Have you installed it yet? Wondering if the gaps in the gearing are annoying or not. I think I'll probably go with the 13-27 at least. QUOTE]
I have installed it. It works pretty well. A little gear jumping that i will tweak soon.
This is like the one i got:

When I first started to run I was going to a track workout and I kept getting sore and slightly injured legs. I thought it was just because I was new. I'm guessing now that my track practice days are over as they run way to fasy for what I can do. I just need to increase distance without regard to time. I'm still planning on sprints and olympics but I really want to start to train for 1/2 IM's right now and I don't think that the track workouts will help in this. I am also planning on doing my 1st marathon next year so i don't know how I'll train for that yet.

This site:

Just to confuse me further Has a 13-26 and a 13-29 (I thought my choice were 27 or 29? I guess not?) for the Campy V 10sp. ($11 shipping makes these $60.00 which sounds excellent)

1) What is a lock ring... Do I need one?
2) How can I tell if these cassettes come with one?

I bought my road tires from these guys as the prices are really good and they got here in about a week or two so I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from them again even though they are in France.

The lock ring is what is holding your cassette onto the freewheel/hub.  You already have one holding your existing cassette on, so no you don't need one.

But, you will need a special tool in order to take your cassette off (it's very very easy to do, so don't bother paying a bike shop to do it, just go buy the two tools you'll need).

1) Lock Ring Remover: http://www.parktool.com/products/detail.asp?cat=4&item=FR-5 just be aware there are some different sizes on these, so take the bike (or just the rear wheel) over to a shop and have them point out which size you need.
2) Chain Whip: http://www.parktool.com/products/detail.asp?cat=4&item=SR-1   This holds the cassette in place so it doesn't spin when you're trying to take the lock ring off.

ETA: oh, you will need a wrench (like an adjustable wrench) in order to spin the lock ring remover to take it off/put it on.  There's a good picture in that second link of how to use the chain while whip and the lock ring remover with a wrench that should help you understand what they actually do.

PennState - 2010-04-22 11:52 AM Genetics do play a huge role in rhr. Your fitness level does play a role as well. Essentially there is a genetic pre-set range you rhr can be in. If you are fit it will be at the lower end. One of the greatest milers in US history was a guy named Jim Ryan. He broke the 4 min/mile as a highschooler in the 1960s and competed later in the Olympics. His resting HR was 90! He was much more fit than anyone on this site but had a high rhr.

random facts about Jim Ryun for you (completely unrelated to the RHR):  not just "a high schooler who broke 4 minutes", but the "FIRST US high schooler to break 4 minutes" ;-)  Post running career, he served 10 years in the US Senate as a representative for Kansas.  I believe USAT just made him a board member or something like that as well.

Thanks for all the bike help guys.

RHR: Mine went from somewhere in the 70-90s to 48-55 Ambient, but yeah how much yours changes and how low it goes is purely genetic so I wouldn't read too much into it.

I remember one time while I was giving blood a coworker overheard my rhr at 38 and told everyone something was wrong with me and that I may have cancer!

I don't think anyone actually explained it to her.

furiousferret - 2010-04-21 10:17 PM Took the night off, spent half of it making my new avatar; I don't look as fast as Dylan or Fred, but pretty fast nonetheless.

Figured I don't need to risk getting sick, any illness at this point would cause problems.

haha thanks. Is that a 2XU top?

Yes, well, its a one piece.

there are some pics of me from last race.

I know this sounds incredibly vain, but I look fat in those pics!  I think all the water and my breathing 'extends' my belly, because it hasnt been that big for a few months...

I'm also not sure why they were taking photos on a hill;  I was aero for 90% of it and the one point I'm not they take a pic.

I couldn't quite pull off the Usain Bolt pose either =\

Those pics are great! I have been too affraid to try a 1-piece/getting bunched up/being uncomfortable/bathroom issues. I have the two peice version of the 2XU in 3 diff colors. However...i ALWAYS get that sunburn stripe where my shorts separate from my top...

Who goes 1 piece vs 2 piece??

1 piece vs 2 piece?

Def 2 piece for me at IMLP.  Last year I was in women's transition area.  The women who could change out of their jersey and cycling shorts loved a fresh pair of clothes to do the marathon in.  I did a 1 piece in a sprint and thought it was a-maaazing!  I far cry from the tanktop/sports bra and tri short days!

Two piece tri suit all the way! My amazingly comfy Sugoi tri shorts, and I'm actually getting a new custom Golden Gate Tri Club (my club) tri top from Pactimo this weekend. I have weird body proportions so one pieces never fit right, and I feel like my tri shorts contain my belly chub a bit better.

For bike shoes I wear standard Shimano mountain bike shoes. I love being able to run around in my shoes without worrying about my cleats, though I expect I'll be wanting road or tri shoes as my distances on the bike increase.

I go two piece, just because the one pieces are a tad expensive.  One day I'll try the one pieces out though.  I hate how some of the two pieces decide to show my midriff, some shirts ride up and it annoys the heck out of me during the run.  Maybe this summer I'll make the switch.

For shoes: Sidi Genius 5 Pro Carbon Road bike shoe with Shimano cleats/pedals.

I use Sidi T1 shoes with Loom cleats/pedals.

I attended a class/focus group put on by Mavic at my LBS about aerodynamics. After the 3 hour class they said "ohh...by the way..for coming you get a free pair of shoes". They are the top of their line tri shoes!
