My goal was 70 miles for the month I am at 44.2 miles so definitely on track - would like to make it 90 for the month - we'll see. You'll definitely make 70 miles at the rate you are going. If you don't slack off, you should make the 90. Good work! |

Expert 1226 Chicago | Subject: RE: Ghosts and Ghouls Team Thread Okay. So I emailed my good ole tri coach about the drama that went down during the marathon. He's suggested I consider running another marathon in two and a half weeks. The monumental marathon in Indianapolis (in it's inaugural year, no less). Good idea or bad idea? What would you do in my shoes? I'm okay with my season being over despite being severely annoyed with how race day went down. But we're trying to save money so I can register for IMAZ on 11/24. And registration for this is $75 (so it's a decent chunk toward the IM entry fee). We'd have a place to stay. So we're only paying for gas money. The temps should be dramatically cooler, and ideal for my running abilities. The race sounds pretty good. Relatively flat with a few hills in the mix. 24 water stations (wtf!? that's freakin' ridiculously awesome!). They're offering race morning pickup, which is nice because we can just leave right after work on Friday, run Saturday morning and then drive home to Chicago. Am I crazy for thinking this? Or should I not press my luck and risk injury with my calf being temperamental? |

You have trained already...but will the damage from Sunday have healed...and money is always a consideration...uggghhhh. I guess I would do it because I would not sit well with the annoyance from last weekend.

Personally, I'd be worried with the calf and not wanting to injure it, especially if you want to do an IM next year. |

DON'T go into it doubting your calf or thinking you might injure yourself. Self fullfilling prophecy and all that stuff. You'll favor it and could cause more harm. |

My first marathon (NYC) was a complete disaster. I did everything wrong. Wound up walking pretty much the entire second half of the race. I was totally bummed. People told me just let it go but in my mind it was unfinished business. I had trained hard for this? Anyway, 3 weeks later, I decided the night before the Philly marathon to drive down and sign up. It was the best choice I ever made. That one, I ran like I should. I wasn't overwhelmed by the crowds of NYC, I was able to run "my" race, and it really felt like how I expected Marathon #1 to go. To me, NYC just fit in like another long run in my training schedule because I hadn't killed myself in that race. Expectations were totally removed. No pressure of people knowing I was running. This was all about just me and the marathon. I was so incredibly giddy after the race. One of the best experiences of my life. So, bottom line - if injuries are not a problem, I think you should go for it and exorcise those marathon demons that you aren't willing to admit you have. Face it - you're writing about it. You have all these details. You've figured out all the logistics. You DO want to run it. Just do your normal recovery as if you're not running this next marathon. Believe me, you will keep your fitness level. You'll be rested and your calf will be fine. See how you feel this weekend - perhaps an 8 miler. Next weekend, do a 12-15ish. Then taper. It really is amazing what a little bit of rest can do. And by the way, we'll take up a collection from the G&G team for your race fee if that's what's holding you back.

This weekend, I have an 8 mile run. I'm planning on going to the farmer's market tomorrow morning. One of the last of the season, so I want to get some buffalo meat and some cheese from one of the local farms and get their info so I can get some this weekend. A friend is having a party tomorrow night. On Sunday, I'm thinking of going to see Hamlet. My friend is Ophelia, so I am really excited. |
