Thanks for all the suggestions folks...I'm an afternoon exerciser and not a huge coffee fan (unless it's basically cafe au lait which generally isn't good for me) so I'll try to load up a bit more on fruit...I've been snacking about 90 minutes before I exercise so I think I'll try waiting until right before I leave the office so I'll have only eaten about 20 minutes before I start my workout...just when I start to metabolize a piece of fruit (excellent idea...been eating yogurt and it just doesn't do it for me) I'll be heading out so that might help give me a tad more energy. Probably throw in some cheese, too, for a little protein to hopefully keep the sugars up for a longer period of time...and then hope I burn through it (will obviously get easier the harder my workouts get).

Y'all are awesome. Thanks again for the advice.

For that, y'all have earned a picture...lessee...gonna try to upload it...haven't done that yet (I always steal pictures from the net)...crossing my fingers...yeah it worked...so, ta da, my legs buried under 20 lbs of pants!

Man I'm getting jealous of where you guys live. Not loving Maryland (although far better than where I grew up...New Jersey...no jokes now!) but this is where I just ended up after college and grad school and now it's the place with the most jobs for someone with my qualifications so I feel like I'm kinda stuck. I keep dreaming of moving to Albuquerque (and I've never even been there but after reading some tri blogs from people who live there I so wanna give it a go) if I could afford a move and find a job but not looking likely for a little while at least. I really crave mountains and love the desert.

Anyone else live someplace I can drool over? Post the pics!

Here's the lake I walk/run around most days (unfortunately no swimming allowed)...looks about like this right now with it being Fall:

And here is what it's going to look like in the near future (when I'll be inside on the treadmill most likely):

But at least there are ducks year round...and our fire department hasn't had to go out on the ice to rescue a duck in a few years so maybe they're getting smarter!

Bet that gave you a good workout though!

Yes, especially because it is guaranteed that the majority of calls will be in apartments on the third floor of a garden-style apartment where there are no elevators and the person will weigh at least 400 lbs and be barely mobile.

But they fortunately took pity on us poor EMTs and gave us new gear so we didn't have to wear the firefighter gear (new stuff is about as heavy as a pair of jeans and a fetching navy blue with yellow scothlite). And I broke down and bought some better boots so I didn't have to wear the super heavy uncomfy ones the county provides. Now I can get to the third floor without feeling like *I* should be the patient.

Put me down for another, very long 22 miles on the bike tonight. Low energy day for me today, probly because of the long brick yesterday. May have to tweak the schedule yet again, not sure im up to the loger brick scheduled for tomorrow. We shall see.

Ok, my favorite snack for running/biking is 1 cheeze stick, individualy wrapped 80 cal. I usualy have 1 per 45 min of workout if the workout is more than an hour. If it is not then well ya dont need anything. I can stretch it to around 90 min if its a longer run and I dont want to bring anything or slow down.

As for blood glucose I have read one thing that may be helpful. If you eat somethign with carbs in it 10 min or less before your workout, your body will motabolize the carbs differently then if you eat it longer before the workout. Basically your body uses the sugar kinda directly from your bloodstream and does not do the reflexive increase in insulin spike that it usualy does because there is a load on your system. I don't preload carbs as my workouts are typically less than 3 hours. Once I get in better shape I may start preloading carbs 10 min before exercize. I have experimented with it and I can tollerate 1 cheeze stick or 1 granola bar (130 cal) just before workout. However, if you have like a granola bar you need to slosh down like 10 oz of water to motablize it with or your stombach will leach water out of your blood to help... i have read. If I drink 10 oz of water and a granola bar preworkout, I slosh and can get a side ache. So like half a granola bar and 5 oz water to start is ok. Oh well I'm beat.

When i get really tired I just hitch a ride on my pet dragon...

I'm starting to feel much better.  It's been difficult to keep from exercising.  Well, today it wasn't to difficult.  I sat on my in a truck for 11 hours whilst moving my crap from OR to CA.  I will be making more trips in the near future.  I'll be driving down to San Diego for a LOOOOONG Thanksgiving holiday and then I will continue to move MORE crap from OR to CA.

Tomorrow, I plan on hitting the pool!  Yeah!!!!  I'll be exercising again!  The cough is still bad, but it's getting better.  I won't be running with the Wednesday night group this week.  Oh well.  I need to nurse my body back to health.

I hope everyone is doing good.  I'll start posting a bit more regularly again!  Cheers to everyone!

Went running this morning and hit 3.04 miles. I'm happy to say I upped my speed slightly and still felt fresh as a daisy at the end of the run. That makes me feel good, because I know I've come a long way from where I used to be.

    November challenge Numbers:

11.37 miles out of 40 miles = 28.4% complete. (Not great but I'm going to get there).

WOW x 2 Owl Girl...What a GREAT place to train. Just beautiful.

And Gator...I would never get any running/biking done just walking around looking at all the beauty in your area.

Been doing something everyday this week and have more planned. Trying to get caught up and maybe ahead for the holiday week. Weather is great here if we would just get some rain it would be wonderful.

    Stay safe all.

grandpa porn!! i actually laughed out loud!!
i just got back from running. it's SHOCKINGLY cold out just now, and believe it or not, it DROPPED 3 degrees while i was out there! it was 39 when i left and 36 when i got back!!
i was going to take my camera, but honestly, it was a big enough thing that i actually just went, with all the chaos going on, i just threw my running clothes on and snuck out the door-i did a little sprinting again, which for some reason just makes me almost giddy. i LOVE it. so my distance wasn't great. i'd had WAY to much time off this week, with the sick kids and all.
    gotta log my stuff.
have a great day you wild hippos you

tracy- i went there once (to where the redwoods are) when i was a kid. it was AWESOME. i can't imagine running there, it would be SO cool!! i felt small just looking at the photo!!

just an update on our teams stats...

they only had me down for 300 yards swimming, instead of 3000 yards swimming.

quite a change as that percentage will go from 6% to 60% in that category!

Added to it today with another couple miles biking and walking, and another 1080 yards swimming
