I've been getting more and more tired even though I have been sleeping plenty, I'm wondering if maybe it's still not enough... (I would love the excuse to sleep more). How many hours do you sleep? Don't be afraid to add a nap a day or take an extra rest day. Make sure you get enough protein too. When I was training heavy I would get cravings for cottage cheese and eggs (not at the same time). I also added almonds, cashews, and/or sun flower seeds for an afternoon snack. |

8 Central Massachusetts, | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers Part 2 - OPEN I think I've fixed the settings. Wish there was a list for cubic feet of snow shoveled...think I might be near the top after this past week. By the way, just joined a gym with a pool so I can start working on the swim. Signed up for a 5k in April and a sprint in early June - both in Worcester, MA. Planning on one more sprint at the end of June and an oly in late August or early September. Trying to decide between a cheaper, hilly one that's relatively new in Keene, NH or an established one that's a lot more expensive and flatter (Lakeville, MA). |

I've heard that the marathon in an ironman is a lot easier than a stand alone marathon for average athletes because you plan on doing the run/walk thing. Having done a trail ultra recently I can tell you that I hurt a lot more after my last road half marathon where I went all out for 1:50 vs. my trail ultra where I went for a much slower off road pace for about 6 hours. |

It is depressing, but I'm going to do what the doc says and do a lot of crunches and see how it goes. If all goes well, I'll be ready to ride when the bike gets here in a few weeks! Here's my best shot at the stats. I spot checked Joe and Tay, and their stats are true. I can't vouch for the rest of you! If your stats are not posted, it's either because your logs were empty for February or because they were not made public. I'm also attaching an excel spreadsheet in case this copy-paste approach is not entirely readable. Aaron is returning to prior form. He's the man to beat. We have some serious competitors in the group, so it should be an interesting rest of the month to see who ends up on the top of the heap. Do some extra mileage for me! Cheers. I've been getting more and more tired even though I have been sleeping plenty, I'm wondering if maybe it's still not enough... (I would love the excuse to sleep more). How many hours do you sleep? I mostly sleep about 6hrs per night but I try to force myself to sleep longer. Today I did sleep in to 7:19 (7:15hrs sleep) which is late for me. I had to jump up and get ready to head off to the pool for my swim PDQ. If you're feeling tired I would first wonder if you're over working out. Maybe you're just due for a recovery week. I work out 8 to 11hrs/week (and later up to 12/13hrs for 3 weeks and then the 4th week I cut it back to 8hrs or less. (skip a swim/ shorter bike ride and shorter runs) When your workout hours build up you need the recovery weeks. Apparently, some athletes don't need the easy weeks but I know I do. If you're taking recovery weeks then aim for 6 to 8hrs sleep/night. All - I had a mediocre swim today. I felt really old and slow. I presume in part because I ran yesterday and a bit of a hangover from the cold(?) I'm just getting over. Plus, I registered for my GranFondo and the Across the Lake Swim. I'm looking forward to them both. |

Member 451 Gold Coast, Australia | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers Part 2 - OPEN So as promised, short bio time: NAME: Taringa (Anna) STORY: 42 years old, been tri training since November 2012. For me, Triathlon grew out of a long-term love of swimming and the desire to get fit, challenge myself, and be able to catch my (then 2 year old) daughter when she took off in the local park. I've learned to run, bought myself a reasonably decent bike, injured myself twice (both times from overuse), and had a lot of fun. Completed a few enticer tri's, a couple of sprints, a half marathon, and a few shorter distance running events. FAMILY STATUS: Married for 12 years, one 4 year old daughter. CURRENT TRAINING: I can usually manage about 6-8 hours a week. I'm fairly happy with my swimming, though I could be faster. My bike strength and endurance is lacking, and my running is pretty slow. I'm still coming back from my recent calf strain so I'm hoping I can pick the bike and run up a bit as I start to push the leg a little further. 2013 RACES: Half marathon in July after 2 months prep (that was painful, and slow), a sprint in October (better, but still slow), a 10km run in November and another sprint in December (good fun). UPCOMING RACES: I'm booked into a sprint tri in 2 weeks, the same course I raced in October last year. It'll be interesting to see what my times are like!. There's also a 10km run in March, another sprint in April, then 2 half marathons (maybe) over the winter and of course the half ironman in August. I'm not sure if my body will stand up to all the activity but I'll just give it a go. WEIGHTLOSS: Started at 69kg, dropped to 57, back up to 59 now. I'd like to be around 56-57kg, I'm hoping that will happen fairly naturally as the HIM trainng progresses. |

Tay Just an added info i am going to place my head on the chopping block here. Sorry, I looked into your training calendar. Seems to be your very consistent with your training. IT seems to be whatever you are feeling tired now is expected since every 4th week of a training plan significant slow down on workout is prescribed. I am feel the same every 4th week of my TP,and the start of the month should be a gradual increase in intensity again and slow down again . I am very sureitwont be long now you will start to pickup momentum again. Goodluck!!! Cheers!! |

Thanks -Anna Welcome to the group Anna. Ask lots of questions and we'll all give our 5 cent opinions. I'll be entering the Challenge Penticton HIM this year and I rode the bike relay in Challenge last year so our group will have 3 in the Challenge "family". I think that is a good thing. I think if we work on Carlo a bit he'll be willing to try a Challenge event too : ) I'm just trying to reply to everyone but I'm quite behind and just found your bio. What training plan are you following for your HIM? And, when is your HIM? It seems daunting when you start training but a good plan builds you up so that what seems impossible when you start becomes normal and comfortable in no time. Last year my 1st event was a duathlon. I thought it would be easy and it almost killed me (so I felt at the time). Four months later and several events finished my last event of the season was an Olympic race and with minimal training after my Challenge event a couple weeks before I just breezed through the Oly including my best run by far ever. The difference between the 1st and last was incredible. Edited by wenceslasz 2014-02-18 9:40 PM |
