YES! I was training, Beth.

Weird day of pace intervals in shoes and sprint intervals on the bike.

I'm drinking beer and watching basketball now. This is WAY more fun.

Sorry I've been so quiet. I'm still very cheery, but WERK has been busy, and so has training actually. I think I just finished my last "hard" day, though. Just some short brick work and pacing stuff to wind down to my tris. FINALLY!! I WANT TO RACE!!

WTG Bill!

I hear you on the werk front!

and on the race front, I'm starting to really feel more confident about my race at the end of June

I may get another one in before that depending on how things work out in PA

Tammy (Notarunner) is trying to find a race we can do together one of the next weekends I stay out here - it would be great to meet her!

Work? What's work??!

Cranked out 1000 easy yards in the pool tonight (mostly form drills). Indulging in mac & cheese and chicken fingers now...assuming the oven ever heats up.

Also had packet pick up tonight. I'm number 513 and wave 11 (although I forgot to see how many were in my wave...which is probably a good thing to be honest). So at 9:30 on saturday send some "Kick some asphault on the hilly bike course" vibes my way!!

Eep.

Seriously. Am I nutso for going into this with 1 brick under my belt and only 2 outdoor rides of insignificant distance? I've been stuck on the trainer for way too long. I'm approaching the bike as a training ride for Kansas 70.3...

We'll see how it goes over!

Barb, just count it as bricks two and three

You'll do fine.  I'll lend you all my bike mojo and love on Saturday.  I'll be on the banks of the Mississippi River smoking ribs anyway.   Mmmmmmmm

Seriously, I'd rather be racing.  I'd be doing the Memphis in May tri if I had a wetsuit.  Yeah, I think I could have rented one, but the rental is like a third of the cost of a new one.  So no go there.

Long swim this morning.  No spiders.

Our 11 year old had his season-end lacrosse party last night.  The 5th-8th grade (boys) challenged the dads and coaches to a "no contact" match.   We obliged.  Wow!  No warm up; talk about going 0-100 in 2 seconds!  Late in the game I had the ball and I remember hearing a "POP!" and down I went - stick to the head.  Nice (smaller) blue, goose egg right at my hairline on my forehead.  An 8th grader (big kid) of course was the culprit.  We had a lot of fun though!

Thanks for the encouragement you guys.

I'll probably be blogging from the road if you wanted to follow along over at www.runningjayhawk.com

The right hand column allows for twitter updates, which I'll probably send my unofficial results to after the fact.

My goal is simple: finish. and don't meet the sag wagon.

Well...I've never done that (because I didn't want to wait in the Porta-Potty line before the swim start [at least it was in the lake])...

Nope, never done that...

Wow, it's quiet in here today!

I hope everyone is out training instead of werking, which is what I was doing

ps

Amy, I just sent you a PM on your question

I know this is going to sound really stupid, but how do you read your own PMs? I clicked on the PM button to the side of my log and all I discovered was the ability to PM myself!
Thanks

Upper left-hand corner of the page there is a little box - first line of text in the box should say: Welcome, amyro.  A few lines down from that it says: "x" new messages in your inbox.  Click on "inbox".  Voila!  You can now read and reply to PMs.

Something happened this year. I just can't get enough swimming.

Now, I need some good weather so I can get consistent riding my bike to work. This is where I get 90% of my biking. I was up at 5:40 staring at the weatherman trying to determine if I could have beaten the rain before I got to work. Turns out I made the right choice as I wouldn't have made it (and I shower 1.5 miles from work).

Also, since I blew off the first few days, I consider the end of this week the halfway point. I should be almost on target for the bike/run and way over with the swim.

In the upper left hand corner you should see an area like this

If I did my part right there should be a red #1 where it says "0 new messages...."

Click on the inbox link and you will see your Private Messages

I've been flitting back and forth on the commuting thing.  The weather is starting to get nice here in Indiana and I would love the extra time on the bike but I work second shift.  So I'd be biking home at midnight.  I used to do it when I lived a lot closer to work but now I'm looking at 7 miles in the dark.  Not sure how I feel about that.  It's mostly suburban streets and I'd certainly wear reflective clothing and have all the appropriate lighthing.  But it still makes me feel a smidge uncomfortable.  What do you guys think?  Would you do it or not?

Emily,

not being familiar with where you live - it's hard to weigh in, but  I don't know that I would do it for a variety of reasons

Where I live - both states, it just wouldn't be safe
