QUESTION FOR THE SOBERS: What's the most amusing way to turn down offered drinks without telling folks you are abstaining? I just tell people "no, thank you anyway" but that is getting boring. I'd like to have some fun with it.

Thanks, but I just snorted a load of model airplane glue and I don't like to mix the two

Oh come on... everyone knows they mix well....

Oh, so I'm the only one?

"No thanks.  Whenever I drink I break out in handcuffs."  Or "No thanks.  There's not enough here for me and everyone else and I dont want to be selfish."

I realize it's boring, but actually all I ever say is "no thanks". I have never been in a situation where that was insufficient.

Although, a group of us went out for dinner to celebrate a anniversary. We were at a mexican restaurant and the waiter heard it was a birthday... so he brought out a free shot of tequila for the birthday girl. It was funny.

It always amazed me how much free stuff was shoved in your face after you quit. Where was all that stuff before? Smile

I am happy and proud to say I have been sober for 20 days.  After (finally) hitting rock bottom I have begun the climb out.  I have a lot of support from friends and family and I am looking forward to getting my 30 chip from my home AA meeting.  But I have to make it there first.  So, I'll focus on staying sober today.

That's great Erica! I remember that 30 day chip like it was yesterday. It seemed for me to be like that first month was a year long! Keep it up. Just heard from my cousin who has 120 days now.

These 20 days have been a real learning experience.  The first 10 or so were physically difficult and the last 10 have been mentally tough.  But each day I feel better and I am realizing how much of an impact my drinking had on everyone around me.  I have a lot of work to do but I am thankful for my sobriety and look forward to each day.

That's all I've got.  Thanks.

Right on.  I heard something once.  A guy said, "I have 14 years of sobriety, and the longest i've ever had to go without a drink is 24 hours"....

Hey, you can't rush into these things, ya know.

Congrats, Tyler! (yes, I'm saying this 11 years too early, but I'm booked that day, so doing it in advance).

Congrtas on your 15 years. It truly is amazing the longer I'm sober the more it just becomes about 1 day at a time.

Got my 1 month coin tonight!

To be honest though, I am struggling.  I feel myself wanting to isolate myself and I'm having a very hard time making myself do anything.  But I keep telling myself that drinking will only make those feelings worse.

I can't imagine how you are feeling, but I'm fairly certain you'll feel far worse once you realized you've got to start all over again.
