I hope to improve the time during next month's test!! I hit the roads at 6:15 this morning wearing a tank top and shorts. The weather is beautiful here! 12 miles in the books. I came home and my kids had some gifts on the kitchen table. My favorite was a poem written by my 6 year old (Conrad): I love my mom. I love to see my mom play video games with me. I love to hear my mom's voice. I love the smell of my mom's hair. I love to taste my mom's cabbage. I love to touch my mom's hand. I love my mom. Isn't that the cutest thing in the world? It made me cry.
That's so cool! |

I had a good time, too, and that's really what it's about for guys like me bringing up the rear. The best part is, my friend who is fast (he was 1hr 15secs) gets done in plenty of time to come cheer me on at the finish! |

That is crazy! I've never seen a triathlon with a pool swim before. There is one lady in the vid who is just walking across the pool. LOL! Congratulations on your finishing time! You did a great job! |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED 1:30 on trainer this morning & then short speed session in the pool this evening. I have to wait to swim until I get the kids into bed. I have a really hard time motivating myself to go to the gym at 8 p.m. after a long, long, long day with these kids. LOL My mother is coming into town for my half marathon next weekend, so I have to clean my home this week, too. My mom has OCD and compulsively cleans, so I do need to make an effort. I am a total slob and like it that way. My bathroom looks like it ought to be part of a frat house or something With the training and the parenting, I have so little time to do housework. It's all I can do to cook a healthy meal for this family every night, keep up with mountain after mountain of laundry, and keep this joint cleaned up. Bare bones here. What kind of watches do you all use in the pool? I'm pretty sure my Garmin doesn't work for swimming, and I'm not liking the cheap Timex one I've been using (which shuts off during half my workouts). I'm in the market for something new here......

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Wisconsin 1/2 Marathon I had another PR for myself. I thought by about 1-2 minutes, but it was only 11 seconds ... still a PR. I ran 2:36:59. It was a gorgeous course, 100% recommend and will defnitely do that again. I stuck to my strategy running about 12 minute or so miles. Started getting an arch blister around 5, stopped to tighen up my shoes (funny how hard it is to tie your shoes while in a race). Even saw a fox on the course, very cool. Had some gas left in the tank at 10 miles and knew a PR was within reach if I pushed it. I am still very sore ... likely from not getting in the all the training. As for my hip it hurt like hell the first 3 miles and I considered dropping out feeling like there was not way I could endure that for 2.5 hours. They it just went away . . . a sign it will return with vengence later!!! Still very sore. Really great race though!!! I was actually lapped by the marathoner as I was sprinting towards the finish and he had a better sprint!!! |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Not totally abnormal to see people walking the swim in the pool tri. It is pretty common, especially with newer people that can't swim or don't have the endurance. |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Really??? We have lots of them here in Illinois, especially for the early tris - same as indoor tris really. They usually set a number of laps to be completed (usually sprint only it is 8-10 laps or so) and time you, then you run out to transition outside and finish the race outside. You have to give an estimated time to finish those laps when registering so they know how to seed people in waves. Wetsuits are not allowed in these. For kids triathlons, they may snake the younger kids up and down the lanes til finish, then send them outside. My nephew has done this. |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Just wondering with the half marathons . . . when does it stop hurting or being sore for days after. How many do I have to do??? I am really enjoying these though . . . If the weather does not warm, I may skip the early tris (water is still freezing) and do a few more halfs. |
