So, what are three ways you would spend a one year sabbatical?

One of

1. Move to the Queen Charlotte islands. Home school my kids. Live off tree bark and goose berries. Run naked on the beach.

2. Move to the East Coast. Home school my kids. Live off fish and lobsters. Run naked on the beach.

3. Move to New York / Paris / Istanbul / Tokyo, take some course, study maybe philosophy or physics or history or languages. If in Tokyo learn ninjitsu, like go to classes 6 days a week.

4. Move to Mexico City, home school my kids, build houses for poor people.

5. Buy a little cottage in the interior of BC. Home school my kids. Climb mountains, learn to cross country ski.

6. Bike ride around the world.

7. Hire a boat and sail around the world.

8. Become a Lay Monk, if there is such a thing, swim lots if that is allowed.

Charcuterie, sweet, I will be coming down for some home brews and charcuterie. Just make an exception and brew up a nice IPA!

Ah cool, I'm not the only one here then.

My wife loves IPAs, so I'll be making them. Even going to put together my own randall.

If I do an event this year, It will be the CDA' Olympic distance. Welcome aboard. Nice to see someone who's in the Northwest. Good luck on your goals. Maybe I'll see you at CDA this year. Go after it.

I love those old Trek carbon bikes, the lugged frames before they figured out monococque. I raced in high school, when carbon fiber was just coming out, and dreamed of one the way most kids dream of fast cars. Good luck in your hunt for a new ride.

And yeah, up to 4 adult bikes and 5 kids here too. 6-year-old did his first tri this summer on his little BMX (an SE, if you're a connoisseur, we have an old-school dealer here in town) and is now lobbying for a second bike.

My 5 year old daughter is doing her first tri as well! It is great to get your kids involved at an early age! Make it a family event!
The next thing you will want is a bike repair stand with so many bikes!!

My daughter did an Ironkids last summer when she was 2. It was hilarious. She just started riding her bike with pedals this week and yesterday told me- I'm going to pedal around the whole triathlon this summer!

(It's 25 yards running through the water, 1/4 mile bike ride and 300 yard run or something.) I did it with her. The day before the 70.3 in Boulder.

She used her strider for the bike leg.

Here she is getting body marked http://www2.snapfish.com/snapfish/fe/l=en_US/p/Organizer/AlbumID=10... She just made it under the USAT limit by a few weeks to compete as a 3 year old.

All 3 of my kids will be doing a Kids Tri in August. They are pretty excited! Need to get the 5 year old off his training wheels since the USAT will not allow them.

Registered for my first Triathlon! No backing out now.
It's next Sunday (I'm a serial procrastinator and the fees go up tomorrow) in scenic Pine Mountain Georgia.

Just got off the bike. It was nice and warm at 85 deg.
Averaged just shy of 15 mph for my standard 7 mile loop, which was a personal best for me. Previous best was 14.53 mph.
Makes me feel pretty good for the race next weekend.

Thats Great! I'm sure you're a very proud dad. Can't wait for my kids to start racing. Finally have my oldest doing the 1 mile fun run when my wife and I go to races. Hope this will be the first of many for him!

I hate days like today. I'm sure we all do. Went hard on the bike yesterday and my legs were wiped out today. Dreaded the run I had to do. Busy all day with different things. One of which was two hours of practice in the middle of the day with my daughter's softball team. Hot, humid and draining. But I prevailed! Made myself get out of the door for my run when we got home. Not the best, but I did it. "Day off" tomorrow. Probable do some core and strengthening work. My reward...a couple of Abita Restoration Ale. Gonna be good! Hope everyone had a great day!

As a dad - I've got to imagine that seeing him compete has got to be as fulfilling if not more fulfilling than doing it yourself. True? Your time is coming!

I'm sure this will come as no surprise to those who have been members of previous groups with me - but I'm on the DL again. Last week - I took a pretty good fall of my bike while going over a speed bump. I was sore at the time but I was able able to get my ride in but as the week has progressed, the pain in my back has increased to the point that it's hard to walk. It's sore but moving around specifically landing on my right foot is incredibly painful. And the pain is different from the pain from early this year.

I've got a message today and an x-ray tomorrow.

In other news - I'm working my butt off to get everything buttoned up so I can finish the school year and start my vacation. Can. Not. Wait.

Confession time. I am up to 208. For a 5'6" frame, that's a lot. I am turning over the leaf today. I am going to register for the CDA' triathlon this week and start training for it in earnest tomorrow. My goal is to finish MOP, and get to the starting line at 185. The event is in August.

Weekly goals:
Start OLY plan and do each workout s/b/r 2x
Limit poor food and beverage choices after 6PM.
Lose 3 pounds.

Just got back from 3 mile run. everything's all healed up, and I'm ready to do this.

I had to post this here, so that I would be held accountable, and do it. In the last 3 seasons, this has been an excellent motivator for me. BDAS is where it's at.

Kevin we're the same height!

I need IPA suggestions for DH for Father's Day. He's fixing my roof rack right now in the heat. I might run out and grab a six pack now.

Man, I hate to hear that. From your post the other day it seemed that you were going to bounce back after your soreness went away. Hopefully the doc will have good news for you after your x-ray!

Good luck wrapping things up and getting on with your sabbatical. I know you must be looking forward to it. I'm just plain giddy for the time I get off in the summer. Can't imagine a whole year. I'd get in way too much trouble! Let us know how your appointment goes.

My hating the day is a little different, spent a weekend off in Seattle, good food and beer (Hales and McMenamins), and slept right through my morning swim this morning. It's going to be a long week.

Was a good weekend in Seattle though. McMenamin's has a super sticky stout that use to be really coffee flavored, they've been working on it and it's now caramelly and gently sweet. Was a nice pint.
