But yeah, looks like my Challenge theme will be going up for November. I really like the points based challenge idea too. It would be great if we do that one next Spring. Dee |

This board is quiet. But two other team threads are definitely not! The conversation is FLYING in both the Bumpers team and the TAN team. In fact, they're talking about one another, and posting some, um, "inspirational" pictures. There are several pics that feature legs - of an unnamed male, who is rumored to be on one of the teams. Whoops. I just got caught out, eh? Anyway, yeah. They've been posting. A lot. And not necessarily about Running. LOL Dee |

It was about 78 F here today. No snow. I completely understand the yakking issue. Work does get in the way, doesn't it? Or does BT.com get in the way? ---> I was planning on doing a brick today. Then I got sidetracked by BT.com. Got online, and stayed online. But some of the team threads make for hysterical reading. |

Dee I too like the points based challenge and agree that next year would be better for that one when we are all back to straight training for TRI's vs mary's & 1/2 marys, 10 & 5K's. You'll do great Dee being the organizer of the challenge. I'm sure that Cat will give you a lot of pointers. |

Expert 973 Berkeley, Calif. | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Haha, I stay on all day at work. The good thing is that for once, my work and BT are actually on the same page! For reals. I'm writing an article about endurance athletes! Ha! (FYI, I'm a newspaper reporter. I love it when I get to write about topics I'm actually really interested in.) So it dawns on me that I know hardly anything about any of you guys. That's no good, you're my team! So...tell me when and why you started coming to BT. My answer is lame: I can't actually remember. And it wasn't even that long ago, maybe March? I *think* I was Googling triathlon training plans and the 13-week sprint plan came up and led me here, but I can't be sure of that. |

I joined in mid-August. I did a google search for something swimming related. (Can't remember what. Aqua Sphere Seal Masks, probably. Because that's when mine started to leak.) BT.com came up on the search. So I ended up here.... Started reading the site, and ended up staying. Now, they can't get rid of me. Dee |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Hrm, I started training for Triathlons .. 8 weeks ago because I ran out of windmills er dragons to slay. I don't want to get promoted to the next level of my job, things are fine there, chaotic but fine, I have been married for 18 years and well things are fine there, have 5 kids and well they are chaotic, but fine there (haven't had to patch any holes in the walls for a while now), have pretty much become bored with most movies, don't even have cable TV, yard is fine, there are grass and trees, am losing interest in the Massive Multiplayer RPGS, beat Everquest, etc. The work, eat, come home .. nothing to do thing wasn't cutting it. I needed something to work for. (minor considerations, turned 40, put on more weight than I was comfortable with over the past 15 years, too cheap to buy new clothes, too young to just accept being fat and dig in...) So... what's left. I am not musically inclined so well no obsession into learning an instument, not artistically inclined so no art studio thing gona happen. I'm not rich so touring the world partying for a few decads is probably not an option. There are no recreation, entertainment, or sports activities where I live so not much potential there. There are not a lot of people near where I live that are into well... anything, so social buterfly activities are limited. The existential question of, "where do we find meaning" as in Erickson's stages of development where there is a tension between stagnation and generativity and in all of existential philosophy of having a purpose versus just about life from the sideliness reared its ugly head in my life. Having obtained an education, a job that meets my needs and the needs of my family, having a stable marriage with 5 kids, having purchased a house, .... all the big challenges were pretty much taken care of. So, now what? Well, find something of personal challenge and interest and strive to master it. We have lots of space.... so as far as challenging single person sports go running, biking work (and ... well still working on the swiming part). I can bike in 90 + miles in any direction without running into a stoplight, and without finding smoothe pavement or a bikelane, but oh well. There are of course other challenges such as spiritual, family, financial, etc. that remain a permanent challenge, but it's hard to come home from work and say I am going to go work on my family for 2 hours and then go to bed. Those challenges are more long term, less tangible and more diffuse in how they bring meaning and how progress is made, or not made. And well, that's all I have to say about that. P.S. Of course, I won't say how many hours I was on this morning before heading off to work. And yeah, if it's your lunch time it's okay. but I guess it depends on your company. |

Champion 23360 Taser-World | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Baowolf - 2007-10-18 3:35 PM Well, you could always go back and get a degree in the physical sciences. We don't go for deep thinking. We just burn stuff. (I suppose we could make things explode too, but the lab is relatively new and we need it to last a few more years. Plus, I really enjoy having all ten fingers....) Now, if you REALLY want to have fun, take a scale into a tall building with an an elevator. Go to the top floor. Step on the scale and hit the button for the first floor. Voila! Instant weight loss! (At least for as long as the elevator is moving....) I am amazed at the thought of going 90+ miles in any direction and not encountering a stoplight. That makes me realize that even though I *think* I live "in the sticks," I don't really..... Based upon your description of your neighborhood, do you even HAVE a tall building with an elevator? I think we need to post more deep questions on this forum. Now, everyone repeat after me, "Math is fun!" Dee |
