I had a great training weekend, besides completely wiping out on my bike and cutting up my knee pretty bad. I just got my clip-in pedals put on and it was my first time out with them. I LOVE the way I feel while riding, it's just the stopping thats the problem Embarassed. It felt so amazing to be out on the bike though instead of spinning class----such a different, harder, and more fun workout! I'm also off work today and see a nice nap, foam rolling, and some Triathlete and Runners World magazine reading in my near future---I'm due for a rest day!

Oh! And also I officially registed for the Philadelphia Olympic Triathlon on June 25. This makes it real, and I'm sort of freaking out---both in a good, and bad way!

Sarah, hope your knee feels better! I found clip pedals tough while stopping a couple of times too! I rode with them for the first time last year and found stop signs weren't my friend. (of course the first time I fell was in a group ride!) I was sooooooo embarassed. Thankfully no one got hurt, just my feelings and my bike seat. I found the clips take some getting used to. Also congrats on signing up for that Olympic tri!!!
You only told them half the story!! LOL Sarah, congrats on signing up! You're soooo ready!! and by June you're going to build a lot of speed too! Karen, I almost missed the race car thing!! How'd that dinner go? what's your friend racing? Racing is in my blood! I may get "just a little" excited!!!!!

Is there another half to the story that we should know about??

The racing banquet was fun.  Sometimes at those type of things I feel like I am in another Redneck world, that is nothing like the real world that I live in!!  He drives a late model, and was the track champ last year.  And, along the redneck lines, his wife was there too.  Oh, she is also his Aunt.  By marriage.  So it is not illegal!!  Among the other highlights were a Chuck-a-Luck Wheel, meat raffles, and moonshine!  Can you top that?  My husband and I own a crate late model that another friend drives.  While we go to the late model races every week during the season, we are more sprint car and midget fans.  I have been to some far away places and some dive tracks for races.  Places that I never thought I would go to for any reason, let alone racing!!  We are also NASCAR fans, and used to go to a couple of races a year.  Now we usually only go to Charlotte for the All Star Race.  I love to talk racing, so anytime you want to bore everyone else, I will be up for a good conversation!!   Oh, and the best part of the banquet?  I won the 50-50!

I am a little exited because this week starts my "official" training for my first HM.  It is 12 weeks away.  I guess I am a little nervous too, since it is a new distance for me.

Hope everyone has a good week.

LOL...

I can't top anything! I was just curious. I used to race sportbikes. First drag racing, then I started to dabble in road course. It was a lot of fun and I REALLY miss it, but no time for that anymore. We live minutes away from Joliet Speedway. It's fun to sit in the backyard when NASCAR comes to town and watch the private jets bring the drivers in. They fly into a small airport down the road.

Don't be nervous!! Just stick to the plan and you will do great!

I'll let Anne tell the rest of the clipless pedal rollover story! LOL

I love the atmosphere at the races.  Everyone is so fired up.  I love the sights and the smells and the sounds!  There is a small airport near Charlotte Motor Speedway.  The drivers will fly into the airport, then helicopter to the track.  We like to watch them too!
I am going to do my best to stick to my HM training plan.  It does make me feel a little better to know that I have a plan to follow that should prepare me for the race.  It is so much better than trying to come up with what to do on my own.

Anne, are we going to hear the rest of the story?   If you tell me yours I will tell you mine!!!

Anne is being shy! The rest of the story is she took me and my brand new bike, at the time, out when she fell and knocked me into someone else taking them out too! LOL Sorry honey, I had to tell!! We were actually pretty lucky. Everyone was ok and no significant damage to any of the bikes.

Hey folks!
Quick update as to why I've been away so long: Mexico was great and I got back Wednesday night, but I managed to pick up one of those horrible intestine bacterial infections along the way. I've been in the ER and eventually a hospital room since very early Friday morning. Got so many fluids through the IV that I lost count. Had blood drawn at least 3 times, my IV site moved 3 times, gave multiple samples of multiple bodily fluids. My fever hit 104.1 at one point, and considering that I generally run around 97.9 that was REALLY high. It really really sucked.
I came home last night but I still feel like crap. Have an almost constant headache, general aches & pains, barely eating/drinking and taking a fistful of pain meds, anti nausea, and antibiotics. I've been told I can resume normal activity (including work and workouts) as I feel able, but to ease back into everything.
Not sure yet how severely this is going to effect my training (I'm 11 weeks out right now) but at the moment I have basically no energy and I'm still having trouble sleeping.

Not feeling up to much computer stuff (other than staring blankly at episode after episode of Scrubs & Dr. Who LOL) but I wanted to give you all an update.

I will check in again as soon as possible. Hopefully I'll some major improvement over the next few days.
peace.
Henry

Yes I knocked into Brian on his new bike!!! I wanted to vomit when I thought of how much $$$ in damage I may have had done to our bikes. As I remember it I was the only one to hit the pavement and it was only my seat damaged and a scratch on my bike. I was vey relieved when I realized no one else was hurt or had damaged anyone else's bike. Oh and Erin that article is hillariouis!!!!! LOL

I'm probably going to miss my run goal by 6 miles. I'm not going to get hurt trying to cover it. But I was sick in the beginning of the month and am happy to be as close as I am. I did put a few extra miles in here and there to get as close as I could.

Congrats for what??? lol Missing my goals 2 months in a row now?.........I'm supposed to be a good example for you guys!!!

Don't get discouraged. The point of a goal is to be challenged. Sometimes those challenges come in the form of sickness, family, or other priorities. It should be hard to make and you might fail. Just don't lose track and give up!!!

Meulen - 2011-02-24 11:32 AM One more weekend left in February!!! Monday is the last day of the month. A lot of you had a REALLY solid month!!! I'm really impressed!!!! So how are we doing with our goals this month?

Looks like I only need to run 7 miles each day for the next five days to hit my running goal. No problemo!
I'm probably going to miss my run goal by 6 miles. I'm not going to get hurt trying to cover it. But I was sick in the beginning of the month and am happy to be as close as I am. I did put a few extra miles in here and there to get as close as I could.

Oh, WAHHH!

just kidding. congrats (through my teeth).

Congrats for almost making your goal despite your sickness and six little miles away from making it AND feeling really happy about it. That's something to congratulate!

Tonight I am going to a "Miles and Martini" party with some friends. It's sponsored by Newtons and the store that is hosting it is having a sale of 15% off of Newtons (which, btw, newtons never go on sale). Michael said "go, have fun, but you better not come home with a new pair of shoes!" Darn it! Well, at least I'll get a little run in tonight. And it's perfect torrential downpour rain weather too!

Buy the shoes and have them shipped to the house. Then you didn't technically "come home with them" lol

My husband should be proud- I didn't buy a thing (and I even won a door prize of a pair of reflector mittens!). My friends bought enough stuff for the entire country.
