Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread It can be. Bring them (gloves). Be prepared for COLD. In 2006 it was 31 on the beach at the swim start. Throw away gloves throw away shirts. By the same token it can get COLD when the sun goes down so those of you who will be out there late on the run course with me put something long sleeved in your run SN bag. Also RE the other questions there is a good italian place called Sweet Basils just up front beach road...its actually on the bike course and not far from transition. There is a great pizza place the other direction Mellow Mushroom a favorite with racers no secret parking places and lots of towing going on. Park at Walmart and shuttle over. |

Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Originally posted by aintaround Originally posted by kenj Yeah it's tough and the things even stick to your slippas`(hawaiian for flip-flops) and if you don't brush them off they get throughout the RV, we keep a pair of gloves by the door to brush them off. If you stick to the roads inside the the park and cross the street there is a beach access sand strip where we walk our pups (it's kind of fenced so we can take them off leash but keep them close). it works and the stickers are not a show stopper just a pain. Originally posted by aintaround Originally posted by kenj This is right at the turn around near the finish. The only issue is the stickers in the grass around there - never go bare foot and if you have dogs going with you they will not be happy campers. http://goo.gl/maps/vQGztOriginally posted by aintaround Originally posted by Jorgito22 for all you Florida vets, here are some questions: what are some good italian places to eat at around the area? Is there a secret parking area close to transition I can park at on race day? - at Arizona there was a garage near transition which was perfect and easy walk to transtion. just curious. Im staying about 10 minutes away from the host hotel. Ok- then. I have an RV and drive up to PCB (4 times and counting) and stay at Campers Inn directly across from Club La Vela at the turn to the turn around or finish line. Now if I ever get rid of the RV I will start renting a tent site for at least for the day of the race (I'm too old (spoiled?) for tent camping but for the parking spot). it's about 22 bucks and is a secure parking spot. Every year I see Iron folks set up tents to stay and operate out of (some have tents for the bikes so they may sell out of spaces early, I rent next years spot when I show up every year. We are driving our RV down from NY and staying there. I was hoping it was close to the run turn around, it looked like it was on the map but I don't remember it from 2010. I also have a condo at Laketown for the in laws coming up from Winter Haven. Thats not good, the reason we stay in the RV is to bring the dog along. Thanks for the heads up, is it through out the entire park? THose stickers are a BUGGER!!!! I got one in my shoe the first year I did IMFL and couldnot figure out why my foot hurt so much!!! Stupid prickley burr in my shoe!!! AARRRGGHHHH |

Veteran 220 Plant City, Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Originally posted by Jorgito22 ok vets with the weather changing I went for a ride on Saturday and it was about 59 degrees, so i wore gloves on the ride, so it got me wondering if I would need gloves for Florida. At Arizona I did wear gloves on the bike for the first 30 minutes...thoughts? Is it real cold after you get out of the water? I put a pair of throw away gloves and cheap light jacket in my T1 bag and if i decide to use 'em for the first few miles of the bike and toss 'em usually at the first water stop. the wall-mart there in PCB is my source for these (I stock up for other races i do in January). |

Veteran 220 Plant City, Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Short story then back to IMFL – I hope this does not come off wrong or sound like I showing off. I found out in April I was selected to participate in Kona with a Legacy Slot. Trust me on this when I say I’m not an emotional guy, I’m not. This news however hit hard (in a very good way). I almost pulled out of doing IM Coeur d'Alene but went ahead and completed it (it’s an awesome venue). Now I’m less than 3 weeks from heading over to the Big Island and it’s really hitting me in the gut. I don’t mind typically that I’m the only person in my area that is a Triathlete (I hang around with folks that are into horse type competitions). Just with these people they don’t “get it” and they don't understand what “Kona” means. So I start my taper in about 16 days (short taper) and go to this with a honest “I’ll be happy with a finish in under 17” attitude considering anything more than 17 would be a DNF but that’s not an option. Sorry about this if it comes off wrong - i'm just kind of bursting at the seams See you guys at IMFL. |

Had to take a few days off, and now its time to get back on the horse. I guess nothing beats you up like training for an Ironman!! Looking forward to the taper. Carl.. |

I could not be happier for you!! This is the time of year when we are all deep into the thick of things and its all consuming. It is hard to be around people who totally don't get it and look at you like you have 3 heads when you tell them about your training and race. |

New user 23 Sugar Land, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hi Everyone, Got a quick bike gear question to run past you all. I train solo so don't really have a group to bounce off ideas. After originally hoping that I'd be able to acquire some race wheels, nothing to extravagant but better than the stock wheels on my 2011 Cervelo P2, seems like I won't have the funds to make this happen. In light of this, I just to to get some new tires and tubes. I'm looking at these items, so wondering if anyone has input or insights that could help me with my purchase. Thanks. Continental Gatorskin 700x23 Continental tube 42mm presta The stock tire, which is Vittoria Robino Pro Slick 150tpi, has served me well, so I could actually get another pair of the same. Whatever input you all have would be appreciated. I don't know much about benefits of this, that, or the other, in terms of brands. When it comes to wheel sets such as 404/808/etc, I know that there is a measurable benefit in time, but also a more difficult to measure benefit in terms of effort, acceleration, and maintaining speed, correct? At least this is what I've seen. Right then, thanks in advanced. Loren |

Expert 1130 Fernandina Beach, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Gatorskin tires are going to be reliable but REALLY slow. I use Conti Grand Prix 4000s really only because I've heard good things. They're all I've used so can't really compare. Also if you're looking for speed, latex tubes will be the lightest/fastest. I've never used them because I'm a big guy and don't want to risk flatting in them, but here/see people recommend them all the time. Also worth checking out racewheelrental.com if you really want race wheels for IMFL. They've got rental sets of 808's with tires and tubes for less than $200 |

New user 23 Sugar Land, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hey, thanks much rjrankin83. I looked up the Grand Prix 4000s and nothing but positive reviews on a fast, well-handling tire. Unless I find a brief case full of money, I'm sold on those for IM FL...unless racewheelrental.com convinces me otherwise. Thanks again!! |

Member 40 Rochester | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Originally posted by salasman Gatorskins are pretty much bomb proof. Unless you pick up a huge nail and hit a really big rock for a pinch flat, they won't puncture. I ride them for training and and the set I have on now I've used for a year and have only had two flats on them, both pinch flats from hitting big rocks. They are probably the heaviest, slowest tire you can put on though. If you don't care about speed, they are a safe bet to get you through with no issues. Continental makes a ton of good tires. The Attack/Force combo is a great new option and the Grand Prix 4000s are quite fast as well. I rode the Attack/Force tubulars early this year and they were really nice. I would assume the clincher version is equally nice. Vittoria makes some of the fastest tires available. Maybe check out the Open Corsa CX. They'll be faster than your Robinos. They wear a bit quicker, but if it's just for race day they'll be fine. Ebay has sets of them at really reasonable prices. Latex tubes are lighter and a bit faster. They save maybe 4-5 watts if you have them in both tires. They are a bit more puncture prone though. Good luck. Hi Everyone, Got a quick bike gear question to run past you all. Veteran 193 Havertown, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hey Loren - I've been using the Conti GP 4000s for a couple years and I love them. easy to change, fast, and generally good against flats unless you let them wear down too much (as I have done - trying to squeeze out extra miles). And FYI I just got a email yesterday that probikekit has a sale on them for $36 each with free shipping and no tax. they come from the UK, so they take a little longer, but it's a good price: http://www.probikekit.co.uk/bicycle-tyres/continental-grand-prix-40... I weigh about 220lbs and I use latex tubes, too (when I can afford them...geeze!). For my first IM I rented some Zipp 808s from racedaywheels and it worked out really well and I felt like it was worth it. I'm on a 2009 P2. Good luck. greg |

Member 40 Rochester | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread It will depend primarily on which wheels you are running them on. I run a wider tire on my Super 9 because it has such a wide rim. Plus it makes the ride a little softer. I put a 23mm up front. |
