I'll freely admit that I'm asking as an excuse to brag a bit.  My swimming is only doing slightly better than biking but I'm very happy with my running.  I'm 4 weeks out from my half marathon and I've had a couple of really great runs, including a fantastic 12 mile run yesterday!

Not a very good week for me, but got a few things in:  I need to step up my running before my march 20 HM.

My biggest week of the year so far.

Can I whine for a few minutes. Where can I find a few more hours in the day? I wanna ride 3 days a week, run 4 days, and now my swim coach wants me to start swimming masters 3 times a week. (I really need to do this, as I can gain lots of time in the water) I would also like to do core 3 days a week, strength train maybe twice a week, and mix in a day or two of yoga. On top of that I own 2 businesses and have 3 kids under 6 years old. WTH?? When does life slow down a little?

Ok, now that I've bitched a little, any sugestions on how to squeeze it all in?

Some guy at Los Alamos back in the 70s started working off of a 26 hour day.  You could give that a try...

Got some news from the dr. that I really didn't want to hear...

My right knee has had a little catch in it and been sore these last couple of days. I figured I'd go get it checked before pushing it and luckily I did....sorta.

I have a small bone burr in my right knee (leftover from the previous surgery in 2003) that's causing some inflamation of the cartlidge and tissue. Apparently, there's LOTS of fluid in the knee from the ultrasound they did. She thinks, just this extra running, has finally caught up to it, and it just needs a break.

She's given me a topical NSAID (Pennsaid), and told me to use that, ice, icy hot, etc. 3-5x per day to help get the inflamation out. And I CANNOT RUN for a week. I can ride, but if it swells, that's done too.

Man this stinks! She thinks I'll be okay without having to go in there to file it down, but we won't know this soon. YIKES!!

Backstory: in 2003, I took a nasty fall cracking my kneecap into a few pieces. They kept the biggest piece in there and removed the fragments. At the time, they didn't want to put an artificial one in b/c they believed there was a big enough piece left (xray shows it's pretty good). But it's highly likely they didn't grind the corners down well enough and it's finally catching up to me with the abuse I've put it through...

So, here's to a week to heal!

When you have a vasectomy?

Personally I'd choose swimming over the strength training, core work (swimming *is* core work), or yoga.  But that is my interests, not yours.  You are talking about getting in 17(!) distinct workouts per week.  That's a bunch!

That's the plan. Ride & swim this week, ride & swim this weekend and then follow up next week.

Funny story. When I had the snip/snip, about a year ago, as the Dr. left the room he said, "See ya later numb nuts!"

I'm signing up for my first marathon today. The race will be in Oct. The rumor is it'll sell out in 2-3hrs after opening.

I don't think I've been this anxious or nervous in a long time...

Congrats!!!!

I'm still dreaming of it right now.

I might try to enter the NYC lottery, and when I get in, that may be my first.  We will see.

I gave it some serious thought last fall but I think I'm a year out from doing an HIM.  I fell like I have a lot of room for improvement at the shorter distances and I think any improvements I make there will care over when I decide to step up.  Depending how things go this year I'm going to consider a HIM for fall 2012.

I havent signed up either. I'm prolly gonna do this race or B2B half in the fall. For what it's worth, and I know this sounds a little obnoxious, a HIM isn't that hard. Drew your run volume would obviously be fine, swim twice a week, and hit the bike as hard as ya can. I think you can train for a HIM on 6 to 8 hours a week, with a few 10-12 hour weeks for good measure. Obviously, there is a difference in training to compete vs training to complete. I may be singing a different tune in 7 weeks after NOLA. I've already conceded that I will be going into this race undertrained.

I'm using ice, Pennsaid (topical), icy hot, and aleve. So far so good. And yes, the pennsaid is pretty good stuff.

I'm in. I got in to register for MCM yesterday. Woo hoo!

Cornfed, I'll be sure and keep you updated as it gets closer. I believe my family has decided to make it a family yearly vacation. We have family in the DC area who's going to loan us a room and help with transportation. Should be quite fun!

Plus, look for the folks with the Team Red White & Blue logos on their shirts. As of yesterday we're 300 strong!

Not much earthshattering going on in my little corner of the world.  Had a miserable Tuesday swim - struggled through the whole thing and put out and execrable 7:15 final 500.  Much better swim this evening. Still only did 2000 (time constrained), but did get in a good 5x100 on 1:40 set - all repeats between 1:14 and 1:18 in the dragsuit. Felt pretty good getting out the water.
