So I ran close to 15 miles today. Very hilly route which is good for Boston but hurts now! I had one little wave of nausea at about mile 10 so I had half a gel.  Also drank water and tiny bit of gatorade during the run.  Nutrition during the run is the biggest challenge for me.  But this was a big step.

Great job! This nice weather we have been having sure helps getting outside to do your long runs. How are your times coming?

So has anyone ever tried curling? My son saw it on the Olympics and wanted to try it. Local curling club had an open house today so we went and tried it out, my son liked it so much we are signed up for the next 3 weeks.

In what sense?  Just actually eating?  I was the same way for a while...but if I don't eat during any sort of exercise over 2 hours, I feel my energy and overall performance slipping very fast.

Good work on that run.  Wish I was in your shoes.  My 15-20 minute runs are boring as hell.  I don't even feel like I'm working hard.  I find it difficult not to push myself.  I know better now though...ran too fast last week and my right shin starting hurting the next morning and it's been sore since.  We'll see how it goes today.

Yeah, except for some black ice it was really nice.  I have been staying around the 7:40-7:50 range on the longs which is where I should be. I plan my long runs to be a bit slower then marathon pace.

Haven't tried curling...not sure if there's anywhere close to my hometown to actually join a club or whatever.  Everyone in the office talks about curling like it's the most exciting sport though....it takes up so much air time, that it's often the only thing you can watch!

Anybody catch the US/CANADA hockey game!?  It was awesome!

That was so cool! Did you see the story about the 1980 hockey game earlyer in the afternoon? I remember that game, thats all anyone talked about in school the next day. I would have been in 8th grade at the time.

What a great Winter Olympics this is turning out to be for team USA.

Got the packing out of my nose this morning, so tomorrow morning I can get back to running. Hope I didn't lose too much fitness, at least I can breath now.

That's good to hear.  How are things feeling?  Are you going to go right back to your normal schedule of running, or just ease into it?  How will the cold affect it?  Are you guys getting the same storm we are in the Northeast?

It is amazing being able to breath again. The cold felt a little funny on the nose, all that air getting in.
I will probably start with a 30 minute run tomorrow and see how that feels.
I think we missed most of the heavy snow, that went through Chicago, Milwaukee might have gotten some.

Update us on the run

Brewer & I did a 35 minute run this morning. There was about an inch of new snow on the sidewalks this morning so that kept me from running too fast. Legs felt fine, just don't want to put too much presure on the nose yet.
But it felt good to be running again.

Weighed in this morning and actually went down about 1/2 pound.

I hear that's good if you are marathon training!  The last thing you want is for your body to be searching for fuel.

Anyone here do the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon? How about you Lisa?

Was thinking about doing a marathon this year and this one looks interesting. Looks like it would be better than Fox Cities.

I completed a 12 mile run today. Longest of the year! Feeling great!

Hydration and nutrition during long distance runs? I'm training for my first marathon in May and I'm interested in hearing anyone's thoughts/ideas/strategy (what worked/what didn't work) or recommendations of good reference material.

For my long runs I would wear a fuel belt with 4 bottles. I would usally mix water with Gatorade. If you feel you need more on your longer run you could try the gels and see how you tolerate them, make sure you drink something with them.

I haven't figured it out yet..actually I am just downright horrible at it.    I drink water and a little gatorade.  The best advice is to find out what they will be having on the course and use that to train with so your stomach will be used to it on race day.
