It's a warm, rainy day in Northern IL!  Going to be a wet (but fun) run this evening!  Overnight temps are supposed to drop 40 degrees with threat of a big snow tomorrow.  I love training in the midwest.  Laughing

Was hoping to meet up with my running group and enjoy the weather, but wound up getting to the pool late and not getting done in time. Good day though. Swim was endurance workout, 2300m with main set 2x750. 1 hour run. I'm hungry

I hear you on the hunger; ate approximately 40 meals today.

Just got the powermeter; tomorrow is my first trip down trainer road.  Unfortunately, the numbers won't lie!

Morning, LP peeps...hope everyone has a good day of training.  I was on the bike for a little over an hour this morning.  Short run for the evening...chance of 5-8" of snow to fall during the day.  Could be a pretty run through the snow!

Happy training, my friends!

Braved the treadmill this morning. Silly really as its meant to get crazy warm here today (50's), but at 5 this am it was just starting to thaw and the roads were super slippery. Getting it in and done early means I can crash a strength class tonight - good stuff!Happy training :-)

Finally starting to get my swim to come around.  For the month, I'm a little under 18,000 meters and today did 31x100 short course meters.  The best signal that the fitness is coming, the average time for each 100 hovered pretty consistently within a second to second and a half of each other.

Now, if I could just figure out how to bike and run everything will work out fine.

Swim? What's that?!

Off day for me today as I have school till 10:30 pm. Just as well cause its ridiculously windy here today.

Anyone use trainer road? I'm having a hard time figuring EXACTLY what I need to run it. Can I use it with my Garmin cadence sensor etc? I'm SO not techy.

TR is the the bomb.

You need to have an ANT+ usb stick for your computer and your HR monitor and cadence/speed sensor need to chat with it.

The program will talk to the ANT+ to retrieve the information from those other devices.

What model Garmin do you have?

I think your fine, honestly.  Because TR doesn't talk to your Garmin.  The ANT+ talks to the sensor and HRM.

Yup, you plug the ant+ stick into your computer. I use a laptop and connect it via HDMI to the big TV so I can watch videos while collecting and monitoring the TR data.

Holy Toto, we had 50 mph winds today. 8.3 miles on the treadmill at close to tempo pace and 30 mins on the bike. My son has the flu so very early swim tomorrow and work from home. I hope I don't get sick.

Had some pretty decent gusts in Maryland but our running group took advantage by doing a speed workout on the track against the wind.  Made for a pretty tough work out (did 5 miles + 2 miles with WU/CD).

Had a major breakthrough in my swim today.  Got in 4000 meters and felt great.  It was just one of those days you get in the pool and feel great.

Hello All,

I've been secretly stalking the forum for the past couple of months and thought I would introduce myself.  I am a newbie to endurance sports (one sprint tri, one duathlon, and one half marathon) but signed up for Ironman Lake Placid.

I chose to sign up for an Ironman after I had a procedure completed to fix two heart conditions, SVT and A-Fib.  Once my doctors cleared me for activity, I wanted to test what my body can do and nothing will challenge me more then the Ironman.  I chose Lake Placid because I am originally from Syracuse and have a very big family in upstate New York.

I am currently following the Trifuel training program and am on Week 11.  I like the program and it is plenty challenging.  I am not a runner at all and it is really pushing me in this sport.  After reading the forum I bought Don Fink's book so I can possibly hybrid my training plan.

My first of many questions is since I have no race experience, how much should I plan to race and what distance before the Ironman?

My current plans are:

April 7th - Half Marathon (St. Louis GO!)

May  5th - Olympic Tri (I havent found one yet)

June 1st - Half Ironman (Toughman Half, Richmond IN)

July 28th - LAKE PLACID

Do you think I should plan more or less races? Possibly sprint tri's just so I can learn transitions etc.  I am very nervous for the swim so I would like to get more open water race swimming experience.  I'm 25 and on a tight budget so I don't plan on traveling too far for any races other then the big one.

Thanks!!

I think that is plenty of racing.  For skills, you can set up a transition in your backyard or at your favorite open water swim site.

The races will give you a sense of how you deal with breakfast, nerves of the start line, and the confidence that when something goes wrong you can deal with it and keep moving forward.  You can master nutrition during long workouts.  Too many races and you could overthink Lake Placid.

Hi everyone...changed my 2014 IM plans to IMLP and signed up to volunteer for 2013 just yesterday. I just booked Edelweiss Motel on Wilmington towards the bottom of Mirror Lake.  They have ZERO on line presence so I was wondering:

1) how is this location (was told it was 10 min from start/finish)

2) as we're only volunteering, we're making this a little anniversary trip for ourselves. With that being said, is there a lot to do in the LP village?

Any info is greatly appreciated. Look forward to cheering you all on as you race this summer!

Wilmington and Mirror Lake are a fair distance apart by road - 10 miles. Check the street address on Google maps to get a location. There are two German named motels at the entrance to Lake Placid on 86. The locations are within walking distance of the swim start and Oval and both are 1950 to 60 vintage. They are both Mom and Pop establishments and rustic. If your hotel is in Wilmington, no worries, I drive from Jay on race day. Get a local paper and it will have all the road closures and how to get around by car.
Lake Placid has plenty to do but it will be crowded for the race. I would try the golf course patio for a lunch - great view and the price is not too bad. Plenty of pubs and places to eat plus shopping on main street and the GAP with 50% off sales. I have all women in my family so I know them well. You also have hiking trails that run through the Village, and close by, plus all the Winter Game venues from the 80s.
