Hi girls!

Cathy I am sorry you are hurt that stinks!!!!!

Mel you ROCK! that was great! Thanks for the advice on the phone this morning.

I rode the bike course for my first tri in June with a few others this morning. Surprisingly it was easy for me this morning, but of course I did not swim before it

I am glad I went, now I know what to expect as far as road and hills!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Heather

Way to go Mel. Third is awesome. I was just happy to finish. Looking forward to reading your race report.

The race I did a couple weeks ago posted the total time, but haven't seen the splits yet, which is very fustrating. I know they posted the splits for last year, so I am still hopeful that this years will get posted.

WTG Zoya! Awesome job, sounds like it was a tough course.

I just finished my race report.  They just posted the times today.

Z, I hear ya on the sore body parts.  I was feeling it during & after the race.  I think I need a new seat.  I have to wait to buy anything new.  My dh's not too happy with all the money I've spent for this.

Here are some pictures the photographer at the race took:

http://www.eventpictures.com

Click on Tri the Rock (That's the race I did) Bib# 66

The gal next to me in purple is my friend that was in our tri group.

Unfortunately, the photographer can't find my swim picture.  The only one where I knew she was there so I smiled.  The other pictures are pretty dorky since I didn't know she was there.  My husband took pictures but I need to figure out how to post them on here.  I think I need to resize them first?

Kaci, Thanks for the great advice about looking at the race as training with a lot of people.  That really helped keep my nerves calm.

Have a good one!

Z - are you seriously still numb?  If so that is not good!  Either you need a new saddle or a change in your seat height/position, or different shorts!  Ouch!

Mel, LOVE the pictures....you don't look like a dork!  You look like you had fun!  And yes, to put pics in threads, you have to resize them.  You write your post, and click the "attach file after posting" box at the bottom, then it prompts you to add a photo....I forget what the max size is....100-200kb?

My calf is improving, but still no running.    I'm going to try the trainer today.  I'm having a crazy week.....working on a manuscript for publication, recruiting patients for a study, writing another paper, an exam due by Saturday....oh yeah and work and family   BUT we're headed to the Outer Banks on Saturday and I cannot wait!  Oh and we're going to see Celtic Woman at Red Rocks tonight....my mother's day gift.  It's supposed to rain and be temps in the 40s-50s!  YIKES!

You probably irritated a nerve....give it a little time and see if it comes back....has that happened after regular bike training rides too?  or only since the race?

It was kind of painful during the rides and it was completely insane during the race... I was counting seconds to get off. Thanks Cathy!

if it doesn't get better, you may need to get checked!

But consider changing some things, like the saddle or shorts or height of your seat.  That should help!  Might take some trial and error though.

I have had my hands get numb, but it only ever lasted 2 days.

Zoya,

I used to have real problems with pain in the area after rides until I changed my seat. It made a world of difference. Up until the seat change, I thought I was going to have to give up riding it was so painful. I hope the numbness goes away soon for you, but maybe that is better than pain. Who knows...?

Congrats Mel and Zoya! Great job on your races! I will try to go see if I can find your race reports.

I started my 20 week HIM training plan this past Monday and I am glad I have some structure to my workouts as I felt like I was starting to slack. I signed up for this Half Ironman last October after having done a total of 3 sprint tri's ever! I am not sure what came over me, but now I have paid my entry fee and am on a journey. I really enjoy hearing about everyone else's journey as well. Happy training and thanks for sharing your stories.

Jill, I also find that having a plan to follow makes it easier to do it!  No plan, no workout....that is how it goes for me.    Good for you, you will do great in the HIM!

Is everyone doing ok?  I suddenly seem to have more time on my hands since I can't run!  argh!  I want to run!

Jill, Wow, HIM that's great.  I hope to do that someday.  I am thinking about doing an OLY on Aug 4th.  I just changed my membership on here to gold and am going to be following a Sprint to OLY bridge plan and I want to get a lot more serious about my training.  I definitely did not run enough in my training.

Cathy, How are you feeling?  Are you able to do any of your training?

Z- Try the "Terry - butterfly" seat. It is awesome. Only one I have used for years. I never get sore or numb. Also, get a good padded short. GITA (Giordana) Silverline, or CANARI Matrix Lyte are good shorts.

Completed my 2nd race last Sat......... 2 races back to back.........CRAZY. Might as well jump right in.

It went well. Was colder in the pool this time. I did have a tri shorts and shirt and that made a difference. I could not believe I was dry at about 4 miles in the ride. My finished time was 1:31:04. I did beat my time from the previous week, but the swim was 275 yds, not 400 yds. I did run/jog the whole 5K, which I did not do the first time. My legs felt good. I made sure to drink lots of water on the bike, then remember to take the GU packs before you need them. Basically need to take them about every 20-30 mins. They keep you from cramping and supposedly give you energy, but I don't really feel that part. I want them for replenishment. Afterwards, I take the Endurox R4, chocolate flavor drink. It is for recovery.

I finished 7 out of 10 for age group 35-39......... 122 overall of 153. I was happy with that.

Both daughters did the kids race. My youngest one won for her age group 9-10 girls.... She was the LAST one out of the pool, then passed 8 people on the bike.......Ran the whole way and came in first place. It was very exciting. Kayla is her name. (50 yd swim, 1.5 m bike, .75 run)

Erika finished 5th out of 11. (100 yd swim, 2 m bike, 1 m run) She did not have enough time on the bike to catch up to the faster swimmers. I was proud of her too. Remember last weekend, before this she made the Middle School Cheerleading Team, and competed in her first adult sprint distance. She does better on the longer ones, I think.

I will try to do my race report. Ya'll take care.

I am coming to Charlotte tomorrow to go to Carowinds with Erika's Chorus group.

No training this week. Gotta pick it back up next week hopefully.

Mel, I have the same tri suit as you. Cool pictures!

Jill, good luck in your training for the HIM. That is quite a goal and I am sure you will do great!

Christine, congrats on your 2nd race! And congrats to your daughters as well.

I got a new bike seat yesterday. I experienced major pains in the nether regions last weekend during our ride. I got the Bontrager Women's CRZ+ HC WSD Sport Saddle. Can't wait to try it out this weekend.

I also picked up some sport beans this week. I don't know much about when the appropriate time to eat one (or all?) would be, so any advice would be great.

I would also love some nutrition advice for those of you in here that have done a sprint tri....

Anything containing maltodextrin makes me VERY sick to my tummy and I noticed that it is in ALOT of the sports products. I have been using clif shots.....

Also----I have the same tri suit as Mel too that is funny we could be the COGIRL Team haha

Another question about training....did you all slack off at all the week before the tri? I feel like perhaps I am training too much so I am going to take a few days off. Any advice you all have would be appreciated!

I slacked off the week before my race.

I don't have the same tri suit, but I have the matching shorts & top from that line.

LOL, COgirl team.  You crack me up!  Heck, maybe I should go get this tri suit!  Is it a one or two piece?  I thought it was cute!

COgirl is headed to North Carolina tomorrow   If any of you NC folks plan on hitting the Outer Banks for Memorial day weekend, let me know!

Nutrition: In training....if I run more than one hour or bike more than 1.5 hours, I use gels or bloks.  And in that case, I take something in every 45 minutes.  Plus I use Accelerade to drink, but I need to switch to Gatorade Endurance b/c that is what all of my races use and I don't want to carry my own drink!

Nutrition for a sprint: I use a gel shortly before the start of the swim.  I use a gel with caffeine.  Caffeine, IF you don't use it regularly, gives you a performance boost.  Then I use a gel or bloks every 40-45 minutes.....more than that and my stomach gets upset.  So usually, I am using something while biking.  ALWAYS follow up your gels/bloks with water (not sports drink).....sports drinks mess with the absorption of the gels.  You can tape a gel to the top tube of your bike or there is a nifty little contraption called a Bento Box you can attach to the top tube to hold things.  See this  And keep drinking!  Depending on your race, you might need 1-2 gels for a sprint.  After the race, EAT SOMETHING!  carbs and protein is best.

Kateri, for your sport beans, about 100 calories is what you need to take in - ie, one serving.  every 45 mins or so.

When you do longer races, the nutrition gets more important....need more calories, more fluids, etc.  Sometimes 500-800 calories an hour!  Then you use drinks like Perpetuem, etc.  If it is VERY hot, you also need to replace salt and if you can't get it in your food, then Endurolytes is an option....also usually for longer races.

Back to work for me.
