My thoughts exactly for today. Except I should have ridden early when the weather was nice instead of being forced inside now due to flash thunderstorms I hate not being able to complete a workout as planned. Good thing I have tomorrow off, I will just switch the days around. |

Member 69 Not where I want to be... | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Ran 15.78 miles today in the heat and was waiting for the rain that started right after I walked in the house, go figure...It was Africa hot out there!! I am starting to look at times and trying to see what a good goal would be. Finishing is the over all goal but I would like to be done in 14 hrs or less. Every time I ride the course it looks like I will be having a 7 hr ride. Todays 15.78 mile run was 3:18. My wife says I am stressing to much. |

DO NOT do any training until you are no longer sore from the race. SERIOUSLY. I crashed in the Columbia Triathlon last sunday in the rain (too fast around a turn and landed on my right hip). I was sore sunday night, and monday, and tuesday but thought it was just soreness. I knew it would hurt to run since I was really sore upon standing and taking the first few steps when walking so I decided to bike and did 64 miles over mon and tues... well once the "soreness" was over I realized I had jacked up my hip really bad.. not sure if it was actually from the crash or from biking while I was still sore from the crash. I finally went to my chiropractor on Thursday and he said the crash completely threw my pelvis out of alignment and chances are biking and walking with the pelvis so out of whack strained the muscles. I'm completely sidelined now limping around my house waiting for my massage and acupuncture appointments this week and PRAYING that they will get the muscles to loosen up and heal QUICKLY. I'm completely devastated and worried about my upcoming rides/races especially since this was supposed to be a key week for me. I know it's not what you were looking for [I don't have any spare parts, sorry] but my advice - from the bench - is to rest until you are no longer sore from the crash (it took about 2 days for my neck to tighten up) and then you can evaluate if you should do the race this weekend. |

I did the same thing last year about three months out from B2B. You will be fine. Work on what you can and don't try to work on what hurts. I landed on my forearm and hip. The hip healed really quick, but my forearm and shoulder didn't. I couldn't ride in aero for a few weeks or swim. I ended up running and biking what I could with out pain for 3 weeks, and then I eased back into it. Honestly, I doubt it had an impact on race day. Sure I missed some training, but I also rested my muscles that were flat wore out. So there was a negative and a positive. The most important thing is to remember to be careful. We are all logging a lot of miles, and a wreck can lead to a DNS. |

My kids are headed to my parents for a month and a half. We celebrated my birthday early and went to a movie before they go. I love spending time with my family but why do I feel guilty about missing my training? |

I don't log times for my swims, only distance, unless it's a TT or continuous swimming. For cycling my training plan called for 1hr mountain bike ride on a wednesday. WTF? I dont own a mountain bike, nor would I have time to go out to a trail and ride mountain on a weekday. I turned that into a short ride and then transition practice. I followed every run workout but my calender said I didnt get my planned time because some of the days were speed workouts with a set distance and an estimated time instead of a set time with an estimated distance. June challenge should be to miss less than 3 workouts, with a goal of not missing any. |
