alright.

heres a few thoughts about thinking.

we are all very undisciplined when it comes to our thought life.  and our thoughts have a very powerful influence over our moods and our behavior.

so how do we go about 'reigning in' our thoughts.

first, become aware of our thoughts.  hey wait a minute i thought you were gonna help me to stop thinking not think more about thinking?

one thing is true, we can never fully stop the flow of thoughts.  but what we can do is become more aware of our thoughts and slow the process down.

and then after we've grown in our level of awareness, we can begin to put gaps in the flow of thoughts.

in particular we want to bring a level of awareness our thought patterns.  often times we have recurring thoughts that can overwhelm us, even evoke anxiety in us.  we can train ourselves to listen and then to think differently.

second, we can begin to discipline our minds.

the temptation is try to make ourselves stop thinking. but that only makes things worse.  what we need to do is quiet our mind. as we are able to quiet our mind, we put 'gaps' in our thought stream.

MEDITATION/PRAYER is an excellent to tool.  if nothing else or if you dont consider yourself particularly spiritual, when you are caught in a thought stream, begin to focus on your inhalation and exhalation.  breath in, breath out.

when find yourself drifting back to the thought stream (you will.dont worry.we all do.you havent failed.its human nature), refocus on your breath.  IN AND OUT.

focusing on your breath will put a gap in the flow of thoughts.

you will always experience a flow of thoughts.  it cant be helped.  but what you can do is learn to discipline your mind enough that when you are caught up in the flow, you can quiet those voices in your head through meditation.

i will practice this in my training session.  instead of focusing on my breath i will focus on the cadence of my feet when im running.  or on the hum of the wheel or frame of my bike when im riding. or the rhythm of my stroke on the water when im swimming.

theres lots of ways to meditate.  theres lots to use as a focus of our meditation.  find what works for you.

namaste.

thanks Stacie.  all good advice.  Will have to try.  I've often thought about taking a course in meditation.

So here's how my doctor's appointment went this afternoon.

First, she read the results of the EP study. She was surprised, as were the cardiologists that they did not find what they were looking for. Based off of my history they thought it was a pretty clear cut case.

The 9 days of heart monitor showed some minor arrhythmia's, some missed beats, some extra beats, but nothing significant. My doc is going to talk to the cardiologist and they are going to decide if I should try wearing the monitor again for 3 weeks. She believes the monitor was faulty, that's why it was randomly beeping.

If the heart tests don't show anything by the time I go back in 8 weeks we are going to start looking deeper into other things, like the hemochromotosis, possible high blood sugar, possible low blood sugar, and other items.

I have an ear infection. I have a sinus infection.

I go back in 8 weeks and have some more bloodwork done.

I think that's about it for now.

i read the weather report.  60 and sunny tomorrow.  i jumped around saying i get to ride my bike outside over and over.

my kids think im crazy.

i have some running around to do today.

mtg w a clients parent this morning.  this case keeps me up at night.  bugger.

on to the Y to swim.

I GOT TWO NEW SUITS AND NEW GOGGLES.  should be fun to swim with all my new schwag.  no new Zoomers though.  i'll have to order those off of swimoutlet.

then off to get fingerprinted.  (i didnt do it yesturday)

and then to the fabric store for velcro to finish a visual checklist for the client that's giving me fits.

Good morning Ghoulies!

I'm home today with a sick kiddo. I'm not feeling so great myself.

We are both still in bed, and we're watching cartoons. I do need to get some laundry put away today, but other than that we don't plan on doing a whole lot.
