Champion 6107 Out running or enjoying a fine glass of red... | Subject: RE: Brian and the Tri Tarts Group - Full zipp1 - 2008-04-17 5:43 PM My question--Am I crazy if I consider signing up for a 1 mile river swim in June to help me over my OWS phobia? My goal would be to finish without hanging on a kayak. Yes. Oh, well - go for it anyway. We're all a little crazy. |

No worries about being physically able to. Nice chance to get some OWS with the safety of a supported race. Do you get a T-shirt? Yeah, it's the whole OWS panic thing. I'm serious. I hit the real water and all I know about swimming goes to lunch. I wind up side stroking and back stroking to keep from panic attacks. Mid June...OWS practice with the tri club starts next month so I have a chance to get more practice...Yes, there are T shirts involved--always nice to expand my T shirt wardrobe |

Expert 1014 Virginia | Subject: RE: Brian and the Tri Tarts Group - Full Then it's a good idea to practice. That's why I want to do the biathlon in a few weeks, to really see what it's like to do that much time in the water, then get out and be active on dry land. I'm not trying to mash times, just get through the swim. It's a mental dry run about the part that scares me most about my tri in june. |

Expert 1014 Virginia | Subject: RE: Brian and the Tri Tarts Group - Full Question - how long should I stay out of the pool with an open scratch? I've been doing an alcohol swab and neosporin course of treatment on my scratches to make sure all the grease and dirt are out and stay out so it doesn't get infected. it hurts like a mother if i put my leg down on anything, but other than that it seems not to be infected. It's not completely scabbed over yet. So can I swim on it today? |

My husband cleared it, now I need to check with Sportsbackers to see how many kayaks will be around...My goal, however, is to do it without hugging one of those things. |

Champion 7163 Verona WI--Ironman Bike Country! | Subject: RE: Brian and the Tri Tarts Group - Full Hi Kids Thanks for all of the good vibes. It must have been the reason I was able to drag myself to the finish line, albeit hobbling. Not sure how the fluid intake got away from me, but my usual plan did not work well at all. Cramping is a phenomenon I have never experienced before and hope not to anytime soon. The race itself was really well organized and certainly an experience to remember. I am hoping the next time the run itself will be a more aggresive effort from start to finish. Not having raced this distance since last May, I forgot how hard it was to run a marathon! Suzy |

Nice race!!! So, QOTD...how long before it stops raining? It has been raining since early Sunday morning. I'm going to either build an ark or buy a rubber ducky to put in the courtyard outside my office window that currently seems to be 4inches deep in water. I'm ready for a day with atleast a little sunshine. |

BTW--I am counting on Kristen and Kim rooting for a particular swimming tart since Kim volunteered for that position! (too late to back out since I signed up to do that race!) you got it! i'm always down for a little road trip. we should find a tri in the fall that the three of us can do together. i saw a few that were short enough that i felt like i could do it. speaking of swimming - so i did another good swim today - 500 meters. i'm feeling more comfortable doing that distance. so that's good. and since the biathlon (why did i sign up for this again?!?! oh yeah, i'm crazy) is 525 yards, i feel more and more confident that i can complete the distance. i guess the bi is a good idea because it'll give me some race distance experience before my tri. and it's longer than the tri so i'm hoping it will be a huge confidence boost. suzy you are swimming more than 820 yards in your workouts...so you will be fine for your race! you can do it!!!

Start looking for little ones...I have the OLY early Sept. and Kristen is still thinking about that one. There's a sprint the same day/location 750-20K-5K you could do. Setup events has it, Williamsburg. Patriot race is the name. |

Nope not yet. It's taking forever to get them scheduled - the woman I swear is never around. I'm actively researching other instructors, but I am still hoping this will work out. It's the closest I've found and it's still like 30 minutes away w/o traffic!
750 AND OWS. yikes! This is my fear with North East - it's the same distances and OWS. Looks like I have a lot of time before I commit b/c it's not anywhere near closed, so I will think on it. I signed up for an OWS clinic, but I haven't gotten the confirmation so I don't know if I"m actually in or not. If I'm not, I'm going to find another one. I can do 750 by September though, I am already doing 500m workouts now so I should be okay. |
