with Aaron Rodgers (the Green Bay quarterback). My family thought that was pretty cool.

Judi - are you around? I saw a post somewhere you wrote about how you gave up sugar and now even substitutes like Stevia...? Is that right and can you tell me more?

I guess i better explain why I have questions....

Im on my fourth week of meat-free eating, I have reduced my dairy down to just a bit of cheese or sour cream for flavour in meals... Im even having soy in my daily coffees!

My intake of junk is down to minimal, and sugar is down too except for things like baking (and coffee syrup but thats just been to adjust to the soy... Im hoping to drop it out)..

Almost all soda is out... although I have a ginger beer or lemonade maybe a couple of times a week, (no coke!) I also drink some organic apple juice and make my morning smoothie with coconut water... (no juice just fruit)

The thing is I thought you might be able to tell me what you did with the sugar? Im really curious.... as cutting out all dairy or all sugar (most in both cases I guess) but I'm kind of at a point where I dont know where to go next!!!!!!

PS: I should mention this is about my health... some aspects of my colitis have been much better without meat already AND if I eat something I shouldnt (like half a cheese pizza which I did last week) I am in pain with an upset tummy within 3-6 hours so usually know exactly what it is!

Oh and if anyone else has any tips let me know... Im not into processed food substitutes for stuff if possible and Ive noticed the US has a lot of things more available like 'vegan sour cream' which I just cant seem to find here... at least not anywhere near home!

Anyway my lovely Nibbs... any advice? x

I went gluten free for about 6 weeks 2 years ago.... it did NOTHING but Im almost 100% sure wheat is an issue in anything but small amounts like the dairy stuff...gluten itself is not so bad but I dont eat a HUGE amount these days any way

Hey Cat!

Yes, it's an evening run in Richmond to see the lights in the city.  Should be fun!  I just hope the weather cooperates cause the bad weather date is my husband's birthday.  I would be in the dog house if I took off for a run that night.

Sheesh, (hangs head in shame)

Cat, I just now saw your posts about sugar and sugar substitutes.  I gave up all sugar substitutes in the past year.  I never used real sugar in my coffee.....but at one point I used 2 packets of splenda or other sugar substitute in each cup.  The information I heard on the stuff wasn't good stuff so I started to wean myself off.  Was down to half a packet per cup for a long time.  Finally just stopped using it.  I don't use regular milk, I like the Silk brand light soy milk which still has some sugar in it but is less than the regular Silk.  So the coffee is sweet enough with just a splash of Silk.

If I stop in a Starbucks I do wind up using fake sweetener cause it tends to be stronger.

I don't bake a lot because it is a HUGE temptation to eat cookies and stuff when stressed.  However, my daughter and exchange student do like to bake and there is real sugar on hand for them.

I'm trying to eat cleaner with less additives in general which is a lot of effort.

My daughter has a friend who had a lot of health problems last year and in the process stopped eating meat cause it upset her system.  She does a lot better as vegetarian than she was doing before.

Adapting your diet to keep the colitis at bay sounds like a good plan, jut a whole lot of work sorting out what works and what doesn't.

I am sad.

"The last batch of Twinkies and other Hostess products was sold to a company in Chicago.... Jewel-Osco, a Chicago-based chain, bought more than 20,000 boxes of Twinkies and 5,000 boxes of other Hostess products, clearing out the entire last batch of Hostess products.... Hostess is currently going out of business after years of struggling with labor issues and failing to being in sufficient revenue."

Then again, Tinky can't call me a Twinkie anymore.

I guess that means no more Ho Ho's either.  I liked those way better than Twinkies.

And did Cat ever get to try a Twinkie?
