BUMP

Didn't get much done this weekend.  Horrible weather in Boise.  Looking at nicer weather in the coming days.  I HATE spring in Idaho.

So I've been neglecting the internet lately but I'm back today!  I've been pretty poor about filling in my training log, it is on my list of things to open up daily this week.  Running have been great, the weather here has been so so wonderful!  Tomorrow it is supposed to be between 70 - 75 so I'm thinking of finally breaking out the bike after work.

I just completed 4 miles, now time to shower make dinner and watch the season finale of The Walking Dead.  What will I do with out my zombie show?  I guess I'll have to get by until the last season on True Blood comes out of DVD.  Hello Sookie!

So it's spring break week, which means my schedule is all messed up. I got a 5 mile run in tonight, got home about 8:30. Here it is quarter to 12, and I am still jacked up from the run. I have no idea how you who run in the evening ever get any sleep!

Heh.  I'm a True Blood junkie.  I spent a lot of hours on the trainer this winter watching sexy vampire drama.  Certainly took the mind off the pain in my legs.

Man...how'd y'all end up with the crummy weather.  Usually, Indiana is a cold, wet mess in March and April.  This year...it's like Florida up in here.  Crazy hot and sunny every day.  If it's 80* in May what do we have in store for August?  I'm thinking 100* temps and 100% humidity.  Should be lovely.

Eventually your body gets used to the late workouts.  I work a 12 hour shift.  I get up at 430 in the morning to get showered and fed and make it to work by 545.  I usually make it back home by 630 in the evening.  I feed all the pets and do some other small daily chores before I head out for a run.  I'm to the point where I can be showered, fed, and in bed within an hour of getting back from my run.  Head hits the pillow and I'm out like a light.

More spring break craziness today!  The Hubby took the day off and we drove down to Chattanooga to visit the aquarium.  I got up early and realized I was out of coffee creamer, DH needed diet coke, and I needed to feed the boys breakfast before we left.  So I grabbed my backpack and literally ran down to Publix for supplies - It's 4 miles round trip.  I enjoyed confusing the the bag boy when I said I didn't have a car for him to carry my bag to, and I started loading the backpack for return trip.

I'm a true blood junkie too!!!! Can't wait for the new season to start! Love the books! Having a little trouble adjusting to the high 70's to 80 degree weather we are having the last 1 1/2 weeks. Lungs are really burning for my runs. Think it might be the allergies to trees as they are all budding. On a better note the weather is going to return to normal tomorrow (50's) just in time for my 5km race on Sunday! Fingers crossed the rain stays away though!

Heh.  I have a half-mary coming up in May.  Usually it's in the 50s which is perfect weather for racing.  I'm afraid that it's going to be hotter than hades this year.  I don't usually wish for cold weather but on race day I want nothing but cool and overcast!

Have a fast and fun race on Sunday!  Let us know how it goes!

Happy Friday!

Boise weather looks promising for the weekend.  Got a long road ride Sat.,  and long trail run Sun.  scheduled, but I'm feeling froggy, so I may turn those into brick workouts.

My NCAA brackets are toast, so I have alot of free time this weekend.

ENJOY!

Wow...feel like I've missed bunches! Took a week off for spring break and I had NO Internet for 7 full days. Loved it, but a little scary too. Skiied my booty off the last week and made it home last night around 11...missed my training more than I thought I would. Can't wait to get back to normal routines today! My PF didn't seem to be too bothersome on the slopes...but I stretched both before and after each day. In fact, it isn't really bothering me at all...but, I didn't run all week. So, we'll see how today goes!I'm a Trubie too...team bill though. Will most definitely schedule time to see The Hunger Games today....Have a great Sunday, Funday!Tammy

Way to go Annemarie!  Its early in the season...plenty of time to reach your goals!  The weather took its toll on me today during my run...I couldn't believe how warm it was...at 5pm!

Keep up the great work!

KatNWater - 2012-03-16 6:51 PM Dawn - I don't really have anything productive to say about the Rev 3 series.  Except that Rev 3 Knoxville half was on my list for this year.  Then I remembered I grew up in East TN, and there is not one single stretch of flat area in Knoxville, and with my struggle to climb, I would have been walking the bike more than riding it, so I scrapped that idea

Kat - I started to sign up for this race and I still might...I graduated from UT - and I was probably in the best shape of my life when I was running all over Knoxville!  I am not too sure about biking "clipped" in...the idea of that scares me on the hills - where I might have to jump off and push a bit.

Another Marathon Monday here.  I did pump class, then a 8 mile tempo run.  Ate lunch and cleaned the house - then I managed to sneak in a quick 8 mile bike ride - LOVING the weather!.  Cooked dinner and attended the last strip tease aerobics class Embarassed until September.  I didn't want to miss it.

Now before everyone thinks the wrong thing, the class is at the gym.  We remain fully clothed the entire time.  I enjoy it because it lets me live out my inner SMASH wannabe.  They break down the dance, and it's like learning a Broadway production. Minus the singing, which is good, I sing worse than I dance

Sorry to be MIA for a few days, gang.  I took a short vacation with the hubby and the Kindle fire was not cooperative.  For some reason it wouldn't let me type in the text box to write up a post.  I'll have to do a little research to see if I can figure out the problem - I'm guessing it's a flash/java thing.  Anyhow...I'm back in Indiana and looking forward to getting back to my running routine.

I started reading The Hunger Games while on vacation.  The first book was on sale in the Kindle store for just $5 so I figured I'd give it a go and see what all the fuss is about.  I truly didn't expect to like it as much as I do but it sucked me right in.  I'm halfway through the 2nd book already.  I guess I know how I'll be spend the rest of my free time on my days off!

goonies - I got a couple of training questions for you...

First, I picked up a spontaneous tri for this Sunday.  It is a mini sprint with a 300 yd swim, a 10 mile bike, and a 3.14 mile run.  (The tri is sponsored by Alpha Delta PI - hahahaha)  Anyway, I am approaching it as a hard training day.  So the question is - do I go out hard and hammer the whole thing - and hope for maybe an AG top 3?  Or do I treat it as a dress rehearsal for the HIM?

If I go to try to compete I would wear my one piece tri suit, and I would really try to optimize my transitions.  I also would start the run about 30 sec below 5K pace, and pick it up to 5K pace at mile 2.

If I go with a dress rehearsal, I would wear my 2 piece tri suit.  I would practice taking nutrition during transitions.  I would test out putting on the compression socks before the run, and I would practice a nice slow 11 m/m first mile since I tend to have a hard time reigning in the speed just off the bike.

To help with the decision, I don't really think I could get top 3, but part of me really wants to know where I would place if I go all out. I also picked up the race because it would be a great warm up for the HIM - so conflicted!

In other training help - I have declared next week - Bike Week.  The more time in the saddle I get, the better the bike is getting.  I did a 35 miler yesterday that I got done with and knew I could do it again, then run a half marathon - which is good, seeing as how I will have to do that in 6 short weeks.  I was hoping for a 40 miler today, but small child with horrible growing pains in his legs warranted a day off for both of us.  So back to bike week.  I have roughly 3 - 4 hours per day that I can train in.  I have planned 3 3-4 hr long rides at a comfortable pace.  1 day of hitting hills until I want to cry and 1 day 1 hour hard riding.  To ambitious? Should I plan on 2 long rides and 1 medium ride at a comfortable pace?  Should I try to throw in any running or swimming?

off to update my BT log - since that might help in getting advice.

THANKS!

And now that I have filled in my BT log, panic sets in!  That doesn't look nearly as hard as I thought I was going.  It was much more impressive (to me) jotted down in a little notebook and in the memory of my watch.  EEEKKKK!!!!  6 1/2 weeks - I have a little time to make up a little fitness.  I will never underestimate this distance again....

It's been cold, wet, dark and gloomy for days now.  I've done nothing since Monday except eat badly.

That's all I got.  How's YOUR day going?

Jeff - I hate rain and gloom too. And it affects me so badly that after about 3 or 4 days of it I have to go to the tanning bed. I know, I know - it's terrible for me. But if I don't get some sunlight, even artificial sunlight, I will start to go crdazy. And that is probablly litteral.

I should tan, too.  I'm pretty pasty right now.  I've got one of those S.A.D.  (seasonal affective disorder) lights, but it requires you to sit in front of it for 30 minutes.  Hell, I can barely sit anywhere for 30 minutes.

I did have a totally freakin' awsome workout yesterday, so I'm happy about that.

On an unrelated note....For those of you who have read the book, "Born to Run", you'll be saddened to know that Micha True aka Caballo Blanco has been missing since Tuesday in the New Mexico deserts.  SAR teams are on-scene, but so far no success.  Dressed only in running shorts and tshirt, he is ill equiped to handle the freezing night time temps.    Good Luck, Positive Kharma and God Speed to those helping with the search efforts.

Just going to add another vote for go hard.  It will be a solid check of where your fitness stands.  If you want to do a dress rehersal for the HIM I would actually just do it as part of a long training day.  You can do 3-4 mile run after your long bike ride to test out your pacing and nutrition.

As far as a big volume bike week - you can get away with a big jump in volume but I would be careful about such a huge week.  You can get overuse injuries from cycling.  If you want to do 5 days of riding I would suggest you limit either the intensity or the total volume.  For example - do 3 rides in the 25-30 mile range, 1 hill or interval ride, and 1 long ride.  You can add a longer stretch of harder riding during one of the 25-30 milers.  Let me take a look at your logs and see if I can offer any advice based on your current training.
