Morning Nibbs!

I'm back from Denver - 3 1/2 days with no internet access ACCKKK!

we had a great weekend though - my daughter's team came in 5th out of 130 some teams - they played really well

that is awesome.  Hope you did some celebrating.

barqhead - 2008-03-15 8:13 PM No splits for my race yet. BUT, I WON my age group!!! AND I beat my time from last year. 1:05:52 for today's race!!! Best of all, for the first time ever, I beat my arch rival!!!!!! I'm tired, but pumped! I really didn't think I'd be able to better last year's time cuz I felt so "on" for that race last year.

Way to go Pam.  Winning your age group.  Yahoo.

D001 - 2008-03-15 9:52 PM So today, a tornado went almost directly over my house. It was, um.... exciting. OK, so I probably shouldn't have been looking out the window. But well, you know.... Fortunately, the funnel cloud wasn't touching down. I was listening to the TV, (until the power went out,) and they were saying that the funnel had been sighted, but wasn't on the ground. If they'd been saying differently, well, I would not have been standing by the window. (I know, I know. You don't need to say it. I mean, the guy on the TV was already yelling "go to an inside room immediately!" But it was kinda cool watching those swirly clouds.) The power came back on a couple of hours later....

Dee, I did that my first year in Georgia.  I had never lived anywhere with tornados, it was very early in the morning, sounded like a freight train was going through the house.  The whole rest of the family was sleeping and i was standing by the big window at the back of the house.  It is amazing that we survivie sometimes.

enders_shadow - 2008-03-16 3:23 PM OK, now I can share my news...I had a great race today - I finished my first 1/2 mary strong, I beat my stated Wish Time, and came close to my super-secret Wish Time!!! WHOO WHOO WHOO! No landspeed records or anything and I'm definitely MOP, but I'm soooooo excited I can hardly function (except my legs hurt, so I'm not really functioning anyway). That is all.

Congrats on the great race and wishtimes.

Hi Nibbs.  The weather wasn't bad this morning.  It was misty when the race started and very windy, but not too bad.  The sun actually peeked through once the race got started.

I did not do as well as I wanted.  I had problems with nutrition and what I think might be a stomach bug.  I'm not sure if what I'm feeling is from the lack of nutrition with the run or some stomach flu.  Right now, I'm leaning towards stomach flu.  Yuck.  Did not make for my best run.

Sorry you weren't feeling well.  Hope you are doing better now.  Bummer to have it affect the race for you.

Hi Kristen!

Congrats on your race this weekend!

It's so nice to see you on the Eastern time zone! (I hate waiting for everyone else to get here.)

It's kind of fun to be one of the first to arrive

Greetings NIbbs,

Thanks for the birthday wishes.. it was a fairly busy weekend.  DS #1 had ski lessons on Sat and I borught him being hubby was on call and (of course) got called in.  The skiing was GREAT!!!  Lots of freshies.

Sounds like the races were all good (sorry I haven't had time to read to far yet)  Awesome jobs gang!!! Wow Pam, I can only dream that maybe if I stay in good shape for another 40 years I might be able to win my age group by the time I'm 75

Well, I'm actually at work (though supposed to be on vacation).  So I guess I better go.

Later....

Speaking of races, I ran a very good 5K yesterday. NOT a time PR - but it was my 2nd fastest ever - but more importantly, I set huge PRs for Overall and AG placement.

I'm usually in the bottom of my AG regardless of distance for a run race... and the best I've been able to do in longer distances is top 1/3 in a couple of half marys. In a 5K, I'm right just below the middle.

Well, I ran 25:59.4 but placed 175/1270 runners. A top 15 percent finish!

And in my AG, I was 32/88, which put me *almost* in the top 1/3. Again a big improvement

Tough conditions, too, it slowed a lot of people down. It was cold, windy, and the course had a lot of twists and turns, which always slows me down. However, I noticed with about a little less than 1 klick to go that I was running with young people and that *never* has happened before, and I didn't get dropped that much - other than my initial surge out front to get away from start line congestion.

Yay!!! The Nibbs are rockin' the races!
Happy Birthday, Heather!!
Yay for the new bike, Amy!
Yay for Beth's DD who had a great vb tourny!

Ok. Now for the bad news. On my way down to the race this weekend, my check engine light came on in my van. If it were a Ford, I wouldn't have thought anything about it, cuz every single Ford I have ever owned, the check engine light came on multiple times and it was a fuse. But this is a Honda. A 7 year old Honda with almost 100,000 miles on it and that particular light has never illuminated previously. The shop called today. It is the transmission. Big bucks. Fortunately, it is partially covered by warranty since I am still under (barely) 100,000 miles. Just what I didn't want to have to spend money on right now. That is my tale of woe. Carry on!

Congrats Scott!  Yeah, I find that the biggest problem with 5Ks is that they are typically pretty big races.  People don't seed themselves correctly, and that makes for some pretty slow starts.  Most aren't chipped time, so I just relax and line up further back, hit my split watch at the start line rather than hit it at the gun start.

You must have done a great job pacing to be able to stay strong at the end.

Oh...and 'cold' is relative...
