Jenna,
With the strike being resolved in Toronto it looks like your Toronto tri will be on. I'm still keen to come out and watch.

John

I'm racing on the 16th, as well.  We'll be swimming in the Indy canal.  Last year it was a bit mucky - this year will probably be muckier.  Nothing like algae and duck poop to make a swim more interesting!  At least you can't get too far off course - it's only about 40 foot wide.

My next race is on the 8th. It's a little shorter than my first one - 500 yd / 15 mi / 5K.Emily, congrats on your race. Fi, congrats on your new ride. We definitely need to see pics. Went out for a 3.5 mile run tonight. I'm getting closer to that next running milestone - 9 minute miles.

I will upload some pics tonight.
Went out this morning. After I had some trouble with the floor pump - I managed to deflate the tire completely.
The ride was  amazing. One fast bike. Put a wireless comp on it and my cadence was btwn 90 - 100 the whole time. First time in aeros and stayed in them 95% of the time.
So comfortable  - had a one hour bike fit yesterday. Highly recommend.

Looks like we are all coming along.

Sorry I've been MIA! Last week was a really crazy one for me - I missed half my workouts. Good work racers and I can't wait to see the bike, Fi! Who needs a cottage anyway??

I'm running in a relay team this weekend and then have my next race the following weekend. After that it's just gearing up for the OLY! August is looking like it's going to be a good month for training. I might be going back to work early in September, so I should make the most of it while I can.

Keep up the good work everyone!

Yes, a lot of your logs are looking great!! Some excellent training and racing going on!

I...am exhausted. I will be glad for taper week next week, although I will be antsy. My wife will probably be glad to wave goodbye when I drive to Colorado for my triathlon.

Does anyone in the group train with a Garmin 305 or similar?  I couldn't pass up the price at Best Buy right now ($130), so I picked up one.  Having never trained with GPS or an HRM, not sure where to even begin.  More interested in the HRM feature, although the GPS will be nice.  I've started searching here for posts on using it, but I would have to spend all day on here to read 10% of the threads.

Been kinda quiet here for the past couple weeks.  How's everyone been doing?

do a search for "zone training" or "heart rate zones", and also "threshold field tests".

Basically, what you will do is a threshold test to determine your fitness for both bike and run (pretty much a 30 minute TT in each, but find the protocols), and once you have that, it should give you a decent idea of your top heart rate, and you can assign zones from that.

Good luck to all racing this weekend!

John

Well, hopefully everyone else's race is better than mine.  Thanks to Mother Nature, I got a very expensive t-shirt and a water bottle.  Thunderstorms 30 minutes after the race was supposed to start caused the event director to cancel the race before it even started.  Oh well, I guess.  Probably wasn't as prepared for this one as my first.  At least I signed up for another one in 4 weeks, so I guess I have to get after it.

That's a bummer.  I've lucked out so far and never had a race called or turned into a du.  I've had to race in crappy, cold, rainy weather...but I still got to race.

Keep at the training and rock 'n roll in your next race!

Hi guys. Sorry to hear about the race cancellation.
So the race went well. I thought I might do it in about 1:45 but managed a 1:32:47. Happy as two weeks ago I did the bike and run in 1:31 - with a 7 min transition.

Will check results later for offical splits and place.

Aww, that really blows. I guess you'll have to kick it up a notch for your next race!

I'm doing the run leg of a relay team tomorrow and it's supposed to be 35 degrees (which is Celcius - and very hot!). Should be fun. Hope everyone else gets some good racing or training in this weekend.

Congrats on on your race and for doing it quicker than you thought.  I do have to ask, what happened in the transition?

Yep. That does suck, but I'd rather have it cancelled pre start than 1/2 way through (That happened to me last year.)

You'll rock the one in 4 weeks, though!

No, no, no. THe 7 min transition was during the reconaissance ride/run. I had to put my bike in the car and I changed into run shorts.
My transitions in the race weren't too bad (T1 1.33; T2 1.43)
My splits were swim: 750m in 13:50min; 1:51/100m
                        bike: 20km in 44:58min, 26.7 k/hr
                        run: 5km in 30:45, 6:09 k/hr

Hi,
So with this spring/summer mentoring now ended what does everyone want to do - we have the option of continuing on as a group, with or without John.
I still have races up until Sept 19th. What about everyone else?

After all the support and advice I've gotten from here, I'm not planning on going anywhere.  If we stay together as a group, great.  If not, we can always stay in touch through inspires.  My preference would be to keep the group together and head to the archive forum.

Hey all, I hope everyone is doing well.  I've been super busy in the last few weeks with prepping for vacation, the actual vacation, coming home to find that I had a few hundred $ worth of yet to be determined charges on my debit card, and prepping for a race Sunday.

Anyhow, I should hopefully be back to my regular not around nearly enough schedule.

Take care!
