Cleaning offices and shared areas getting ready for the kicking-out move.

We filled 6 industrial trash cans in 2 hours. Why do people feel like they have to KEEP EVERYTHING?! Seriously we found stuff from the 80s, 90s, and that wasn't even our "archives." Multiple copies, drawers and drawers and drawers of crap.

The best was 2 boxes of floppy disks in our office supply cabinet - each disk holds a whopping 1.44MG... !

OMG you didn't throw those away did you????  Those will be in a museum some day missy!!

 Laughing

Probably already are. Mid 80s I think for that sort of capacity. I was in school.

Elementary, middle school, high school or college?

College.

Whew! I was afraid you were going to say elementary then I would feel old again.

I never said I wasn't a child genius who went to college aged 8. Then again I wasn't so you're safe.

Well not exactly safe since you are probably only a year of so older than me if at all.

Nah, these were still widely used in the early 2000's.

Mid-80's were the gigantic 8" floppies (not even the 5-1/4").

For sure that stuff was still around but sometime in the 80's I'm pretty sure 3 1/2" discs appeared.

I can't remember exactly when but I do think your right that the 3 1/2" were around in at least the late 80s.

I don't remember the 3.5" drives that early.

Come to think of it, mid-80's was 5-1/4" drives, because I had one on my C-64, and the TRS-80's at school had them, too.

@Kido - I do remember the hole punch trick, hehe... that's cool. I'd completely forgotten about that.  As for tape recorder storage... I remember playing 'Bedlam', a text-based adventure game, on the TRS-80 loaded from a cassette. That was 7th or 8th grade, I think?

Wow, I really feel old now.

Yeah, I didn't want to question since my memory may not be that sharp.  I remember the tape drives to 5 1/4 then 3.5...

3.5's were AMAZING since they held 1.44 mb and the good games needed TEN of them!  The 5 1/2 was like 520 bites.

People would be out of their heads now with these gigabit games.  If you told them you need a THOUSAND 3.5 to load a game, their head would explode.

Yep, I played word adventure games on the TSR-80.

I just missed the punch card days.

I heard the other day that there is ridiculous amount more computing power in your smart phone than what they had to put a man on the moon.

Crazy, I think I almost remember 83 for that.  If I had to guess on a trivial pursuit question, I would have said 83.  Mostly because that the new thing we used in my freshman computer class.

I still have stuff on some old 3.5's at home.  Computers obviously don't even come with a 3.5 anymore, BUT, they do have a bay for them so they are not completely eliminated.

Kido - 2013-01-18 2:25 PM anyone remember the sierra games?  Leisure Suit Larry, Space Quest, etc?

I remember Leisure Suit Larry in The Land of The Lounge Lizards!  And there was Castle something or other I can't remember but it was one of the early Doom type games.

Heck yeah!

I heard last week that someone is working on updating/remaking Leisure Suit Larry.

Nice...  I was a Space Quest fan.  Loved them.  Roger Wilco and all that.

Me and my friend would play and when we would figure out a puzzle that was holding us up, we would just jump up and cheer and hi five.

I have them...    BUT, they don't load up well on the new systems.  Mostly sound issues...

I wonder if you can just play them online?  I know you can play the OLD word ones for free online like Zork, etc.

Doom was somewhere around 16 3.5 disks.

There's a classic! I've got a career because of that game.

It was the first game I ever played that supported network play.... so, I learned networking so that my brother and I could play against each other on a coax cable LAN. If it wasn't for Doom, I probably would have never bothered to learn networking.
