Chips ahoy......

The 1960s and early 1970s Chips Ahoy bags featured comic strips of Cookie Man, a superhero character who subdued various cookie-devouring creatures such as Fruit Fly or Big Wig. His alter-ego was named Mort Meek, who was always seen "counting the 16 chips" in his Chips Ahoy cookie when he was attacked by one of the creatures, at which point he slipped into a phone booth, locker room, restroom, etc., to become Cookie Man and finish off the villain in a Clark KentSuperman vein. These characters were also the subject of Chips Ahoy's concurrent TV commercial campaign, and were both played by the same actor.

But where'd the name come from ...  Charles Dickens?  Really?

Name

Nabisco says the name is "a reference to the nautical term, Ships Ahoy!" The words "Chips Ahoy!" also feature prominently in a story appearing in Chapter 15 of The Uncommercial Traveller, by Charles Dickens. [1]. Dickens relays a childhood tale of a shipwright named Chips who is taunted by a diabolical talking rat who predicts the sinking of Chips' ship: "Chips ahoy! Old boy! We've pretty well eat them too, and we'll drown the crew, and will eat them too!" There is also a 1956 American animated theatrical short titled Chips Ahoy.[2]

Now we are all smarter!

The hardest part of this whole new peleo thing.  It's not the cravings.  I don't usually have issues with that.  It's just breaking the habit of grabbing something quick to snack on.  The usualy stuff.  Like a bag of chips or candy bar.  I find myself reaching, then having to check myself.  Once I get out of the unconsious grabbing the crap, I will be good.

My Dad is having that very same issue - he is trying to lose 20lbs or so. Mom says "he does so great at breakfast and lunch, but then gets home from work and eats half a bag of chips" -

I immediately said "so stop buying chips??"

Now my mom is a smart cookie but she was like "hmm I guess I could do that". But she is a total people pleaser so will probably continue to buy the chips to make my dad happy... crazy.

I have the same bad habits, especially at places like my parents who stock every kind of chip ever made. And there is ALWAYS some kind of candy since my mom is diabetic and needs to have quick sugar options available. Habits are hard to break!!
