1st time for meSurprised

Have Muncie coming up in 2 weeks, then IMKY.

Seems like the closer it gets the more reasons / fears i am getting that i'm not going to be able to do this....anyone else get those doubts?   today I had a 4 hr ride (following IRONFIT by Fink) and lost all my energy in mile 70 - 80.  today was my first attempt at all liquid (used Hammer Sustained Energy and Perpet.)

One thing i have done in the last 2 weeks that i like is on my long ride/brick days, I split in half.  So today i had a 4 hr ride and 45 min run.  I rode 2hrs, ran 20 min, rode 2 hours, ran 25 min.  Used my house as "1/2 way" special needs bag

It is up to you, but unless you plan on bringing your own Perpetuem to the race, you might want to try doing some long rides with Perform since that it what will be on the course.  Plus, the bike ride is the easiest part of the race to take in some solid food.  Interesting way to do your bricks. Don't doubt that you can do this. YOU CAN!  It is normal to get nervous the closer we get to the race. I did the same thing last year where Louisville was my first IM and I am a very weak swimmer.  Stay positive!

belilgr - 2012-06-22 2:30 PM This will be my first full IM... I've been battling injury all Spring/Summer and thank the Lord I've been able to start building my runs back up! That's awesome they'll have Bonk Breaker bars... PBJ is my favorite!

I bought some of those Bonk Breakers to make sure I could stomach them.  That PB&J is pretty good!

I have the same doubts; they normally hit in the middle of the week when I'm struggling to get all the 'planned' workouts done while working and taking care of the family. When the weekend comes and I get the big training done, I usually feel better about it since that is where I see the most change.

I have always used Heed until this year since it won't be available on the course. Looking forward to my Half at Cardinal Harbor in 3 weeks to really put my nutrician plan to the test. Lovin' the bonk breakers and I'm just starting with the Perform....so far, so good.

Normal to have such thoughts. I have them everytime I think about the run. Who's bright idea was it to put a marathon after a 112 mile bike? Stick to your plan, this is about the time it's the worst. The body and mind are both tired, but hang in there. You will be amazed at how wonderfully wierd taper will feel. By the Saturday before the race you'll be so ready physically and metally you won't be able to stand it.

You will do this!

krazytallchick - 2012-06-24 4:32 PMThis past week I have been really questioning can I do this?  It seemed no matter what activity I was doing I was struggling which made me think can I do this... will I make the cutoff times.  I have never doubted myself before till now.  I hope it is the pre-race nerves and that I will get over this feeling soon.
Don't get too down on yourself, there is still time to build your confidence, just stick to your plan and make sure you are eating and sleeping enough. If you are feeling run down, don't hesitate to take an off day!

I think getting enough rest helps a lot! With full time work, full time college, planning a wedding in August, and training for IMKY, I get about 5 hours a night at best. I bonked 3 miles into the run at Eagleman this year. But after getting about 8 hours a night for this past week leading up to the Philadelphia Insurance Oly tri (24 June), I was able to floor it for a swim, bike, run, and overall Oly PR!!  I had never beaten my brother in five head-to-head races since 2007, but I beat him by 7.5 minutes! Getting your rest works wonders.

After using Perform at St George, I'm going to bring my own Gatorade and put some in my special needs bag as well.  The flavor was terrible and it really didn't do it for me.  I'll probably still grab some during the ride, but I'll even be looking forward to some warm gatorade after dealing with "Perform" all day.

I was just watching 'triathlonmind' youtube video of the Louisville bike course (cool, by the way!)...at one point, a sign on the road is shown saying something like "no ironman" and he mentions that the town doesn't like Ironman and that there were tons of tacks thrown on the road in that area and cars are "unfriendly" to bikers....any experience with this???  As if 140.6 miles wasn't enough to contend with...

Finally startedmy swim training! With a fairly important OLY coming up next weekend (my brother and I are now in the same age group and Im nipping at his heels speed wise) I figured I better get started. Lol. Last time I swam was an OLY back in February. Hit the pool on Monday and struggled through 1500, but got in the bay yesterday evening and knocked out 2000 at a decent clip and felt good. I was starting to worry about Louisville till I looked back at my logs and saw that I started about the same time out before AZ and had a great 1:07 there. I'm going to focus more on OW swims here on out since the water is warm enough to go without a wetsuit. How's everybody else doing?

I had heard the same thing so in 2010 I had 2 tubs just in case but I did not hear anyone having the issue.

LaGrange has a great IronMan festival. I believe that is it Olham county that does not really like the IronMan. I am sure someone that lives there can correct me

Swimming is going good, and have no problem with the bike. Haven't done any huge runs. Did 10 miles a few weeks age, not too worried about the running though, i run slowly but i can keep going and going for a good distance. I have 10 miles to do this Saturday so that should boost a bit of confidence.

I hate when i miss training session, but then find it only takes a day or two to get back into it, i had friends out from home in ireland the last few daysbut i was still able to train. Thinking off giving it a miss tonight though because i have been on the sofa the last few nights and am absolutely shattered, need a bit of rest and good night sleep in my bed.

Was wondering if people are able to stick to their schedules or do they find like me, random things popping up and having to miss days here and there

For me, in the beginning, my training schedule was like gospel...and if I missed a session I was extremely upset.  Now...while i KNOW that each session is important, if for some reason I have to miss one, I try and focus on letting it go and getting right back to it the very next day.  In the long run, fitness comes from consistency...never one workout.  Then again...i have NO IDEA what I'm talking about

Had to miss my hour ride tonight because of work.  At least I was on my feet sweating my rear end off so it wasn't all bad.  I think I've missed about a half dozen workouts over the past four months but it hasn't been a huge deal.  I'm just looking to finish under the 17 hr mark so I figure a missed workout here and there isn't too bad.

Not going to Louisville this weekend to train but I have a 50 mile ride to do on Saturday and a century scheduled for next Sunday.  Only 59 more days to go!  Have fun on the course and stay safe with proper hydration!

For those of you coming in tomorrow for the IamTri ride.  It's going to be hot with a high around 106.  The upside is that humidity will be low, which is pretty unusual for this time of year.  The downside is that the only shady part of the ride is on 1694 which just happens to be the only long climb.

I hope you have already started hydrating!  See you in the morning.

Yesterday's ride with the IamTri group was pretty brutal with the heat. I really do hope we don't see those types of temps race day as we were cooking out there. They did a great job in making sure we stayed hydrated.

What did you think of the course?  Compared to the hills we have here in Georgia, I don't think they are that bad ... except for the long out and back.  I've already started doing my "we want a cold front" dance. I figure if I start now and do it every day, then come August 26th we should have much cooler temps! Smile
