jsklarz - 2012-01-03 1:43 PM So what does that mean for me?  do I go with the Rudy/Kelly plan of about 4-5 h. biking, 3-4 hours running and 1-2 hours swimming?
Have you ever considered taking up chess? If you have an average of 10-12 hours to train that's fine. I would try and swim 2-3 per week for 45-60min. with challenging sets. Run 4 times (one short, easy run off a bike no more then 20min, one where to do a little pace/interval/tempo work and another just at a steady aerobic pace for 45min., and a long run of 8-10 miles), and bike 3 times (twice during the week where one is steady effort a below your Half IM effort and one where to do some work at Half IM and Olympic effort as intervals or tempo that are about 90min., and one long ride where you get up to 60 miles as you near the race). So that's what, about 12 hours? The key, don't dick around in the pool or on the bike. DO WORK.

how did 8-10 hours become 12?  you're starting to sound like kelly!  I get the point.  I dont do no dickin' round

chess is a great game.  I need to teach my daughter how to play.  everyone should play a little chess and poker.

1 hour on the trainer tonight. Not too fast. Under 17mph but kept avg HR at 136. Also got in 30 mins of ST at the gym today followed by a 20 min "jog". Started reading "Iron War" on the trainer tonight. Story of Dave Scott and Mark Allen in the 1989 Ironman Championships. Only about 10% ton. Tough to keep the kindle steady on the trainer. But I made it work.

Morning, peeps!

Got in an easy ride this morning, and I'll probably hit the tready for a short run later.  Didn't make it to the gym last night because my car was dead.  AAA had to come dig it out of a foot of snow and take it to Honda.  Now I have to squeeze all 4 kids in my husband's piece o crap car while he's stuck taking the bus to work.  My car isn't even 4 years old!  Bah!

My average heartrate was 125 for 20 mph this morning.  It's always so low on the trainer and then the second I'm out on actual roads, it hits the roof.  Can't quite figure that one out.

Let me know what your opinion is of Iron War once you finish it.  I read You are an Ironman and thought it sucked.  Moved on to I'm Here to Win, and I'm actually interested in what Chris has to say.  He sure loves himself though.  LOL

Not sure why that is Jen. I'm the opposite. HR seems lower outdoors than in the trainer for me. And opposite of that for the treadmill. For whatever reason I feel like I work so much harder on the treadmill and the HR spikes. Weird. Yup, You Are an Ironman was not very good. I'm here to Win was pretty good. He sure does love himself but confidence seems to be a big part of this sport.

I'm a slug, didn't make it to the pool last night.  It's so freaking cold here, the thought of getting into water just does not appeal to me.  I know I'm just making excuses.  Maybe tonight, or maybe this weekend when it's supposed to be warmer I think.

I did start core work last night and my husband joined me.  We did the Around the World workout that's here on BT somewhere, and it wore me out!  I feel so out of shape.

This morning I was up early for a trainer ride.  I did another TrainerRoad workout.  I love TrainerRoad.  Being able to see your virtual power is pretty cool.  On my own I would probably start slacking off when I was getting uncomfortable, on TrainerRoad I keep going because the intervals are not over.  Once I start the ride, there's no going back!  It's awesome.

I followed the ride with a 3 mile t-run in the 20 degree chill outside.  But I'd rather be outside bundled up, anything to avoid the treadmill.

Are you nervous riding outside because of traffic or something? That might raise the HR a little

Jeff-y, I know you want to do the Quassy HIM, but I wonder if you would be happier having a really solid olympic race?  That course is no joke and I think there is a minimum volume wise that you need to do to be sucessful (not to finish, we know you can finish) but to have a solid race a significant PR over last year.

8 mile easy run this morning.  My girls stole my Garmin yesterday and now I can't find it.  So glad they're back to school today.  Between that and them taking their food to eat it on my bed I may have killed them yesterday.  Less worried about the bed though.  :P

Holy cow the park was crowded with walkers this morning.  Normally resolutionists don't effect me at 5 AM, but they were out in full force this morning.  I mean good for them, but it makes me want to go find a back road to run on.

my HR does the same thing outside.  i thought that was normal but obviously not.  i guess going to have to slow down my speed to a crawl outside to keep my HR in Z2.

Nah, I'm doing griskus oly 2 weeks later, same venue, similar course.  Might as well do the HIM.  Bike bike volume can increase once i can get outside in spring.  End of April/May i can likely get to 12 hours/week as i can ride outside.  thus instead of a 1.5-2 hour long ride i can do a 3-4 hour long ride.

I say go for it. Do a short, slow run. It will at least give you a gauge of where you are on the IT band. Are you stretching alot and rolling the IT band everyday? Mine can still get cranky after a long run if I am not rolling enough. These are things that you can continue and can make all the difference when you come back full force.

True about the hills, which are all over around here.  No, I was not riding hard this morning.  You guys told me not to do Jorge's program.

G'day everyone,

Well real life is starting to get in the way already down here, and it's not even the end of the first week back at work yet! I'm going to be heading out of town for 3-4 days on Friday so goodbye my planned weekend long ride.

So we've had a bit of a reschedule, long ride moved to midweek, and a big day planned for today, not ideal but I should be able to get most of my work in, but I think I'm going to be quit tired for the drive down on Friday.

It's crazy humid at the moment. Really suffered on my ride yesterday, at the end of the one decent climb we did I looked like I was just out of the pool.

Hope everyone's doing well... I may not be posting as much as some of you, but I'm lurking/reading it all. Learning plenty already.

Ok -- there's a technical reason but if I try to explain it I'm going to mess it up -- I'm going to ask Shaun to explain the trainer issue.

Also -- as a random side note make sure your tires are pumped as well -- it can effect how the resitance feels on the trainer.
