New user 24 | Subject: RE: bought a bike...and other stuff Sharie, congratulations on purchasing your bike! That is so exciting. When do you actually get it? I was thinking about you on Tuesday because one of the girls I ride with has a Ruby Comp. I was asking her what she thought of it and she said she loves it and if for some reason she had to get a new bike she would definitely buy one again. Laurie |

New user 24 | Subject: RE: update TR - I have been there also. My moment of truth was when I had a hard time getting into my fat pants. It was the motivation I needed to make a change! More exercise, not eating out as much has been key for me, but I am still struggling. This week was a little bit of a backsliding week as life has been super busy and stressful and food is so good! I also am a vegetarian although I eat eggs, dairy and fish. So lacto-ovo-pesco vegetarian or something. For several years I did not eat fish as well, but, I went cruising with my DH! for 4 years on our sailboat and it became a matter of practicality. Fish was a free, available source of food. Now, my body is used to having fish and I think it would be hard nutritionally to cut back on it. I know it is a personal, difficult decision. So good luck figuring that out and good luck with your tests today. The manatees are here for you! Laurie |

Just know that you have trained hard and are ready and I hope you have fun! I'm glad most people said you could push off the wall. That would be awkward to not be able to do it when that is what we do in training. I can't wait to hear how your first Tri goes! Laurie thanks LAURIE. ill be sure to let everyone know after the race on Sunday. and i think the biggest thing that was wiggin me out about the wall thing is exactly what you said, im 'USED TO' pushing off the wall, and its how ive trained. if it was something that i could DQ for, i didnt want needless distraction of 'worrying' that i might push off inadvertently because thats what i was in the habit of doing. stacieb |

Master 1420 Victoria, BC | Subject: Happy Weekend everyone! I'm so happy - it's the weekend, it's sunny and warm, I just spent an hour gardening, the dog is sacked out exhausted at my feet ... ahhh ... life is as it should be. ;-) STACIE - enjoy tomorrow and the lead up to your race! I pulled this meditation off my website today and wanted to post it for you - it helps me when I get all worked up about something, or when I get nervous or over-occupied ... : Imagine that you are standing in a storm. While exhaling, blow out all your inner tensions and waste substances into the wind. Now the storm is slowly dying down and you also become calm by letting your exhalation become slower and more calm again. Now lengthen the pauses between inhalation and exhalation. The air has a fine texture as it streams into your lungs; slowly and peacefully it leaves you again. Let yourself sink into a pleasant state of relaxation, from which new strength can develop. Affirmation: I am calm and serene at any time in any place. |

Veteran 209 Wyoming | Subject: Friday's workout Yesterday I drove to Fort Collins, left home 6am, to swim with Wendy Mader. She was really laid back and we got along super. She looked over the plans I took with me and said she loved the TriNewbie plans! Lots of detail, easy yet adequate workouts, etc. We worked together for about 30 min in the water. I swam one lap and she said I was swinging my arms too wide, reaching out too far and also kicking way too much for a triathlete! We then did some drills. After she taught me the drills she took videos of me. So COOL! On the actual drill laps I looked good, then on my first "regular swim" lap again, I went back to my "old style". so different! After we worked on that for a bit, she used her underwater camera to tape me. WOW! I knew I was not pulling as efficiently as possible - had recognized it on my own last week but didn't know what to do to fix it. She showed me and boy oh boy what a difference! Now I just need to get more practice time and put it all together! She had lots of other little tips and pointers that were helpful. I told her I would like to meet with her again in about 4-5 weeks as that is about halfway to my Tri. She said we could go through the transitions together or whatever I want. Then, since I was in the club as her guest (she works there) I was free to use it for as long as I wanted! I went upstairs and rode a spinner! FUN! I couldn't probably afford to belong even if a club like that was close, but it sure would be nice to have access to one! I wrote on my log that I had a good laugh at myself on the spinner because it has a screen like a video game and you can choose your route. I road along the coast - looked for you CA folks, but didn't see ya! HA! Anyway, I was about a mile into the ride, checking out my rpm, HR, grades, gears, etc when I finally realized that you had to steer the bike!!! If someone was following me around on all my training thus far they might think I was a little whacky...all the laughing at myself I have done! But...at least I am having fun with it!! After the ride I worked in the weight room for a bit. I thought I would have a lot of time to do things on my own - sans kids - but I spent so much time at the gym that the next thing I knew it was time to go to the wedding - an old friend's son. I had planned on being back in Cheyenne and going to the church to change into my dress, but there I was still in Ft. Collins....so I went back to the club and asked if I could use the locker room again! It is so nice with big counters, hair fixings etc, all there for you. Had a nice end to my day seeing old friends. I did make it to Sierra Outpost and bought a tech shirt for summer running...it was in the Bargain Barn for $6! No workout today....rain and snow and wind and COLD!! And I am conserving energy because I am a chaperone for my son's Prom tonight! Grand March to intro the couples at 8:30pm, dance at 9pm, doors are locked and kids (and a few parents) stay til 6am! Hopefully I will get a run in tomorrow afternoon/evening. Bill, you swam??? OMG!
and, Sharie -- What a great, busy (late) day you are having. I'd say your time at the gym and in the pool counts as a workout. That swim coach session was great. I'd like to have that video done so I can see what I'm doing from another perspective. Hope the prom goes well and you are able to run and rest tomorrow! I managed to get my run in this morning before son's track meet. They're always a day long affair. Enjoy your Sunday everyone. Lynn |

Sora/Tiagra mix....I'm not thrilled with the Sora but it was pretty reasonable at $300. Seems to be a comfortable fit and since I had budgeted 600 for a bike...woohhoo...I can go buy other stuff for it with the money I saved! Carole |

Carole That's wonderful news, Carole, and the bike should do you just fine. You might want to bring it in to the LBS for a tune-up ... Sora will actually work perfectly well and can be very durable provided the mechanic adjusts the components well. |
