This is such an exciting weekend. I can't wait to hear how Mitzi is doing. I bet her kids are going to be very proud of her.

Samantha - nothing more to say. I will be stalking you!

I had a hard 5 1/2 miles this morn. It was very hot and I am not acclimated at all. stated at 8:30's ended with 8:50's with a walk break in there as well...
going to do my first trail run since i broke my foot. 11 miles with 1500 feet of climbing. Going to be slow but I just love the trails...

So last night I pressed hard on a swim TT 1000 yards and improved 36 seconds over 2 weeks ago so 18:47 (1:53 /100 +/-) then I limped through the next 1600 yards of my workout with noodle arms. Couldn't increase the speed at all just did 100 yards, then 50 yards was almost down to 25 yard sets, but got it done.

So I was happy that the diaper rash cream had my backside feeling better for the bike ride today. I spent 5 hours getting the bike ready for long outdoor trecks, everything was wrong. Why do they not standardize how seats are supported as they attach to the bike. So ya aero bars 2.5 cm too close together to fit my aero bottle, not enough room for the neverreach tube between the speedometer and the aero pads, needed to move the pads, move the bars, then the Velcro needed to be trimmed.... changed out the trainer tire to road tire (under 8:00 including inflation), then the bike pump doesn't fit as the waterbottle holder is on the slanted tube instead of the verticle tube..... Well did eventually get out the door, 82F mild breeze 10 mph ish. Yes I stopped after 1 hour to eat half a pbj and then every half hour after that to take in calories and get in a brief stretch. Verry tapped out, but got it done. There wasn't any speed expectation, just cover the distance. I went through 100 oz of water (20oz/hour give or take) and had 28 oz left when I got home. Yes I do carry 128 oz of water on my bike all at once. In 80 miles I did not pass one store, rest area, etc., that would have water to buy or fill up etc.

Thanks for the number Samantha now we can stalk er follow your progress. I think you are fine on the swim and bike, the knee is the only thing for the run and it will be what it will be. The emotions you are running through are all normal, search BT threads for am I ready for my IM and read to your heart's content, or maybe just be content that you can't change anything at this point other than to eat well and get as good a night's sleep as you can. Isn't amazing how many little things go into a race. Remember to bring your pump if you dropped your bike off the night before.

I just went on a crazy 10 mile trail run. 2500 feet of climbing. Used to be one of my normal routes and I forgot how fit I used to be! As i was climbing a mountain wanting to stop I kept thinking of Samantha out there on that IM course. It really kept me going knowing that this monstrous run is NOTHING compared to what's going on out there!

Great job so far. tracking her is very cool! She's doing great!!!

Samantha!! Go Girl Go!!!

Mitzi!!

I did a 40 mile bike, first bike in about 3 months! Felt pretty good considering. I stopped to help a guy who was on his second flat of the day and ran out of CO2 (I really love my Gatorskins, haven't flatted since Vineman). Rode with him for a while, but couldn't stay with him on a climb!

I signed up for Oceanside 70.3!! Very excited to be able to go back and claim my finisher's medal!! Trying to get Mitch to do it with me, come on buddy, you know you want to!!

There are some new faces here and I look forward to conversing with you, I will repost my bio this week!

Happy training all

Jim

You should have seen the look on my wife's face when I mentioned that Jim signed up for Oceanside! She looked at me and said.. "does that mean you're thinking of doing it? you do remember that I am 6 months pregnant???" My response was "it's only a half... no biggie" her response... silence for the rest of the night. I may have to wait 'till end of next year... Happy wife, Happy life...

Go Samantha Go, right on target for paces. She was 3 min ahead on the swim and right on pace for the bike. If she can keep that up she will have pleanty of cushion for the run.

11 miles for me today, I added some trail run with some hills and ugly footing which tired me out a bit.

Last week to get some solid workouts in for our monthly mileage checkin!

Gona go check on Samantha now.

Last split listed for Samantha has her through 70 miles on the bike at about 5 hours, total elapsed race time of 6:21:23. Pace @ 15 MPH. That puts her around a 8/8.5 hour bike, total of 10 hours for the swim/bike. Leaves more than 7 hours for the marathon. Go Samantha!

So Jim, I take it you are not a newbe!

Great to hear about everyone's trainings. Hate to mention my race with Sam out there. So happy for her.

I did OK, not as good as I would have liked. Did swim the whole 400 yds - that was my biggest fear. Kept looking for the buoy and thinking I wasn't getting any closer, but then put my head down and thought "it's only a few more laps - I can do that!" Wasn't last out of water. Went nice and slow and felt good when I got out - enough to run a ways on the beach to get to T1.
Passed some people on the bike - felt great. Then came T2. Legs didn't feel too bad but I wasn't prepared for the run.

Had to pee and made the mistake of taking a bathroom break. It is nearly impossible to get a wet trisuit back on! Ran out still pulling it on, but must have lost 5 mins.
The course was a sandy trail run - sand and tree roots; sand and horse poop; sand and wood chips; sand and more sand and too many hills for my training. Did I mention the sand?
Then I was so dry I drank a lot of water at the beginning and at mile 1. So you all know what happened next - got a nasty cramp and walked a ways which I did not intend to do.

Have to figure out my time. I think it was 1:52 which doesn't make sense as that was my time 7 years ago when I backstroked the swim, struggled on the bike and walked most of the run. WTH!

It's all good - the race was supper well organized, people could not have been nicer - I came running in with tons of oly finishers - it was obvious who was who and each one of them said something encouraging as they passed me.

I'm not crazy and about racing, but am looking forward to kicking my a** at the gym and increasing my training!

I'm going to write to the race director of my next race and ask if I can switch my oly to the sprint. I think it will take everything I've got in the next 7 weeks to get to a sprint time I can be proud of. I've got to go for quality. Maybe an oly will have to wait for next summer.

Thank you all, it is the people of this sport that really makes it what it is!

Sam is such a role model - I'm really proud of how she is doing!

Yay, Mitzi!!!!!!! We are so proud of you. Congratulations on not only showing up at the start line (when there are so many people who will never do that) but also for finishing in such a great time. Yea, those trisuits are a beotche to slide up, down, or anywhere with moisture. So proud of you and for you. So glad that you reported in now and I know that Samanatha is going to be thrilled when she checks back in to see that you had such a great race. We have some awesome athletes in our group.

Hey, Mitzi -- Congratulations, TRIATHLETE!!!!

WAY TO GO!!! NEVER QUIT!!!

SO happy for you. And that you're already planning the next race is a good sign.

Before you know it, you'll be looking at carbon bikes..... its a slippery slope!

Sounds like you had a great group to race with today.

Haven't seen a split update on the bike, but it appears the last 'split' distance is 40+ miles. Can't wait to see how our girl is doing @ IMCDA!!

Mitzi, congratulations!!!

Bio:

NAME: ironjim/Jim

STORY: I'm 48, and started doing triathlons almost 20 years ago! I was a firefighter in the Navy for 6 years now I am a chiropractor!  I got out of the Navy to finish college and was planning on going back in as an officer, but I lived on Venice Beach, ran a restaurant in Santa Monica and loved the California lifestyle so I declined going back in! I met my wife in LA and we eventually got married and decided to move to the Pac NW, where she was from. I loved many things about the NW, but the weather was not one of them! I got very depressed and put on a ton of weight, I topped the scales at over 320. We moved back to California back in 2007 and I started a new practice. A couple years later a good friend of mine (Mitch) that I used to run a restaurant with found me on Facebook and while we were talking he said his dream is to do Ironman! I said then set a goal and do it. He said "do it with me". It was over 5 years since I'd done a triathlon but I was really not ready to have triathlons be something that I used do! SO we got started. It was magical! We were so for tat with our training. If Mitch ran 10 miles, you could guarantee I was going to run 11, and vice versa! Our Ironman was the Vineman Full. This was Mitch's first triathlon ever and he did it! I met my demise on the marathon. I finished 2 of the 3 loops but could not even walk another step without pain, come to find out I had a stress fx in my foot.

FAMILY STATUS: Married for 15 years, 2 kids - my son~ 13 and my daughter~ 10. Two dogs (Ausiie/Yorkie Terrier and a Maltipoo) that love running with me.

CURRENT TRAINING:  Training has been inconsistent this year due to illnesses

THIS YEAR'S RACES: Registered for Vineman Full (will not be able to do), Canyonman 70.3, HITS Full (not sure if I can get ready for it in time)

WEIGHTLOSS: Down 60 pounds since I moved back to Cali, but still a ways to go!!

GOALS:  To get weight down to 185 and to finish an Ironman distance race with a big smile on my face!!

Wooohoooo!!!!! Way to go Mitzi! So happy to read about your race. Sounds like the swim and bike went really well for you. I know exactly what you mean about the buoy not getting any closer. So glad you had a good experience and already thinking about training for that next race. Wait, did you say something about sand ?

I just stalked Samantha, and see that she is on the run. 11:08 total time with 6.6 miles of the run down. Gooooo Samantha!
