Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Woohoo!! I ran 12 miles today, not fast mind you (10:45 mile), so I feel fairly confident that I could finish a 1/2 Mary. I remember when I barely got through this same route on my bike. Oh yeah, I didn't even stop to take a cigarette break...LOL. |

I am thinking by Sunday you will be back up. Let me know Sunday's weight. Yes I picked my words carefully in case I have to eat them later. I'll take that challenge, wink, wink, nudge, nudge! This wk, even before wed, I was already kicking it up a notch by adding two other routines to the daily training regiment, to see if I could blast through the 189- 190 bench mark. I had to take tonight off, however, I'm just exhausted. I've already amended my logs to reflect the changes. But for Fri. and Sat. it's back to kicking it up a notch. Might even add some extra cardio on my regularly scheduled day off (Sun). But, Sun, it is I'll let you know.Josh, what's your BF%? I'm just wondering because with the amount of stuff you're doing, I'd think you'd be losing more - are you just trading fat mass for muscle mass? I think, and I'm guessing when I say this, my BF is somewhere between 23-25 %. And yes, I too think I'm more than likely just trading muscle for fat. This was one of the issues I brought up with Saling when I asked about inputting weight into one of those online BF calculaters and how they could be off if a person weighs themselves yet is becoming more and more defined. So I think my BF% is dropping while staying in the same weight range, just not exactly sure what it is. It was around 25-27% But I've been losing so... |

( like weight watchers?) And are you seeing a physician regularly or a nutritionist who is not biased towards this program? (third party). i146q - 2008-03-19 8:55 PM I agree, it's your choice and you certainly made an informed one! I know it's really hard to stick by your guns sometimes. Do you stay on this eating plan until you get to where you want to be? Yeah, you do. Well, at least I'm planning too. Obviously, things might change down the road, but I'm planning on staying on it until the end of this year, and then re-evaluating where I'm at. I am losing weight fast though, so the re-evaluation point might come sooner, which would be great - cause I'm definitely not planning on doing this forever. They have nutritionists on staff where you can post questions if you have them, and a number you can call if you need to. Which was one of the things that attracted me to the program. Also, after researching the different options (Jenny Craig, Nutri-Systems, etc.) Medifast just seemed from both a medical standpoint (they've done studies with it at Johns Hopkins, for example) and from an effectiveness standpoint (reviews from people said it worked fast and the best) that it was the best choice. No, I haven't seen my regular doc since I've gone on this program, but I'm feeling really good generally. If I start having bad physical symptoms, that would be another matter. One of the VERY positive things that's happening for me is that I am no longer having GI distress on a regular basis. I have a mild case of IBS, and before about once a week or so I'd be feeling sick/stomach cramps/GI issues over something I ate. I haven't had ANY of that on this program except the one time that I had ham for dinner. So, now I know that ham is something I can't eat, and I'm really excited about being able to finally identify my trigger foods once and for all. To be honest, I had talked to my doc about my weight issue last time I saw her and she had NOTHING to offer me in the way of help or good advice. I also spoke to her about the IBS stuff and again NOTHING. So, at this point, I kinda feel like I could really care less about what my doc thinks about what I'm doing. It's working and I generally feel good, and that's what matters. Yeah your right, I was just curious since the plan you're doing is restrictive, and some possible side effects may arise from them. I thought that an independant third party might be a responsible approach to the nutrition thing. But you've got a good head on your shoulders and your doing fine. Carry on!. ![]() |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() stephlari - 2008-03-21 1:41 PM Is it too late to join the madness? ![]() So at the begining of the month I weighed 149lbs and decided I wanted to lose weight but I had some trouble getting started, so 2 weeks later I was still at the same point, maybe a bit heavier (by like a pound) but now I've managed to stick to a healthy diet and I'm down to 147lbs as of this morning! So my goal for March has been attained already in terms of weight, but now I'm continuing with the healthy eating strategy and I'm hoping to drop another pound or so by the end of the month, so that would make my goal weight 146 lbs for March 31! Great work , keep it up, you'll get there! We're all rootin' for ya! ![]() |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() tmason - 2008-03-21 7:47 PM Another VO2 test today. Got to Max HR and VO2 this time. VO2 had only a slight increase from Octobers test and HR down 2 beats to 178. So only marginal improvement which is disappointing. Think I need to do some mental training and find ways to push harder. Also need to lose that non athletic chubby junior high kid. You know, the one who keeps getting hit in the face with the volleyball/softball/basketball... you know the one. On the plus side, I'm down 2 more lbs! Cool!, keep it up. You're doing well in some depts (weightloss), but decent in others, and that's o.k. In time the rest will fall into place. One thing that helped me with target HR is learning to breath while under stress, i.e. running or cycling. You can also try and target specific heart rate zones to increase endurance and stamina as well as to condition the HR to stay at a specific rate. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() saling-- Thanx for keeping an eye on me, in my logs. Turns out, I took another day off last night. First, I've already hit my quota for the wk. on the number of routines I was supposed to do. Secondly, I had to pick my dad up this morning (early) from the airport, and since I usually do my training in the wee hrs of the morning (between 3am and 5am), I didn't want to overexert myself and be late for him. I just decided to switch up the schedule, since there's always tonight, and I can always add Sunday if I want. ![]() |

It has a pretty good suspension system. I have to play with it some more, right now it's like riding in wet sand since the compression spring for the rear suspension is too soft... I don't know I'm still adj it to where I think it will give me the most efficiency. |

Now as far as your weight loss achievement is concerned, you should be diligent to protect the loss you've gotten so far, and either work past it or try to maintain until it's time to advance once again. |

It's kind of funny with docs...after I first started losing weight 2 years ago, I went to the doctor's office for another reason and my doc (a slightly overweight woman) asked me what I was doing because she can never lose weight herself and she wanted advice to give other patients. ![]() That's kind of funny, made me think, "the blind leading the blind" by standards of 2 yrs ago like you said. ![]() |

Thanks for the encouragement! I wish I'd get some from my coach at the club but I guess it's not his forte... ![]() You're right, there's more to be achieved so I have to keep working at it! It's not time to slack off! |
![]() ![]() |
Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yes, there's always more or something else to achieve. But with weightloss there is also a fine line between keeping your metabolism engaged (nutrionwise) and over exerting yourself where the loss in weight might be muscle instead of fat. The key is too eat healthily, work on training (efficient training mind you) because anything more and its wasteful. Be sure to take your scheduled breaks (days off). They are crucial in allowing the muscle fibres repair themselves. This will also help in allowing you to maintain at the current efficient level of training you're already exhibiting. In other words don't burnout. You want to be like a locomotive that, once you've reached an efficient speed by burning cal. and training, anything more or less and you'll be sacrificing one for the other. This is where people hit plateaus, and become discouraged... |
