Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Well, that was an interesting ride. About 20 miles in my rear cable snapped! Was going to call my husband to come get me, but my friend Becky told me to Ironman Up! And whenever she does that (which is often) I can't whimp out. We were out in the country, hilly terrain. So, I rode about 10 miles with the rear in the hardest gear and only able to shift the front. Not easy at all, and the difference between my 2 gears was really not much. Made it to a bike shop and had it replaced, and we finished the ride. Huge kudos for my two friends for being so patient and not riding off on planned route. My training buddies are awesome! |

Extreme Veteran 585 Price, UT | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED after running like a mad women all morning trying to cover everyone else having fun I went out to get on my bike for a ride. Front tire was flat. I had just taken it to the bike shop for a new rear tire and to replace the front tube because I keep breaking the stupid little valve top off. SO I was not in a great mood when I had to take the bike back in. They jumped right on it and fixed it so I was out on the road in less than a half hour. Pushed a hill ride, but I sure am feeling out of shape. At least the weatther was good and only a small head wind to fight with at times. |

Sad but true. Clearly you are from Texas. As least its not Chuck Norris quotes.
I'll take this as a compliment, thank you very much. Oh I forgot whatever song I had playing prior to heading to the starting line. Usually "The Road Goes on Forever" by Robert Earl Keen. Yep, definitely Texan. 40 miles today. Held just over a 20 mph pace. We're getting there. Slowly but surely. Oh the other way to know you're in Texas... I forgot my 2nd bottle today. About mile 27 I stopped at a convenience store in a fairly rural area outside Houston. They had a gas station, normal convenience store fare, and a butcher shop w/ meat counter. They had all kind of smoked sausages and were cutting up a fresh side of cow when I walked in. Wish I had a backpack. That's funny! So that's typical then for a convenience store? Nice ride too - fast! |

Pro 4672 Nutmeg State | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED jarvy01 - 2011-05-07 10:04 AM I swam my 1000 meter time trial this morning in 19:10 (1:46 / 100 yds.). A little bummed about that time. I think I can do better. I'll do the test in another month to see if I've progressed at all. Is the 19:10 average? Thanks, all! Playing with the kids for the rest of the day and cooking out tonight. 12 mile run in the morning and it better be nice outside! I can't take the treadmill anymore.
19:10 is right in the middle of the fat part of the curve. Just remember the purpose of the TT is to measure progress. You now have your starting point and can work on improving it. |

Nice ride too - fast! As you get more rural, sort of. You see random things more often than not it revolves around meat or Mexican food. Fresh smoked meat (usually sausage or brisket), fresh beef jerkey, tamales home made in the back etc. More like a country store than a convenience store. And thanks. |

I hit the roads at 6:15 this morning wearing a tank top and shorts. The weather is beautiful here! 12 miles in the books. I came home and my kids had some gifts on the kitchen table. My favorite was a poem written by my 6 year old (Conrad): I love my mom. I love to see my mom play video games with me. I love to hear my mom's voice. I love the smell of my mom's hair. I love to taste my mom's cabbage. I love to touch my mom's hand. I love my mom. Isn't that the cutest thing in the world? It made me cry. |

Master 2538 Albuquerque | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Well, I'm waiting for the official times to be posted online, but my Garmin said I beat my goal time in today's triathlon I show 1hr 25min 58secs...I went in to it thinking 1:30 - 1:40 would be about right for me. I had a good time, too, and that's really what it's about for guys like me bringing up the rear. The best part is, my friend who is fast (he was 1hr 15secs) gets done in plenty of time to come cheer me on at the finish! |
